Spotted at Marshalls, TJ Maxx, Ross, etc. Vol. 3 - Page 8

Salvatore Ferragamo Pour Homme in the 50 ml size at Marshall's. It's going for $14.99.
TJ Maxx cuts deals with manufacturers and distributors to capture overstock, overproduction and deal with leftovers called back because of label changes, etc. Let's say a major retail chain discontinues the Jaguar line. A lot of contracts don't allow for clearance pricing in the standard retail chain so the word from corporate office tells stores to pull stock, box it up, and ship it back for credit. These can end up in the liquidator/overstock outlets, both online and brick and mortar. The rest comes from oversupply conditions in warehouses, or even a willingness by a manufacturer to steady supply chains like TJ Maxx with product. I have also seen retailers pull stock because of reformulations, packaging changes, or promotions (get an extra 30% free in this package).

Bang!, for example, has been supplied to TJMaxx in two distinctly different looking packages. That suggests their stock is a mix of oversupply and old style packaging yanked off shelves in retail/mall locations.
While neither store is exactly brimming with great scents, TJ Maxx has double the stock of my Marshall's right now. It's as if Marshall's has made the decision to stop stocking new cologne.
I've stated this already but I'll say it again just because I am so shocked that people here actually have Marshalls/ TJ Maxx's in their area that actually stock good stuff. I have three Marshalls' that I go to and one TJ Maxx and they literally never have anything remotely good in stock. One time a Marshalls had Drakkar Noir and Burberry Weekend, two horrible scents in my opinion, but at least they are name brands.
Stopped by TJ's for a quick glance; found myself a 1.7oz bottle of United Colors of Benetton Energy Man for a mere $10. It verges on the cloying side with its sweetness (avoid if you're sensitive to sweet-fruity fragrances), but the woody citrus aroma seems to save it from absolute failure. I've only worn it a few times but it smells good, lasts well and projects noticeably from my hand.

And...it features a pineapple note!! Smells like a keeper for the spring/summer.
Marshalls and Ross near me have been pretty worthless for a week or two. Seems like they're swimming in Curve Crush, Burberry Weekend, and Tommy Bahama. Things were more interesting just after the new year began.
Nice new well organized fragrance section in my local TJMaxx.

Acquisition disorder kicking in...must...resist!
My TJ's frag section is a wreck-it's never recovered from the holiday season.

Last year it was pretty good-but it seems like they've just decided to stop sending decent frags to this store.

Set Sail St Barts is the only one I've bought there since December
post #429 of 1082
I've been hitting the same Marshalls and Ross every other day or so looking for summer shirts and cheap frags. Their inventory for a month or more has been:

Adidas Whateveritis
Giorgio for men
Azzaro Chrome
Tommy Bahama
Tommy Bahama St Barts
Benetton
Nautica (type varies but is never Voyage)
CK Escape

plus some no-way stuff like Beverly Hills Polo Club deodorant.

Some of their boxes have been there for months. It's interesting to see what moves instantly upon hitting the shelf. I've see limited stock of Bang!, Drakar Noir, and Gray Flannel. They're snapped up pretty quick.

It always bums me out to see the half destroyed boxes and empty gift sets where shoppers have stolen the goods. There's way too much of that in my neck of the woods.
I was at TJ Maxx yesterday and saw a new edition there. Lagerfeld Kapsule Light, which was something I wouldn't expect to see there. With a very low price too of 14.99. I was considering blind buying it, but as I recalled, the reviews were iffy on it. The only thing that has me interested is that it's a Mark Buxton creation, which alone pays for itself imo.
Great summer deal at Ross. I was just there and noticed they've lowered the price on the always present Tommy Bahama scents. They've got 100ml bottles of Set Sail St. Bart's for only $14.99 now! Anyone looking for a cheap vacation/beach scent for the summer should grab one. It's always a great deal at $20, but for $14, it's a no brainer. Also, they had the equally good, woody, Tommy Bahama Original for the same price. Both of these are excellent for the price.

God damn. That's a great price. Cheapest I can find Set Sail in the UK is £27 ($42).

Wow. Good deals. Bart's is definitely worth $15. I got it for $20 a month ago at Marshalls.

I just bought a 50ml bottle of Rochas Men marked down from $19.99 to $14.99 at Marshall's.

What location? My local Perfumania doesn't carry Antidote nor A*men over 1.7 oz. What is metal flask cost after discount?

At Christmas time the Perfumania near me had the 100 ml A*Men metal flask for $40. I almost bought one but I already have a 99% full bottle that will last me forever.

I saw the Bang you're talking about, but I don't think it's the EDT spray, I think it may be an aftershave or some sort of lotion. The Bang they have that says EDT spray, is 39.99; while the other one you're talking about just says nothing on the box.. no info or anything. My Marshall's now has the boxes in cases so they can't be opened or stolen, so I can't open it and say for sure what it is, but I strongly doubt it's the actual fragrance.
At my local Winners, theyve finally begun to restock, they have burberry brit, london, ferrari crap, ck fragrances etc...and guerlain vetiver 1.7 ounce for 39.99. Never tried it but I'm tempted to buy it? Is that a good price and is guerlain vetiver any good?

A marshalls is opening in my area soon so will be interested to see what they have.

