New Fragrance: Carolina Herrera 212 VIP Men

Thread Starter
From nstperfume.com:

Carolina Herrera has launched 212 VIP Men, the masculine counterpart to last years 212 VIP:

212 VIP MEN is a masculine fragrance that completes the 212 VIP universe and represents the style and attitude of VIP men in New York.

The 212 VIP man: charismatic, fun, elegant, sophisticated, desired and envied.

DONT JUST GO TO THE PARTY. BE THE PARTY.

212 VIP Men was developed by perfumers Emilie Coppermann and David Apel; notes for the woody oriental include vodka, passion fruit, ginger, black pepper, frozen mint, lime caviar, spices, leather, amber and king wood.

Carolina Herrera 212 VIP Men is available in 50 and 100 ml Eau de Toilette.

Lime caviar?

Pass. The original was so vile it saturated me with CH for life.
Sounds interesting with the notes, but I'm thinking it's not going to be too much different from something else out there. Seems to be the way things are now...

Another flanker for the 212 line.
Always more of the same, expect something different this time.

Emilie did a marvelous job for CH Men that I love so much, so I have high hopes for 212 VIP.

Every time I see scents like this, all I can think about is the marketing discussion that led to their creation. Especially after seeing the BBC documentary. The scent might actually be good, but I'm just predisposed to think it's baloney.

-Alight Roy, we need to reach out to the 18-25 male demographic.
-Sounds good Mack, what do 18-25 year old males like these days? He need to be hip.
-Uh, clubs? Money? Drinking overpriced ultrapremium vodka to impress women? I guess. Music is played out....
-Yes! Let's make a fragrance that says, "I aspire to the high-end clubbing lifestyle, and I drink $25 vodka mixers with passion fruit and lime caviar." We can even riff on their desire for heightened social status by using an exclusivity motif on the packaging!
-Oh they will totally eat that up. Good job, Roy.
-Thanks, Mack! Let's find some hip, young perfumers to throw something together!

I am sure Jeffrey is just ecstatic to hear this news and harassing Herrera's folks for the skinny.

Haha. At least he makes lampshades of 212 promotional items and not... people. Of course, I shouldn't give him any ideas - somebody wearing 212 could become a victim. "Every time I turn my new 212 light on, it fills the room with fragrant 212 due to this uniquely designed lampshade, complete with a 212 tattoo". Ok, ok. So I have a twisted mind.

I agree.....Gary

The notes look like a cocktail recipe - vodka, passion fruit, ginger, black pepper, lime cavier. This may taste better than smell. Can anybody tell me what "King Wood" is? I google the term and all I get are male porn stars.

Let's step into the time machine and go back to March 5, 2003, shall we?

Hello Everyone,

I have just received notice of the following regarding the domain
name I registered... carolinaherrera212.com.

Can you believe that I have been ordered to remove the site?????

This is *REALLY* upsetting to me.

They have had how many years to register the name??? Women's was
launched in 1997, men's in 1999... and it takes them this long to buy
the domain name?!?!?!?!?

So much for my hobby.

Re: "CAROLINAHERRERA212.COM" Internet Domain Name

Dear Mr. Primeau:

We represent Carolina Herrera Ltd. ("Carolina Herrera"),
the
owner of the world-renowned CAROLINA HERRERA and 212 CAROLINA HERRERA
trademarks, among others.

It has come to our attention that you have registered and
are
using the Internet domain name "CAROLINAHERRERA212.COM" (the "Domain
Name"). Your registration and use of this domain name constitute
trademark infringement, trademark dilution and unfair competition
under applicable federal and state statutes and under common law.

We are familiar with the content of your website, and we
appreciate and share your admiration for our client's 212 fragrance.
While Carolina Herrera encourages fans such as yourself to express
online your fondness for the Carolina Herrera 212 fragrance, your
selection of "CAROLINAHERRERA212.COM" as the Domain Name for your
website is confusingly similar to the 212 CAROLINA HERRERA trademark.

