Givenchy Vetiver / Vetyver

I've done some research w/o success so I wanted to throw a question out looking for help.
Does anyone know if there is a difference between - what I term - 'traditional' Givenchy Vetiver and Givenchy Vetiver MYTHICAL ? I'm wondering if the mythical version is a reformulation or what.

I don't think it is, SoGent, but I might be wrong. I think that what we've called Givenchy Vetyver here over the last couple of years is the same thing as the mythical you mention. At least when I've said Givenchy Vetyver, I've meant the thing that has come in the tall vertical bottle and released a few years ago with several of the house's scents in similar bottles.

So I think they're the same. However, and this is a big however, this new-rerelease of Vetyver has a Givenchy Vetyver that came before it, sometime in the sixties or seventies, and until the recent rerelease was discontinued. If you mean that as the Givenchy Vetyver, and the rerelease as the mytical, then I can't say if they're alike because I've never smelled the old, discontinued, and possibly duplicated one. So I can't say if the new is at all like the 30-plus year old, but I would suspect that the recent rerelease is some reformulation. Can't testify for sure to that effect, but the others in the mythical release seem spot on to what they're labeled.

But I can say that there aren't two Givenchy Vetyvers in current release, one called Vetyver and the other with the name Mythical added to it.

The original Givenchy Vetyver is similar but more natural, round, smoky than the reformulation, with less of the faint detergent quality common in today's fragrances, including the reformulation, which is still very good.

Accurately put.

I've not had the opportunity to try the original, but the Mythical version is quite fantastic - probably my favorite vetiver fragrance.

A lot smokier IMO.

I have a sample of what The Perfumed Court calls the Reissue (same as Monsieur de Givenchy Reissue) and both of these are pretty good. I'm assuming this means the Mythical line, re-released a few years ago.

I´ve just bought a bottle of the vintage Givenchy Vetiver. It´s really fantastic!!!!!....reminds me a lot of the vintage Guerlain Vetiver. They are very close.

I've only smelled (and own) the current release and it does, indeed, remind me a great deal of the vintage Guerlain Vetiver edc. Really good stuff!

After you have acquired these you must try Vetiver Hombre from Aldolfo Dominguez. It´s one of the most beautiful vetivers. Easy to find online, (and cheap !).

Thanks Dave .... I will certainly test it out. I had quite a bit of trouble 'getting' vetiver & have a decent sized decant of Fat Electrician on the way before nailing down the examples to fill the need. After getting rid of the Guerlain, it looks like I'm headed toward using Jo Malone's plain vetiver + black vetiver cafe, Sycomore, Dior & the 2 versions of Givenchy with Encre Noir holding down the bottom of the list - for NOW. Good luck to you with the soap venture btw.
