the best ever 1980s fragrance ever is?(smell, longevity, sillage)

My choice would be aramis JHL(1982)-it simply is the heavyweight champ of all 80s fragrances.what would your choice be if you could pick just one?
Easy for me: Patou Pour Homme.

I didn't know what I had until I found I couldn't get it again.
Kouros is like a fragrant black hole that sucked in all energy and matter associated with the 1980s and condensed it into liquid form.
I like a lot of them, but Kouros is the most distinctive to me.
Or Masculin by Bourjois
Fahrenheit for me. Zino a close second.
SIGNOR VIVARA by Emilio Pucci.
It was created in 1970 but i used to wear it in the 1980s
post #8 of 62
I'm going to go with Drakkar Noir. It may not be the "best" scent, but it was absolutely ubiquitous and remains a classic. Just like the Star Wars movies weren't "great" movies, they define a decade nonetheless.
I'll go with the original Polo.
Patou Pour Homme
A tie between Patou PH, Kouros and Or Black - or not, since they represent different families.
So hard to pick but I will go for Chanel Antaeus ( 1981) ! Loved that stuff.
I don't know about the best, but out of all the ones I wore back then, the one I enjoyed the most was Fahrenheit...
Kouros
I agree with Polo. I love the complexity.
Bijan Men.
Kouros is far away to be the best from the 80s!

Its the best of all time
I tend to shy away from the 80s, but I'd have to go with Patou pour Homme.
Kouros as well
I don't know about best, but my favorite from the 80s is Salvador Dali PH. It still holds up wonderfully today, too.
Sorry, The Third Man by Caron...
I remember Halston from 81-82 being pretty popular !
Derby
3rd Man by Caron
New York
GIT
Polo came out in the '78, just sayin'. I'd go with Zino followed closely by Tiffany for Men and 3rd Man.
Patou pour Homme
One Man Show!
How about Poison!!
Kouros by Yves Saint Laurent

At that time it was the original Paco Rabanne.

Tough choice to make.

For me its a tie between Davidoff (1984), Kouros and Rochas' Macassar.
Kouros

then Fahrenheit

honourable mentions:
Bijan
Versace L'Homme
Antaeus
KL Homme
Furyo

All the above are true powerhouses
I fully recommend Versace L'Homme, Antaeus and Zino
post #33 of 62
Another one for Polo.
Kouros is very hard to beat. I like pretty much all of the mentioned (that I know), Fahrenheit, Le Troisième homme, Versace L'homme, One Man Show, etc.

Had no chance to try JHL, Derby or Or Black, all of which sound excellent.
Derby gets my vote.
The one that gives me the most pleasure is New York (Nicolai).

+1
Along with Derby!
Pick just one ? This is tough...... I would say Zino Davidoff. But Czech & Speake No 88 is a close second !
I have a tie for 1st Place between Patou Pour Hommeand Etienne Aigner's Super Fragrance
post #40 of 62
Kouros for power, Derby for 'bestness.'
Patou Pour Homme

Other favourites I enjoy - Derby, New York, GIT.
Polo - it has stood the test of time and has not changed itself from its original formula. It is very well know internationally just by its scent.
too many to mention...but I'd probably go for Gucci Nobile.
I couldn't really say which is best, but if I had to choose only two frags from now on it would probably be the original Polo formulation and Lagerfeld Cologne (not the new "Classic" formulation), though I think that was from the late 70s.
Versace l'Homme
Antaeus
Lagerfeld KL Homme
Patou pour Homme
Zino.
Versace L'Homme.

I remember Polo in the 70's. I think I remember that Paco was also from the 70's.
If Polo, a non-Eighties scent, can stand in as defining the decade, then let me nominate 1990's Balenciaga Pour Homme as the ultimate Eighties masculine. It's like they took Kouros and asked themselves ''How can we make this more excessive?" and decided to pour on an ocean of smoky, boozy amber.

It's not versatile, it's not my favorite ( that would be Patou PH ), but if I had to nominate one fragrance as '''80s in a bottle'', this would be it. It's absolutely no surprise to me this died out like some ice age megafauna born after its time.

LMAO.....I love this beast, but I can't argue your description at all. You killed me with the ice-age megafauna line.

Fahrenheit

Drakkar. Not the best but memorable when I think of 80s

That's easy - KOUROS
Fahrenheit
Technically the original Polo might have been a 1978 release but I dare say it ruled for much of the 1980s. More so than Kouros. I don't know if it was the best but it certainly came close.
Patou PH for pure goodness, Kouros for pure badness (in a good way!).

I love how these 80s threads always lure the Basenotes old timers out of the woodwork!!
I haven't tried all mentioned here, but Zino would be my choice, and how about Trussardi Uomo and Nina Ricci - Phileas? I believe they deserve an honorable place amongst the best fragrances of the '80s.

I have got to try Trussardi Uomo and Nina Ricci Phileas. I heard that Phileas has a celary note/smell, so I shyed away from sampling it.
