Game: Guess the Fragrance by the Picture!~ PART 3 - Page 10

Good guess, Kiliwia, but not the right answer. The House I was hinting at is not Guerlain. Still, it is one of the places you have to visit when you are in Paris.

And again I say: work with kbe's answer ::and where IS he::
HE is having a hell of a time with HIS $(%*@ computer! Something keeps knocking me out of sign-in for Basenotes, hence, as a 'non-member' I have been unable post!

Parfum Sacré
by Caron

I had problems logging in and "going advanced" so it could be BN problems again and not your computer But now we both can go into Zen mode again because Parfum Sacré is the right answer.
Congrats my dear
Thank you Riannon for a good head-bender and some nifty clues. My turn>

House and fragrance please:

Nothing Yet by Gosh?

Congrats, Ken - couldn t see any picture at first...sorry!!

The pic made me think of Palazzo by Fendi, but I doubt that s correct.

Yeah, I remember it's a door in Florence, Italy. But I think it's on a church.

Acqua di Portofino by Acqua di Portofino?

I think those are the bronze doors named "The Gates of Paradise" made by Lorenzo Ghiberti for the Baptistery of the cathedral of Florence. There are ten panels, depicting scenes from the Old Testament.

Lots of possibilities here. Beyond Paradise by Estée Lauder?

Goodnight
L'Heure Mysterieuse by Cartier?
Not Palazzo by Fendi musse

Acqua di Portofino by Acqua di Portofino? Not this Aiona

You are absolutely correct Riannon: There are many paths to X out. The doors are indeed on the The Florence Baptistry or Battistero di San Giovanni (Baptistry of St. John) and made by Lorenzo Ghiberti and located in Florence, Italy.

Beyond Paradise by Estée Lauder? Not this Riannon.

L'Heure Mysterieuse by Cartier? and not this Hednic.

**Correction--PLEASE READ!***

--a couple of hints to point all slightly in the right direction: The answer is a French House and the Fragrance name in in English, and one part of the answer is a play on language/words when thought of in English.

Ciel d`Airain (Huitieme Art Parfums)?

Not Ciel d'Airain musse. Basically both the House and the frag are what you see, taking into consideration the hints I gave.

**ack! I just re-read my hints and they need correction!! See Below:

Oh great, I am not good in "sounds like" and "a play on language/words" puzzles Have mercy with this non-native English speaker.

The best I can come up with is Bronze Sweet Sun by Christian Dior.
Well...heck! My best bows to your best. You nailed it kiddo. And I thought I could toy with you folks for at least another day with this one..."Mercy" you cry? "Have mercy"? It is I who needs a dose of quality of Mercy (shaken but not strained).

Christian Dior Bronze Sweet Sun is absolutely the answer.

Well done Riannon!!

:sulks and hangs head in abject defeat:

There, their, they're, dear I must have had an angel on my shoulder.
Thank you for a great and devious puzzle. I am actually sorry that the answer was correct, the game should have lasted longer.

At this moment I have no puzzle ready and will leave soon. Perhaps one of the other players feels inspired?

::gives kbe a hug and biggest box of Mercy::
OK...no takers for posting a new puzzle so I am posting another. Fragrance only. Hopefully this one will be more of a challenge.

Nice legs. Why do nobility always seem to have clothing with some kind of white with black spots on them?
But anyway, so it's not d'Orsay. Google-ing d'Orsay, he seemed more of a top-hat kind of guy, right?
So this dude is older?

He looks a bit mad, but he's certainly not King Ludwig. They had short hair anyway.

He's Louis XIV. The Sun King. You're really into the "sun" thing lately, huh, kbe?

My guess: \tLe Roy Soleil
by Salvador Dali (1997)

That is ermine fur, Aiona. Worn by the highest nobility.

I expect that this will be a beast of a puzzle, as revenge

How about Bourbon Homme by Marina de Bourbon? Or looking at that coat: Bleu Royal also by Marina de Bourbon?

