I just 5 starred Zino Davidoff!

It took me a while to decide what fragrance I was going to wear today, so I ended up reaching for something I don't wear all that often--- Zino Davidoff.

What a hell of a great fragrance! I'll go so far as to say I just might prefer Zino's patchouli over Borneo 1834's. I'm getting a solid 8 hours + for longevity as well.

I give it a solid 5/5.

it deserves it !
they don't make them like this to often anymore ....

Funny how this house shifted from producing something like Zino to Cool Water....
In retrospect, I think Cool Water is just fine. I can imagine that CW was just radical when it came out in 1988. I didn't start wearing it until the mid-90s. Maybe that will be the SOTD tomorrow.

You make me get my 125ml bottle of Zino and wear it today. Zino smells so great
post #5 of 41
It doesn't surprise me. It's a keeper.
Zino is a gem and a 5/5 always, sadly it's supposedly discontinued, but what puzzles me is that Armani Attitude is strikingly similar to Zino despite the major differences in the note pyramid.
I think best part of Zino is ending! It's very Rouge/Citrus in opening and drying down! that i don't like it.
If it had more intensity in oriental part, It could be one of my bests. I think i gave it 3/5

o'rly?

attitude is one of my favs, never tried zino.

Zino is absolutely a 5-star frag in my book. Shame it's been discontinued. I picked up a couple backups for the future.

Indeed, in fact couple of months ago a friend of mine who owns attitude asked me if I was wearing it at the moment whilst I was in fact wearing Zino

I've noticed the similarity couple of months before that anecdote.

It's a fantastic fragrance - most worthy of 5 stars.

When I write reviews, I always use a ten-point rating system. I use it because there are a small number of fragrances, like Zino, that deserve a full 10 out of 10 rating. It is a magical fragrance.

I might have to start stockpiling....
hah! I had the exact same thought when I saw the thread.
more than 250ml seems excessive though.
talking about Zino - I´ve heard its production is ending, (don´t know if its really true) so get as much as you can
post #18 of 41
Zino has moved into my number one spot overall. The floral/patchouli/vanilla combo is amazing and erotic. It's a much more sensual take on Heritage, for me. Besides stocking up, I'm desperately trying to find a replacement for it.
Zino tends to break-down a bit in its dry down. I like it a lot, but there is a definite rasp in the dry down that I don't like. I think that Heritage has a much smoother development. Zino is very nice though.
Zino is awesome and when I tested it I immediately wanted a bottle. Upon reflection I realized that whenever I'd wear Zino I'd rather wear Ungaro II, and thus never did pick up a bottle of Zino. Still, I give it an extremely high rating - not quite 5 out of 5, but let's say... 93% out of 100.
For all those Zino lovers (and haters) out there I just had to get this post back up!

One of the most beautiful compositions- Dark honeyed roses. Feel the love Zino, feel the love.
Zino rules! It's dark but also strangely cold scent, yet there's something erotic about it. Gentle application makes wonders!
And in my opinion, you are right

Zino Davidoff is such a rich and complex powerhouse scent, which stands out timelessly and effortlessly
post #24 of 41
saw a 100ml of this for around $30. hmm.. maybe i should go back for it. why does it get compared to guerlain heritage though? is it guerlain in style?
Could be the best wood scent I've ever tried.

What sort of death match could we have......

Zino VS. ______
I think we should ask the Cologneist that question!
I can understand both the love and hate for this one. If you are used to certain kinds of frags and have found a comfort zone, this one may be off-the-charts bad. However, if you are looking for something really dynamic, with no flaws, then this is one to sample, for sure.

What sort of death match could we have......

Zino VS. Salvador Dali Pour Homme.

I also just changed my rating for Zino from 3 stars to 5 stars. It started last week when I passed some guy that smelled with something that I thought might be Zino and it smelled fantastic on him. Today I decided to wear it myself (its 10 degrees celsium). Now 7 hours later I can still smell Zino lingering about my neck. It is very very unique and complex. Masculine, kinda erotic and warm. Atleast some maturity to pull it off is required.

Is there much of a difference between blocked letter DAVIDOFF vs script one?

I now own Zino. It stands its own amongst Ungaro II. I love it!
I definitely get the connection with Ungaro II. Zino has just a percentage of Ungaro's civet, but they're in the same general zone.

In fact, the civet and florals give a certain bathroomy impression. I'm surprised there aren't more haters of Zino. I think of it as a stinker . . . don't get me wrong, I dig the stuff. A couple spritzes are a great way to unwind after a tough day.

mrclmind, the issue you have with the drydown may be a result of reformulation. I've only tried the vintage.
Yes, 5 hrs of longevity on my skin is the difference while the smell is the same!
New formulation is extremely heavy on top notes for half an hour, then goes on milder for 2.5 hrs and is gone after that! Script one lasts for ages!
That's why I prefer Heritage edt and even more the edp!

One of my best impulse buys ever. The first couple of minutes is rough, not bad just strong. I think i have the vintage. "Davidoff" on the bottle in script equals vintage?
Yes, same with Cool Water, only with CW you have two reformulations, but if you have one with script it's almost sure you have first reformulation which is still pretty good, compared to the newest CW mess that's in the store with Davidoff in block font as of 2008! I don't know when they the changed font and juice for Zino but thought also 2008.

Never liked this one. Out of the bottle it left something to be desired, and not only sillage/longevity. I gave it to a female friend who liked the smell on a card but was constantly underwhelmed when her then-toyboy wore it.
