Marc has said that he is to stop doing fragrance reviews on Youtube. For those of us that do enjoy that medium of reviewing, it's a very sad day.

Big probs to Marc for his reviews. Hope he lets them stay on the web. Plenty of great information for people just about to get' into fragrances

Hopefully MyMickers will keep going. He and Marc is equally great reviewers...

Oh my god, I can't believe it... Is he going to post a goodbye video? I noticed that he hadn't posted a new video in a while.

He said he probably would do a goodbye vid. Been getting a lot of threats apparently. Which is just damn ridiculous. The guy posts vids reviewing bottles of smelly liquids on Youtube FFS.

He had a similar problem earlier where people were giving him threats - thats absurd. I think it was about two years ago when he wanted to review either Terre de Hermes or La Nuit (if I remember correctly).

Thats really upsetting, I thoroughly enjoyed all of his reviews and eagerly awaited new ones. I hope he posts about it on his blog.

People have been giving him shit on there too apparently. He goes away out of the country for months on end for work & so he says (quite rightly) that he's worried about his loved ones because he's not always able to be there. Apparently these people know where he lives and everything. Just horrible. Jealous MF's IMO.

I know that seems pretty steep for a troll, but it happens a lot to female tech bloggers, and there's been some debate among them as to whether it's better to just give up or nail the creeps who do this stuff. Here was Kathy Sierra's case.

What a shame. Marc's a great reviewer and a great guy. A couple of jerks in a YouTube comments section tipped him too far, and if I were Marc, I'd probably do the same. At what point is it no longer worth it?

I'm not sure if this is the threat that's being referenced here, but some tool in a YouTube comments section said he wanted to punch Marc. What a loser. I'm sure there's much more to it though.

it's too bad, I also enjoy watching his reviews. He really puts in his work and seems to have quite a passion when it comes to letting people know what the scent is all about.
Some people on youtube though are nuts. I swear people are more obsessed with what these youtuber reviewers do in their own personal life, than the actual scents themselves.

I was gonna snarkily suggest that he finally ran out of money for blind buys of every Boss flanker under the sun, but if he's getting threats and verbal abuse from his viewers, something's gone off the rails somewhere and I don't blame him one bit for throwing his hands up at the whole thing. I'd do the exact same. A hobby shouldn't turn into something you feel you "have" to do in order not to let down some anonymous Internet fans, let alone those who cross several lines in the name of said "fandom". The mental strain isn't worth it, particularly for a non-paying gig.

Pretty difficult to "laugh something off" when you spend half the year overseas & have loved ones at home who you can't be there for to protect. It's pretty obvious that it's more than the usual "trolling" we're talking about somebody/some people who have found out where he lives and have made physical threats towards him.

Sorry, but making reviews on Youtube ain't worth that shit. As much as I'll miss the guy if he does stop completely, I don't blame him one bit. Anybody who does, needs to take a bit of a look at themselves.

Some of the shmucks on there can be really testing. Take that dude prophecy whatever who actually made a vid about how basenote members suck. He reviews and attacks if you don't agree.

I don't know Marc and I'm not a vid reviewer watcher, but nobody deserves to be dressed down simply over their fragrance opinions.

True. Miguel (Hiro) has received those threatening private messages as well, but he was just laughing them off in one of his BlogTV chats. I believe that's the reason why some YouTube reviewers have left / are leaving for good.

Knowing nothing of the situation but what's written here...if it's really that bad, he should definitely get the authorities involved. If the threats are credible enough that he's afraid to leave his family alone, they're bad enough to report to someone who can do something about it.

I totally agree. Who's to say that even his leaving YouTube blogging will be enough? Someone that unstable might come after him anyway.

Ugh, this is sad indeed. I'm not a big watcher of youtube reviews, I prefer to read instead, as it allows me to insert my own voice, tempo and inflection. However, I have watched a few youtube vids, and Marc's were by far the most informative, especially with regards to niche reviews.

I could see violence coming into play with respect to people overdoing application, repeatedly, to piss somebody off, but on a more intimate level. I can't imagine anyone threatening anybody over fragrance reviews, but the world is a huge bag of mixed nuts, and I guess there's all kinds out there!

Best of luck to Marc, insanity is not a pleasant thing to deal with...

Hey, I rarely watch Youtube reviews, simply because I enjoy the experience of reading reviews, but I always found Marc's videos to be enjoyable and insightful (particularly when he described his take on the progression of a fragrance over a single wear). It's a shame if he's given it up because he did a wonderful job and was appreciated by soo many. Don't stop doing what you love Marc!

Aww, this is really disappointing. I really liked his videos, he's such a likable and charismatic guy and he really knows what he's talking about. It's really a shame when cowards take this "trolling" stuff to this kind of level. I hope Marc is doing well, and I'd love for him to come back, but I understand the circumstances.

Marc is by far my favorite reviewer & his reviews are always the first I look at when researching a fragrance. I hope he doesn't let a few idiots bother him. It would be a shame to lose such a great fragrance fan and resource.

I believe the sad YouTube troll got Marc's (and other reviewers' as well) info and threatened him through private message(s). Marc says in his latest video that he's more concerned about his family's safety, that's why he'll be stepping away from making and posting videos for now.

Exactly. You can't blame the guy. He's away from home half the year too unlike other reviewers. Nobody needs that shit. It's Youtube, not a job. He's under no obligation to post videos. It should be fun. And it the moment, it clearly isn't for him.

My money's on him being back somewhere down the road after recharging his batteries.

And how many other fragrance reviewers are there? I don't see any of them getting death threats. Marc is just a guy on Youtube reviewing a product. Most likely he's just sick of the troll's comments and that's why he's calling it quits.

He's serious. He's not the first Youtube reviewer to stop because of stuff like this either. When people who know where you live threaten you and your family, it's gone too damn far.

Well there is always the possibility that some crazy person will initiate death threats via personal message... but it doesn't seem very likely. A person like that would typically leave evidence of themselves under the video's comments or on the Youtuber's channel before it escalates to PM's. But I've seen nothing of the sort. The worst I've seen are your typical attention-seeking trolls posting their typically obnoxious comments -- and even those are few and far between. I've yet to see anyone truly angry or crazy... let alone angry enough to threaten Marc or his family. But even if these supposed threats are credible, I would hope he'd contact the authorities.

Marc was the guy who got me into fragrances, and IMO he was the best reviewer on YT. Unfortunately alot of the 'bigger' reviewers are disappearing which is a real shame. But respect to Marc, he's put up with this troll crap for a while now and it's gone too far. Hopefully he'll be back in a few months or so, but in the mean time he's gunna be sorely missed by a fair few people, including me. Good luck Marc!

I'm just saying that, typically, feuds on a personal level with a total stranger don't begin at the PM level. Their origin is usually in the comments section, and they escalate from there. And I've never seen anyone post comments under his videos that were even remotely threatening.. or even angry. I suppose it's possible that someone just up and decided one day to PM him some death threats.. but it doesn't seem very likely. Just sayin'.
