Can you Effectively Decant from a spray?......

Everyone, if I order a small atomizer online, can I successfully decant into it from a spray bottle? I want to take some fragrance with me sometimes to refresh during the day but don't want to carry the whole bottle, of course. How do you do this?

With just a modicum of care and a steady hand you'll find it's relatively easy. If you do find it a struggle you can make a little funnel from some silver foil and use that to help you.

As said above , you can uy funnels online or make one yourself using foil or do what i do before buying funnels. I directed the spray of the perfume towards the decant orifice.
Allow some area for movement.
Meaning before you spray, have the spray hole slightly above the decant hole. Because if you line them up before spraying, the spritz will not go in the decant because as you depress the spritzer lowers.

I don't decant but this seems like wise advice.

There's an atomizer that has a unique filling mechanism where you remove the atomizer button from the perfum and connect the stem to the decant sprayer, filling it up in that matter. Someone knows what I'm talking about.

adonis is talking about the Travalo( google it.)-- Sephora has their version but it's pink!

I don't usually need a funnel-- if you depress the sprayer slowly you can usually make the perfume come out in a fine stream instead of a spray. But the foil idea is a good one too.

I use a funnel sometimes but as 30 Roses said - if you are careful - you don't need to. You do need a steady hand - I find it gets very tiring after a while so then the funnel works well.
You can buy plastic funnels of all sizes from www.accessoriesforfragrance.com - good and fast shipping. Not affiliated by the way but I have used this store many times.

Gee whiz. This is all predicated upon the fact that makers of these spray bottles of perfumes make them with top that will not be removed. Very calculated. It's like they are saying "We know you are out there decanting our juice but we are going to make it as hard for you as we can!". What a world!

Ha! I did. They have their own video showing how to use their product. Simple! The only problem with this approach is that you then have your juice in the Travalo. Whereas if you wanted to make say 3 decants from a 100 ml bottle you are still back at Square 1 as far as I can tell. Unless you want to buy 3 Travalos...

I think having removable sprayers is relatively recent -- that is, atomizers used to all be sealed and non-openable.

I bought one of the Sephora Travalo-type atomizers just for fun, but they are expensive and you can't decant into them from splash type bottles. I really prefer the standard type atomizer with a screwed-on sprayer.

My Scent Genie, which is essentially the Travalo has been known to let my perfume evaporate. My vintage Mitsouko 'disappeared' from it .So if you do decant into a Travalo I recommend using it up as fast as possible in case of evaporation.

Mimi, that was while you were traveling, right? Do you think the pressure in the passenger section of the plane is slightly less than at ground level? I wonder....anyway, thanks for the advice; I don't want to lose what I decanted into it (C&E Evelyn.)

30 Roses- you could be right- I never thought of it !
However, I still think that since the Travalo is meant for travelling etc- it shouldn't make your fragrances evaporate. It was quite upsetting that my vintage Mitsouko was all nearly gone.

You are right of course-- it is being marketed to travelers and should not allow for evaporation!

I have a little sack of funnels that I use. (And, guiltily, throw away after use, because I rarely decant the same thing more than once and I don't want even a little contamination of one perfume by another.) I doubt that I'll ever have a steady enough hand to decant without a funnel.

The pressure is less, which can cause pens and perfumes to leak. You'd probably notice the damp and/or smell around the container though, otherwise it is probably evaporation. I always seal whatever my fragrance is in inside a ziploc bag when traveling, and / or I also tried using electrical tape around the neck.
