My thought behind this one as I've seen these two compared a LOT, including a thread, but I did not see a vote on it. Just curious what basenoters think...

It all depends... how do you like your cocoa? Dry and powdery or wet and spicy? Both are sweet...

L'Instant de Guerlain Extreme
I like both but prefer L'Instant Extreme, since it's more masculine and its cocoa-tonka bean dry down is just heavenly that when I get whiffs of it, I stop whatever I'm doing and tell myself, "Mmmmm... Someone smells goooood... Oh, wait that's me."

Dior Homme Intense is the far superior fragrance.

Dior Homme Intense

Hmmm, I'm looking forward to the outcome of this poll. I'm very interested in both these fragrances and I'll definitely be picking up one or the other for the fall/winter.

I love DH intense, though it's surprisingly unintense with the sillage and longevity for me. However, I just bought a L'instant X decant, so we'll see how that compares.

I strongly dissagree. DHI is boring as hell compared to L'Instant Extreme, IMO.

My vote for the missing option both !

Good point. I guess I was trying to war the two. However, I got my LIDGE decant in three days ago, and have been wearing it since, just bought a bottle...so both should have been an option

Both are amazing!!

Just look at my display pic <----------

DHI hands down.
I can't wait to try these, even as much as I disliked Dior Homme.

I have recently just purchased L'Instant de Guerlain Extreme and its fantastic it really takes you on a fragrance journey. It opens with a warm freshness with citrus and coco then you get the florals with the coco. After a few hours you notice the woods with the heavenly coco then the dry downdown is yes you have guessed it a divine powdery coco.lol (how many times have I mentioned coco). Finally the basenotes are a sweet vanille musk which at this stage stays close to the skin.

I get 12 hours out of this fragrance and I love every minute of it and would pay double the price for this scent. It feels like a niche fragrance to me.

Cannot make a call here. Love 'em both but for different applications.

Would say for day wear I prefer L'IdGE but night wear DHI.

L'Instant Extreme
Both are good... hard to pick one over the other truthfully! I would say DHI for me right now, but Guerlain Extreme would be better for me when I am a bit older.

Dhi
DHI by a few thousand miles!!
DHI for me, though I like both, Homme Intense is my absolute favorite among these two.
Though I LOVE both very much, I prefer Dior Homme Intense A BIT more...
I like the Old dior homme intense, but the current version does not stand up to the current LIDGE.
I prefer L'Instant de Guerlain Extreme.

I have both of these and tend to wear DHI a little bit more the LIDGE. LIDGE is good, don't get me wrong there, but DHI is great. Both garner compliments, I just like the smell of DHI more.
Love them both but if I could only own it...DHI baby.

I don't understand the comparison between these two. They're completely different to me. Maybe the cocoa, but it's very sweet in DHI, and bitter in LIDGE. Completely different otherwise
post #30 of 58
I am not a fan of strong patchouli in fragrances so the obvious choice would be DHI.
That "cosmetic" "lipstick" essence you get from DHI is AWESOME. I smell it hugely in Shalimar parfum Initial too. I cannot get enough it. It makes about as much sense as saying that a drink can be really "dry". But in it's own way DHI is really DRY in the most spectacular way. MUCH LOVE...(Now only if I can find a bottle for a steal of a deal!!)
I've both but don't like DHI...
DHI by a mile and a half. DH revolutionized men's fragrances but LIDGE is just meh, remove the Guerlain name and you will pick Animale animale over it.
LIDGE has a great dry down. But DHI is good from beginning to end!
Love them both and choose the both!
I love both but LIDGE is all I want to wear right now so my obvious choice is Guerlain.
LIDGE for me by a long way. I've been trying to like DHI for a year now but just couldn't get past the make-up note. In fact i've just swapped it away and can definitely say I won't be re-purchasing.

But LIDGE isn't a strong patchouli fragrance
post #39 of 58
I've got 3 bottles of the vintage, that shows my love for DHI... ( for almost 90$ each xD )
Sexi wins this one....DHI that is
LIDGE for me. I thought I would love DHI, but didn't measure up to the hype. I would still like to try the vintage.

I've spent considerable time now with both LIDGE and DI thanks to the recommendation of many BNers on here. I have to say, I do love the drydown of LIDGE, but it feels somewhat one dimensional at times (even though it's a combination of notes) and it doesn't develop much from start to finish. Dior Homme Intense, on the other hand, is much more complex, layered, and keeps me interested all the way through. It also has just the right amount of chocolate without becoming gourmand.

If I had to choose between the two, I'd go with Dior Homme Intense in a heartbeat. In fact, I prefer it over the original Dior Homme (original formulation), which is one of my favorite fragrances of all time. It's that good!

Dior Homme Intense and Dior Homme are excellent compositions, but they have distinct traces of that note that fill up American malls. No dice.

I'd rather wear L'Instant pour Homme Extreme but I rarely do. Voted for it.

LIDGE

smelled both, to me, DHI, not even close. I don't like LIDGE one bit. It reminds me of this dark chocolate balls, it smells bitter. Not a lot of sweetness.

DHI is great, monster performance, huge compliment getter.

There is no doubt that vintage DHI smells damn good. However, LIDGE smells damn good and is so dynamic! On my skin the dry down is soooo different from the opening. If I did not own LIDGE and someone had the opening on one hand and the same fragrance 4 hours later on the other, I'd SWEAR they were two different fragrances. Just my 2 cents.

IF I had to narrow it down and only pick one, I would give a SLIGHT edge to DHI. I own both, and love both of them equally. In the fall and winter months, these are pretty much the only ones I rotate. Longevity is equal on both, and complimented on both as well. Character wise I would say DHI. Again, just a marginal amount.

Overall, DHI Intense but not by much at all. I am happy to wear both

DHI for me!

Yeah...right !!! rolleyes.gif

You can keep all the Animale Schmanimale production for yourself !!!

Thank you so much though...it's good to laugh grin.gif

I own and love both LIDGE & DHI ... as they are extremely different to my nose , I see no reason whatsoever to cut my pleasure in half by owning just ONE !!! smiley.gif

So definitely    B O T H   !!!

I must be oversmelling the powder in DHI or undersmelling everything else, but DHI smells overpoweringly powdery and feminine to me.  I know some people pick up a really strong powdery & feminine scent in DHI, but more people don't.  I haven't smelled LIDGE, but do have LIDG, and I'd pick that over DHI in a heartbeat.  I do wish I could smell in DHI what so many of you are smelling.

Dior Homme Intense for me...

the older formulation of DHI anyway...

I love Dior Homme EdT, but between these two EdPs it's gotta be the Guerlain, as it's just more interesting and dynamic. DHI is mostly the basenotes of DH as the main event, which isn't a bad thing necessarily, but a bit one-dimensional.