Although you state on the website that it was not created for
commercial purposes, the Domain Name itself will have the effect of
diverting internet consumers away from official Carolina Herrera
websites and will prevent our client from using this domain name for
its own commercial benefit. Because of this effect, even if you did
not so intend, the law views your use of the Domain Name as
commercial
in nature, thus infringing on the 212 CAROLINA HERRERA and CAROLINA
HERRERA trademarks.

Our client views this infringement with grave concern and
has
asked us to take action on its behalf. Accordingly, on behalf of
Carolina Herrera, we hereby demand that you immediately cease and
desist from using the Domain Name and, further, that you immediately
relinquish all registrations relating thereto.

Please respond within ten (10) business days from the
date
on
which you receive this letter by certified mail with your written
assurances that you have complied with the foregoing demands. If we
do not hear from you within this time period, we will be forced to
take appropriate action to protect our client's rights, as is our
customary procedure. We trust, however, that your timely cooperation
and your voluntary abandonment of the Domain Name will make further
escalation of this dispute unnecessary. We enclose a Domain Name
transfer form and a self-addressed, stamped envelope for your
convenience.

We look forward to your prompt response and wish you good
luck
in your website development.

Very truly yours,

Lynda M. Braun

I wore this today. It's very contemporary and non-naturalistic. It has that toxic-candy bubblegum thing going on. I can imagine the marketing people said "give us something along the lines of paco rabanne one million". I'm not prejudiced against the genre, but I don't particularly enjoy wearing 212 VIP. Projection seems moderate, I can still smell it on my wrist after about 5 hours (3 sprays), so I'd say longevity is reasonable.

I tried this today and it's an instant guilty pleasure. A soft, warm sweet scent. Like a toned-down, less cloying version of Paco Rabanne $1million or Black XS. Of course it's quite synthetic, but it's also rather lovely in its own way. It reminds me a little of Lynx Africa, which will no doubt have perfumistas gagging, but hey, I like it!

Yea after my initial skepticism, I tried this today and it was a guilty pleasure. Not quite sure it's FBW, but it's on my radar.

Tired it today in john lewis and have to say it probs one of the better even best mainstream fragrance to come out this year.

Milk and cream on top of synthetic notes reminds me alot of diesel plus plus smooth, i got 4-6 hours on first apply

Can see this being worn at the pubs and clubs in the future
post #23 of 28
I smelt it yesterday. For me it's a twist 1 Million / Black Afgano.
Nice fragrance although the base note is very very vanilla for a men fragrance.

this will be interesting. i love the smell of 212 for men, but i hate the smell of 212 sexy.
Milk and cream on top of synthetic notes reminds me alot of diesel plus plus smooth as Kierroo said, bit like 1 Million, Not a bad scent. On my skin lasted around 7 hours, scent "cloud" was about 3-4 hours.

After CH Men, that is a masterpiece for me, I expected something more unique from Carolina. It seems to me that after the success of PR 1 Million the Puig company (owns such brands as Carolina Herrera, Paco Rabanne, Antonio Banderas, Prada etc.) began to make all its male fragrances similar to this bestseller. Last year we had Antonio Banderas The Secret, this year - 212 VIP Men. On a card the new Carolina Herrera smells like a watered down fruity version of 1 Million (I haven't noticed any resemblance to Black XS). But when I spray 212 VIP on myself metamorphosis shocked me! The smell turned into... chocolaty deodorant Axe (Lynx) Dark Temptation. Yes, one-in-one! I had to wear Axe instead of perfume, but 212 VIP is 25 times more expensive!

When 1 Million is a sillage & longevity monster, this one is quite light (longevity is good thought). Yes, like those seductive deodorant. However I have to admit 212 VIP is a comfortable fragrance.

I own a bottle of this one and quite like it.
Fruity 1 Million, with good projection and longevity (but not massive as the precursor)
