JAR Jardenia - Breathtaking

Thanks to my friend Anthony (nthny), I was recently able to sample JAR Jardenia.

OMG! This is an absolutely stunning and beautiful fragrance and the most realistic interpretation of a gardenia I have ever smelled - including the "blue cheese note". It is breathtaking.

I know it is insanely expensive, but I would love to have this in my collection someday.

For those who have sampled it, what are your thoughts on it?

We spent a half hour or so at the JAR boutique in NY last summer; here is what I wrote in my blog afterward, while my thoughts were still fresh:

"Jardenia-- The slight blue cheese note at the start, followed later by a freshly-cut mushroom note, made this an earthy and realistic (while not overly sweet) gardenia. I am not sure I could wear this, but I loved smelling it and kept going back to that bit of skin to whiff all evening. Original and compelling, Jardenia was one of the very best things I smelled all day. "

I have to add, though, that all of the JAR perfumes I tried on skin were mostly gone after about 4 hours, which I found unsatisfactory.

Hmmm. I applied a small bit of Jardenia in the early afternoon, and could still smell it strong into the evening.

Are you in air conditioning? This was summer in NYC...maybe the heat made it depart faster.

I'm glad you are liking it! If you don't want to purchase the bottle, a full mL from TPC will probably last you a year I'd bet Joe and I probably tested twenty different fragrances the other day and on top of the cloud of awesome scents, Jardenia hung in the air above the rest of them practically the entire time. I just found this thread as well...

This is firmly on my to-try list, as l am a total gardenia freak! 30 Roses, your description makes it sound similar to Tom Ford's Velvet Gardenia. Would you say they are similar? Anyone else had a chance to try both?

I have not tried this, but I tried Shadow. It was also very surreal, maybe even a bit bizarre. I'd love to explore the line further, but they are all so expensive.

I don't recall having tried Velvet Gardenia, although I did have a sniff of all the Tom Fords that were there when we were at Neiman Marcus last summer.

I'd have to say no other gardenia I remember has that blue cheese/mushroom note of realism.

This scent is blowing my mind. I am laughing and sniffing and laughing and sniffing. The floral is so real. And so is the cheese. And somehow it works really well.

Velvet Gardenia does actually have the blue cheese note. It's much more subdued, but it's there. Jardenia on the other hand takes no prisoners, and I love it for that. It's exactly why I got into this ridiculous hobby.

None of the JARs have good longevity. They are not constructed like commercial perfumes. They tell their story, and they disappear. I don't know if it's by design or merely a side effect of using natural ingredients.

Congratulations J! You finally got your nose on this one....you've wanted to sniff it for a long time now. =) The only juice in your wishlist.

l've got a sample of this on it's way to me as l type; can't wait to try this one!

I am using my sample of this very sparingly. I think I prefer the Tom Ford because it's not so crazy strong, but ever so often I want to be floored by a huge white floral, and it's those times that I reach for my tiny plastic atomizer of Jardenia.

Resurrecting this thread because I am staying for the holidays at my parents place. The gardenias are all in bloom. Now that I pay more attention to them, I must say that the smell of real gardenias is even stronger and dirtier than Jardenia. The mushroom note is there, together with some green, some sweet, something I would call acidic, though it is not the right word, and more. Indeed, I would say that real gardenias smell like Jardenia with some touch of Ferme tes yeux added. Which suggests an experiment for when I get back to the US.
