Mystery smell - sour?

Circa around 1994 - or at any event, at some point in the '90s, I had a deodorant buy the Body Shop with a great smell. Occasionally, I catch a whiff of it on somebody - usually a man. Once it was on a female, someone I knew, and I asked, and it was Paloma Picasso. I have a hard time describing smells - I think there's a touch of sourness to it - but in a good way, very good. Yesterday I tried GUerlain Vetiver, and after the sharp, kind of eucalyptus opening, there was an Irish Spring soap type smell for awhile, and then it became somewhat reminiscent of the mystery smell. I wonder if it's the vetiver itself -- I don't know what vetiver smells like. Paloma Picasso, which also has this smell, has vetiver. They both also have coriander. Any guesses?

Vetiver can be a very bitter plant, so maybe that's what you smell.
