VIOLET BLONDE - Tom Ford's New Women's Signature Fragrance

I believe there has been some discussion around this new fragrance previously however no specifics in regards to notes and dates being released, being that it is the new women's signature scent it seemed appropriate to post this here.

I found out the notes for Violet Blonde today -

Top:
Violet Leaf Absolute
Italian Mandarin
Baie Rose

Middle:
Tuscan Orris Absolute
Tuscan Orris Butter
Jasmin Sambac
Sampaquita

Bottom:
Benzoin
Cedarwood
Vetiver Absolute
Musk
Soft Suede

The bottle design is the same as Tom Ford White Patchouli however is made from the same transparent glass as the Tom Ford for Men bottles. The usual square Tom Ford gold name plate on the front of the bottle has been changed to a rectangular gold name plate that stretches across the bottom front of the bottle and in each corner of the plate a small gold screw/bolt has been added. Doubt it is an actual screw/bolt and is just a raised design in the metal plate to look that way, hard to tell from the photo I saw. Note also that the the photo I saw stated that it was not the final image as outer packaging shown as white (similar again to White Patchouli) has been changed to violet in colour.

Will be available in 30mL EDP, and 50mL EDP. Same pricing as Black Orchid and White Patchouli.

Release date for Australia is September 4th, unsure if this is the same date globally or if it will differ.

Hmmm...Cedar Vetiver based, with musk and suede!
Sounds masculine, like all the tom ford mainstream female marketed fragrances.
Its the new market, the "females" smells like 90s male fragrances, and "male" smells like 90s female fragrances.

My SA here in Perth told me the release has been pushed to October here in Aus. Let's see what happens.
Whatever the case, I'm looking forward to trying it.

Ford will also launch 2 new Private Blends before the year is out.

Will have to follow up on this. I am the Tom Ford CM in Sydney and am not aware of it being pushed back. Not saying it isn't possible though. The 2 new Private Blends are Santal Blush, and Jasmin Rouge. They will be launched October 2nd along with the new Private Blend Lipcolor Collection.

The full Tom Ford Make-up, Skincare, and Foundation Collections will be launched in November however will be exclusive to Elizabeth St and Bourke St stores.

Will keep you posted if I am made aware of an date changes

AH!
I am mistaken... it must have been the PB scents she mentioned were pushed to be launched in October. I think I made the assumption that all 3 would be.

have you sniffed any of these at your training yet? Santal Blush sounds intriguing.

Unfortunately training is one thing that has been pushed back so I have been unable to smell them yet. I believe I posted the notes for both Santal Blush and Jasmine Rouge in a previous post in another thread if you have not read them yet. I am very intrigued to smell Santal Blush too, nice to see some Aussie Sandalwood thrown in. I read somewhere actually that quite a few companies are choosing to use Australian Sandalwood more and more now opposed to sourcing from India for example because we are a more sustainable and environmentally responsible supplier. Last year Clarins were looking to double their purchase amounts over 5 years and the sandalwood purchased by Givaudan make up 1/3 of TFS Corporation's exports. Just some random info

I tried this in Saks. My initial impression is that it is a very nice violet fragrance. But it seemed a bit too light/tame for my tastes. I have a sample I took home, so will try it again before making any final decisions.

I'm excited to try this one, I like violet fragrances (especially MyQueen) and I hope this will be better than White Patchouli which I just couldn't get on with.

That is promising!

Seems like a violet revival is on. First Tuca Tuca on the low end and now this. Ford is pushing it -- it was the only scent strip in the NY Times style magazine that came out this week. I liked what I smelled on the strip -- seems like a sister to Black Orchid and BOVDF. Still, nothing touches Le Dix and the original Jolie Madame as far as violets go.

I love Jolie Madame, too. Karl Lagerfeld's Karleidescope is coming out soon, too, another violet scent, so you may be right about a violet revival. Petruccijc's description of Tom Ford's Violet Blonde as "light" and "tame" is actually a good indicator for me.

Personally, the TF frags have not appealed to me - not subtle enough - but I'll be interested in the initial reviews of this one and hope it works for the BN violet lovers.

