Hello Basenoters,

Which one of these "patchoulis" will be more suited for a Cold Weather?

Serge Lutens Borneo 1834

Chanel Les Exclusiefs Coromandel

+1 Curious about the recommendations too.

IMHO I think they both work equally well. What I find interesting myself is that I am not tempted to reach for Borneo 1834 during the day. It's more a night affair to me... it makes me want to smoke a good cigarillo preferably by an open fire That's my image I have in mind. I could probably fall in love head over heels with Coromandel on somebody else, but it is not something I have fancied for myself since it is too sweet on me (currently).

I also find 1834 a little heavy for regular daytime use, even in the winter.

also consider trying Le Labo's Patchouli

Borneo is a jungle scent. Not because of it's name but because of the earthy cocoa and patchouli. I love coromandel too.
Buy the one you like more. Keep in mind that Borneo 1834 is a SL Aris exclusive perfume thats currently in export status and eventually the 50ml bottles will run out. So decide quickly.

Le Labo's Patchouli has no patchouli in it.

Try Reminiscence's Patchouli series.

Don't do that. Not at least because the Borneo is boring. Its more the chocolate plus sweet plus tons of Iso E Super to lubricate and silken the issues that are to be expected with such brews.

My patchoulis are
- Histoires De Parfumes: 1969
- L'Artisan: Patchouli Patch
- ELdO: Nombril Immense
- Etro: patchouli
- unknown: raw natural oil, extract

With that as a comparison the Borneo xxxx ain't a patchouli scent at all. As an other quite different take I would recommend the Patchouli Patch. The immortelle in it gives it a herbal flowerish shine of huge projection, yet no offenses to anybody due to its natural appeal. Simple but georgious.
A pretty well made Choco plus Patch could be the 1969 by HdP. In this the patch still bites camphorous without that gothic agony it is usually associated with ...

ps: don't like patch with cold weather, most because I don't like cold weather. For me patch is a summer scent. In cold weather I go for shiny flowers and full greens ...

Coromandel is much smoother and more polite and versatile -- still prefer Borneo though.
