what is a fragrance that a guy 18-mid 20's would have absolutely NO objections to wearing, but it also doesnt fall into the category that usual people in that age group wear that are gourmand or aquatic, but just masculine, manly, and smells attractive.

thanks basenoters

It's not that masculine IMO, but it's good stuff, would suit younger guys better, and is safe as can be.

Bang (although may be too popular, not sure)

Jacomo for Men was first introduced in 2007 as an oriental woody fragrance. Creator, Mathilde Bijaoui, offered top notes of flauntingly fresh and sweet pineapple and citruses, featuring sharp notes of black pepper. The heart is also spiced and sharp, wrapped in accords of pimento, coffee, plum and nutmeg. The base consists of Tonka bean, amber and vetiver. This powerful masculine and, above all, highly exotic and spiced scent is available as 50 and 100 ml edt.

Here's another

I agree - smells modern but very different, and oozes masculinity. Tom Ford Extreme, too, for a bit more modern and just a tad less masculine.

It may help if you define "masculine" or "manly". These definitions have an immense amount of variation.

if mentioned frags are considered appropriate for young people, I would also like to add
Cartier Declaration, Essence and Bois Bleu
post #13 of 46
I would say Polo Double Black is all of those things.
Magnetism is modern with that metallic/cola at the start and then the dry down is masculine and quite sexy. Great for going out.
+1 on 2Man. Fits the bill. Johnny, based on your professed admiration of Gucci PH I, I think you'd dig this. I find them to have a similar vibe, but 2Man certainly feels more modern, more unique.

On the mainstream side of things, I think Givenchy Play fits the bill. Starts of sweet and citric, then dries down to a slightly sweet woody smell. A little generic, perhaps, but fits the 18-20 anyone can wear it, not particularly gourmand, not aquatic. Less weird than 2Man...
yeah 2Man, and many other fragrances of CdG in general. It's really hard though to find a modern young generally pleasant modern fragrance that is not fresh or gourmand.

Would you wear something like Frederic Malle Iris Poudre?

Lady at Nordstroms told me Bang was a top seller and she also gave it to every guy she knows as a Christmas Present.

Though I've personally never noticed before when I've been out.

+1 CdG 2 Man

Another one that is overlooked but is sexy, suave, modern and yet (unlike most modern scents) distinctly masculine is Michael Storer's Djin. It's smooth and dark and yet has hints of that 'fresh sweat' smell that women typically love. I mostly get grapefruit, cardamom, and a deep rose note bolstered with some natural galbanum, all over a very smooth and sexy human-like musk.

Not only is it a great scent, but it's at a great price. It's only like $75 for a bottle.

Having owned the two above, i find Dirty English the most interesting take on the theme.

Tom Ford Grey Vetiver and Odin Nomad. Two different takes of masculanity, both are very manly and they have a really modern vibe.

Modern, Masculine, & Unique - Your friends won't be wearing this one.

Sartorial
Eau de Toilette
by Penhaligons

The Scoop
After offering the masterfully sensuous Amaranthine last year to the ladies, Penhaligons, as befits a traditional English house, has turned its attention to gentlemen. As an inspiration for Sartorial, Bertrand Duchaufour launched into an olfactory exploration of the Savile Row bespoke tailor Norton & Sons workshop. The odorant threads hes teased out compose a radically new vision of the most traditional masculine fragrance family, the fougère. Lavender acts as a reference both to the fougère and to a typically English scent. Boosted by aldehydes and ozonic materials, it conjures the steam rising from hot irons on tweeds fear not, there isnt the least hint of the aquatic in the blend --, the scissors and sewing machines. The dusty leather of club chairs and mounted hunting trophies springs from the combination of black pepper, gurjum wood, oakmoss and a leather accord. Patchouli and cedar rubbed in beeswax and honey soften the hard edges of the leather and metallic effects and smoothly wrap the blend, just as the waxed floors and cupboards bathe the tailors shop in a warm, fatty-animalic glow. Duchaufour aficionados may recognize a trace of that signature green pepper note hes dropped into many of his compositions.

As the quintessential English dandy and couturier to the Queen Hardy Amies once said: A man should look as if he bought his clothes with intelligence, put them on with care, then forgot about them. Thats Sartorial: tough and smooth, playful and elegant, impeccably tailored and as easy to wear as a bespoke suit.

Sartorial Notes
Aldehydes, ozonic effect, metallic effect, violet leaf, neroli, cardamom, black pepper, fresh ginger, beeswax, cyclamen, linden blossom, lavender, leather, gurjum wood, patchouli, myrrh, cedar wood, tonka bean, oakmoss, white musk, honey effect, old wood effect, vanilla, amber

Sorry Jonny my bad, Iris Poudre is not masculine.

Terre d'Hermes and grey vetiver are fantastic suggestions. Though Grey Vetiver is unisex imo.

Pure Havane
The One for Men
GPH II (previously mentioned)
Baldessarini
The Dreamer
Michael for Men
A few of the Varvatos scents

the one has terrible longevity, theres tobacco in gph 2? and the dreamer is very unisex, though still very good.