I smelled this today at Saks, and have a paperstrip under my nose right now. I agree with petrucci, nice violet, but kind of tame and light. The violet is a little bit on the sweet side, and there are discrete ambers in the background. It comes off as almost fruity, thus nodding to the sugary tendencies of mainstream perfume buyers. But it's pleasant and not cloying. Still, I prefer the more focused Penhaligon, not to mention the kick*** vintage Jolie Madame.

Violet is one note I still struggle with, especially when it's strong.

I always felt it squashed out the lavender in Aqua Allegoria Lavande Velours by Guerlain, so that it was much more of a violet scent than a lavender one...and it hit me in the back of the throat a bit with it's dryness.

A 'light' violet sounds lovely.

Has anyone who's smelled this also smelled the (Private Blend) Black Violet by Tom Ford and care to compare the two? I remember smelling BV ages ago and mentally comparing it to the fantastic (and discontinued) Midnight Violet by Ava Luxe which I loved.

I smelled BV a long time ago, so memory has faded somewhat, but there's no relation. I remember BV as a dark, winey floral, it might have had violet, but it wasn't the dominating note, whereas Violet blonde is a straightforward violet. Violet Blonde is sweetish and has ambers to mellow it, so perhaps it will work for you.

I had a sample of TF Black Violet a while back, and it smelled richly dense to me. I didn't catch any violet in it at all, that is such a fleeting ethereal note.

As I thought, thanks ladies.

The Saks at South Coast Plaza (So. CAL) has both Santal Blush and Jasmin Rouge. I took a sample of each home -- haven't tried the Santal Blush yet but I'm a big fan of Jasmine so I tried that right away. I thought it was beautiful. It reminds me a little of the Jasmin in Love and Tears by Kilian but less woods and much greater staying power. Very nice, just indolic enough but I think you could possibly wear it to the office if you went a little light on the application.

I sampled Santal Blush, Jasmin Rouge and Violet Blonde and didn't find anything memorable in any of them. I just was reminded of many other fragrances in each. I was hoping for something better I guess.
I tried the Violet Blonde today, no samples so just sprayed on my arm. The opening is pure parma violet sweets all sugary candied violet, then on me it turns very woody. Just a hint of violet 5 hours later many cedar, infact I swear I get sandalwood as well. This is not mentioned in any notes listed though.

"too light/tame" really? I'm excited. I wish Black Orchid & White Patchouli were a big light like an Eau Fraiche version. They are a chore to wear sometimes /:

Correct me here on the mid-notes, but aren't Sambac Jasmine and Sampaguita (Filipino jasmine) the same thing?
Yes both jasmine, perhaps he wanted to different variations of it?

Okay I actually bought a bottle. I was at an event in SpaceNK and two glasses of champagne. LOL Retried it and this time it seemed to bloom, last saturday on first try I had other things going on the Tastes of Mulger for one. This time the violet leaft stayed much longer.

My thoughts, too. Maybe we can do a simultaneous three-way sampling in person. Oh, the happy perversion.
Five'll getcha ten -- my skin'll make the sweetness go away.

Thanks for all the info, Praetorian.

I just tried it at Saks yest. Actually the woman who was selling me Sisley make up smelled incredible, and I mean awesome... very sexy feminine plush aldehyde, but with a distinct spice, too, and very sophisticated. She was a thirty-ish woman, very Caribbean-looking, gorgeous, and wore a blousy, ultra-feminine top with large ruffles that was kind of shantung-y fabric and shell pink. Anyway, the total effect was the sort of thing I like to imagine I pull off, at least once in blue moon .

Of course, I asked her what she was wearing; it was Violet Blonde. I got no obvious violet in the sillage, though the initial spray of it offered a token blast of clear, sweet violet. Overall, a light, interesting, novel Oriental Floral ala Eau Claire des Merveilles.

And SOLD.

And the moral of the story is: I clearly love fragrance too much!
Nice mini review Hillaire! You've sold me too.

Anyone else here get a similarity to Boudoir?

I agree, JC. A nice violet but I need to make a few more wearings before deciding if this will be a full bottle.

JUST smelled in on a tester page from Nordstrom and loved it.. can't wait to try it. Definately smelled the violet, leather took over.. deep somewhat dark sense. Going to try the real thing.. it's drawing me closer.....

Welcome to Basenotes FlaLadyB!

Got a sample from Saks at the NOLA sniff. Very violet, but it wasn't that sugary on my musky skin.
Nice to see a modern twist on a flower that gets stereotyped as "old lady"
