Bergamotto Marino by Ferre - a wow-er

I obtained a hefty 6.5 oz bottle of this recently. I'd heard of it but never had a chance to sample. Yes, I bought 6.5 oz completely blind.

From the first spray, I knew I had a winner. This is modern and classic at the same time. It's a current-generation clan member in the gene pool of the great eau de colognes. Citrus, but not just citrus. The bergamot used here surpasses so many, proving that it can shine as a main player and not just a top note to lift off the rest of a formula. The salty marine note makes me swoon, especially the way it combines with the discreet florals. I detect a faint cistus/rockrose thread in there, along with the jasmine that has been commented upon in reviews. I think this is going to be an all-year-rounder for me, it definitely has enough presence to be attractive in cold weather as well as the more obvious appeal for summer.

I've been eying this one for a bit now. How long does the citrus in it last?

Also, does it have aquatic qualities, Eau de Cologne qualities, or is it on the soapy side?

The citrus in Bergamotto Marino resounds for a while - like a bell being struck and the echo going on and on. The marine note is not the typical blecch-y overly aquatic one. I've worn this about four times now and have noticed an enjoyably soapy/citrus quality to it - not harsh at all, just a very luxurious impression of cleanliness.

I have a 200ml bottle too. Love how it smells. It leans on the Acqua di Parma side, although not as refined. Longevity is good on me. I get about 6 hours from 5 sprays.

wtf? 5 sprays ? 2 for me max! its strong I mean STRONG!
for first 2-3 hours is everywhere with 3 sprays maaaaaan this is potent beast
I even cant spray my neck, i do chest and arms

I had a bottle and swapped it: I always regarded it as an eau de cologne with improved sillage and longevity, at odds at what a traditional eau de cologne was. I always wondered if BM's excellent longevity was due to the presence of an aquatic note; even if this caught my attention, I could set associations with a local drugstore scent called Natural, by Fulton... I enjoyed it, but not to such an extent as to keep it.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, I'm very close to pulling the trigger on a 200ml blind buy of this stuff. Anybody else have any insight? I've seen it be compared to mugler cologne?

Since the time I started this thread, Bergamotto Marino has been in regular rotation throughout the summer. The jasmine note that pops up right after the top burns off just amazes me. It's floral but not frilly. Clean but not antiseptic. I never regretted this affordable impulse.

Just got 200ml of this for £25. Loving it. It lasts a while for an EDC and to my nose, jasmine dominates. The marine note is quite far off in the background but if I concentrate I can detect it.

By far the biggest thing for me is the presentation. What a beautiful box & bottle.. minimalist, tasteful and high quality.

It is a beautiful presentation, isn't it? Although the bottle does "borrow" a bit from the F. Malle packaging. I do like how the overall impression is masculine but in a very subtle, confident way .......... which is the most attractive masculinity, after all.

I blindbought it last week and it surpassed my expectations! I'm usually not into that genre (I despise 4711 and wouldn't wear Colonia Assoluta) but this one is very enjoyable and lasts very well.

To those who have experienced BM and like it: My trigger finger is a-twitchin' on a blind buy of this... But I need to know: Is there any perceptible oakmoss note in the base that would take the overall scent in a more masculine direction rather than leaving it purely unisex?

Checking in as a fan, too. One could debate whether it leans towards m or f depending on your tastes and preferences.

I get all the listed notes, except the melon- more of a salty melon rind and the base is a warm- ambery- mossy.

I don't see how one could be taking a big risk with this one- it's still such a bargain.

I have it too. I got it cheap as can be. A refreshing salty citrus eau de cologne. Very uplifting, and great value too.

A review that I read on-line (not on this site, though) said that it resembles Diesel Fuel for Life (Men's version).

Didn't smell like FFL to me, not as fruity and sweet, it's more of a lemony cologne. For me they did share the characteristic of being slightly annoying when worn though. Wasn't for me, this one.