Well thought out guess Sunnygirl Aiona..the picture is Louis XIV. The answer could have been Le Roy Soleil on another day, but today it isn't.

Two more good guesses by you Riannon, particularly prescient and germane to the correct answer in a general way was your remark about what he is wearing, but again, those two answers are not what I am after. I originally considered this a much easier puzzle than the last. I had both waiting in ambush and believed 'The Doors' the one that would give the most trouble in solving.

I know the feeling dear I remember an easy puzzle that kept us busy for an entire day because we were overthinking it too much. Still...fun!

Concentrating on his coat now. Could it be Gilded Lily by Ineke?

You are on the right runway concentrating on something to do with clothing. Not Guilded Lily however.

Last guess for the moment: Hedwig by Demeter?
Sa Majesté?
Neither Hedwig Riannon nor Sa Majesté hednic. The answer is a particular description of the clothing in addition to who it is for. Three word answer.
Quelques Fleurs Royale by Houbigant?

Another good guess and I like it, but no musse, not Quelques Fleurs Royale by Houbigant

hint: what would such clothing as Louis XIV is wearing be called today in the trade?

Aside from Vintage or Show-Off?

Perhaps Miroir des Majestés by Thierry Mugler.

I'd say Silky Underwear by Lush, but that's two words, not three!

::grateful for 3 cups of coffee::

How about Bas de Soie by Lutens?

Hmm, does not quite fit the hint "The answer is a particular description of the clothing in addition to who it is for"

Well, he's got all those fleur de lis on his cloak... so maybe
Fleur de Louis?
by Arquiste (2011)

Hmm.. but Arquiste has 6 perfumes listed in the directory.

Fluff or pirate gear? LOL. Royal, classic, victorian, antique?

Right Aiona. Arquiste has too many listings to be the answer. But...if you would like to, please play around with Louis and address him by name in a sort of diminutive but phonetic way. You may be the one to clothe him properly as clothes maketh the man, do they not? ..but wait. Maybe for this puzzle it is the other way around...hmmm

Kalli there is another, all-encompassing word used today to describe Louis' clothing.

..and as for me I am enjoying this!

No no! I'm thinking!!!

Ok lol..more words for old and dated in this case:

Renaissance, shabby, timeless, patriarchal, dated, old, retro(lol), historical, grand? Lol, more fun for you I guess if I am off, lol.

The painting is described as "Portrait de Louis XIV en costume de sacre", so his coronation gown.
Coronation / crown / sacre...all dead ends
post #582 of 655
hint: concentrate on a single word description that would fit the entire process of what/why/how/for whom (not necessarily only royalty) such clothing was made then and now. What is that entire process called? There is a name for it today. Get that and the rest is easy.

If anyone is interested to play, here is a new puzzle.

Fragrance only.
The pic looks like a Frank Frazetti style fantasy painting but a quick search of his work didn't bring up the image.

So...I will lead off with Far away Fantasy?

Certainly a nice guess but not the right answer. It is not important who this picture made or what the original title was (if it even had one). Just the image is important.
OK then, how about Champion Black by Al Rehab

or perhaps Hero by Prince Matchabelli (among others)

..and two outside shots at the hoop: Nike Up or Down Man by Nike or

Heaven Sent by Dana...or the reverse: Sent From Heaven

Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab's Wings of Azrael?

Heaven by Chopard?

Some very good guesses there but still not what I am looking for. KBE, I love that Nike Up or Down Man
Looking at the picture, there is room for some doubt hmm? (this is a hint) Good try with Wings of Azrael, Insomniac.

Second hint: think French.

Heh!

As for Riannon's latest puzzle... I too thought of Azrael.

But how about Revelation
by Pierre Cardin (2004)
?

Right language Aiona, wrong number of words

When BN goes on behaving like this, I am leaving!

Update: I only now realize that Revelation is both an English and French word (in French actually written as Révélation). To be perfectly clear: I assumed Aiona meant the French word.