On the occasional business trip the the US, I got this week at tjmaxx & ross in gulfport/ms

Bang, 1.7oz $20
Midnight in Paris 2.5oz $27 (markdown)
Deseo gift set 3.4oz $25
tommy bahamas set (orig., south sea, set sails), 3*0,5oz $18
ungaro apparition wild orange 1.5oz $20
Prada Infusion de Vetiver, 3.4oz 35$ (markdown)
Ed Hardy Born Wild 1.7oz $20 (not even out yet in europe)
Hummer 1.7oz $10

I then returned to berlin/germany and found there yesterday in two tj/tk maxx stores

Ungaro III 3.4oz 25EUR
police cosmopolitan 1,7oz 15EUR
Desir de Rochas 1,7oz 20EUR
Mandarina Duck homme 3.4oz 20EUR
creed royal water 4,2oz 60EUR
lanvin oxygene 3.4oz 15EUR
Wolfgang Joop 1.7oz 15EUR
paul smith extreme 3.4oz 20EUR

Desir ist the only one I got though in berlin. IMO, the US clearly had once again the more interesting offers.

At Ross, yes. As I didn't unwrap it yet, take a look yourself along with the Ross price sticker:

Also yesterday in Ross's I saw Calvin Klein's Obsession Night for Men. I've never seen this flanker at any of the discounters before. I've kinda been wanting to try it, but it was $39.99, and that was a bit much for a blind buy (although it was a 125ml bottle, so I guess it is a decent deal).

I bought and enjoy OG Penguin from my TJ Maxx for $25. I would have bought 2 of they had more
post #450 of 1082
If I ever saw MIP at my Marshalls or TJ Maxx I would snatch that up upon sight. And same for Prada's IdV, I respect Prada enough to make a blindbuy.

Nope, it was the Bang EDT- I checked to make sure. 100ml for $22.

Several more of the exact same product were priced at $39.99 in the same store

I have noticed this differential pricing at TJ Maxx before-which is why i always check the price tags on all the boxes of any frag i'm interested in.

I don't like Bang so i didn't buy it. but I did buy Nautica Voyage 100ml for $20 at Ross.

It's a good scent for the money
At the Marshall's in Mechanicsburg PA alongside the usual Burberry, Adidas, Halston, etc.

2 Guerlain Shalimar EdC 75mL for $30 a piece
Azzaro PH 50mL for $20
Guerlain Champs Elysees didn't check price.
Champs Elysees is one of Guerlain's little disasters. GTM Stores (gtmstores.com) has the 1oz for sale online at $21.59. That is a great price on the Shalimar which normally runs $45. Was it red-tagged?

Azzaro is everywhere. OG Penguin seemed to turn up at one local Marshalls a few months ago but nowhere else locally and most Prada scents don't seem to move at either discounter because even at a cut price, we're talking $80+ for many of them. Too rich for the average shopper's blood.
Ya, the Shalimar was red-tagged.

Up here in Rochester, NY it never stays on the shelf long enough to be tossed into clearance.

Baldessarini Del Mar for 10$ @ the new Ross's here. Bought it just for the hellofit and was actually quite impressed.

Is TJ Maxx and Marshalls the same as Winners in Canada?

I see they opened up 3 new stores on Canada, the actual Marshalls that is,

And too bad it wasn't Marshalls that had Creed 4.0oz for $42 it was the untouchable Walgreens

Picked up a 3.4oz bottle of:

Colors for Men, by Benetton at TJ Maxx for $12.99

Smells really good, and seems like it will turn out to be a good
blind buy.
TJ Maxx on Broad St. & Wall St. has the following in the mens section: Harajuku Fragrance for Lovers ($9.99), Dunhill ($29.99), Dunhill Desire, Burberry Brit, ck be, Usher, Michael Jordan, Alfred Sung, Passion Somethingerother, tiny Obsession for Men bottles...that's all I can remember.

I am working on an online solution to the stock/pricing of fragrances at TJ Maxx/Marshalls. Unfortunately, nobody except perhaps the stores themselves can track merchandise in-store, but we can track more generally the kinds of frags you are likely to encounter and at what price. I hope to have this launched within the next several days and will update folks when it is up and running.

Curious as to how this'll turn out! Excited for a look!

Just picked up Yardley Citrus & Wood at TJ Maxx, after reading the reviews I think I just might go back and get another given that a 50 ml is only $7.99. They also just got in a good supply of Nautica Voyage going for $19.99 for 100 ml, bought 100 ml Set Sail St. Barts for $19.99 last week. Also saw Bijan Black for Men today going for $14.99 for the 100 ml bottle.

Edit: Gave the Citrus & Wood a proper wearing tonight. Will be returning the back up bottle I went back for. Three hours in and I'm still getting Lemon Pledge.

Last week I picked up a 75 ml bottle of Shalimar EdC for $36.00 at TJ Maxx. All the rest of the bottles were marked $44.99 but I've learned to look at all the bottles because this is the second fragrance I've found with a red tag while the other bottles were regular price. First one was Halston 1-12 for $8 instead of $9.99. They've had a good supply of 100 ml Voyage for $19.99 lately. if it's there next time I go I'll probably buy a bottle.
stopped in yesterday at TJ Maxx to buy some shirts and scoped out the fragrance selections. Nothing terribly new since my last visit a few weeks back.

TJ Maxx - 100ml Versace The Dreamer $34.99. I bought it.

Picked up a 50 ml bottle of Giorgio Beverly Hills for Men for $12.99 at TJ Maxx, I have a few bottles of the vintage stuff I stocked a few years ago when it was discontinued the first time but i had been curious about a comparison. It seems to me that the top notes are obviously a little more prominent with the new bottle and the fragrance as a whole seems to be just a bit lighter and less mossy in the dry down. Overall it is a very good reformulation, something I hadn't really expected. I also picked up a 1 oz bottle of Mustang last week after reading some good things about it. Biggest surprise at TJ Maxx was that they had removed all the Shalimar and Dunhill that had been there. Two weeks previous there were 4 bottles of Shalimar left when I bought mine and they had several bottles of different Dunhill frags. No way they sold them all that fast.
