Should I buy Amouage Gold?

Hi again,

Have been finding this forum really helpful lately. I'm wondering whether or not to buy Amouage Gold. I've fancied it for a while, but have been buying like crazy recently. I've purchased eight frags in the past three days, overkill even by my standards! Maybe someone will be kind enough to look at my wardrobe and say if there is a place for this?

Many thanks,
ahep

Honestly, that a decision that only you can make.

It is a really nice scent, but limited as to when and where you can wear it. If you can afford it then I say get it.

I just bought Amouage Gold Man last week (universal perfumes on eBay) and I'm glad I did. I loved it when I first smelled it last year but I wasn't quite ready for it then. It's a masculine floral kaliedoscope with a touch of civet. Not an everyday kind of frag but a wonderful choice to have.

I think you can find a better fragrance for a lot less.

I love Gold man and if you're looking for an encouragement, I will certainly give it. You don't really have a floral in your collection, and Gold man fills the void - it's a humongous floral incense, powerful and refined. It's not something you want to use at the gym, but you do have plenty of others for that purpose. If you go light (very light, eg on the skin under the clothes), you can also wear it at work - but you don't want to overdo it.

Whether you want to spend the considerable money, now or later, it's up to you.

Only You can make this decision! Amouage Gold is not one for me.....Gary

I own it and love it, not for everybody, gorgeous, but very, very artistic!

Yea.....this one is a must-try in my opinion. It's one of the few from this House I really didn't think was worth it.

You may feel differently.

Nope, just don't do it! Unless you've tried it and like it? Buy it if if you like it

A big NO.

Cmax...

Strangely enough, I had the urge to wear it tonight and I have to say this: best fragrance that I own. Citrus, civet and powder: le grand tradition.

I would instead buy Mouchoir de Monsieur. Clearer citrus and civet notes, sans the baby powder.

True.... Not for me either.

I like it, but every time I wear it I can only think of "honeyed cat pee," as Amouage Gold is famously described on BN. Search for that phrase on BN, you'll see what I mean. It's dead on right.

Try vintage Chanel No. 19 edt.

I'm so glad that Amouage scents work well on me, especially Gold. If you like Gold, and Gold smells amazing on you, please own it. Because Gold is luxerious, and sexy.

Thanks for the input on this everyone; in the end, I decided not to get it (for now at least!) and instead buy a couple of other niche frags. Why have one when you can have two! Also, I really like Noir de Noir for an evening floral scent and have ten or so other frags on order so am sure that something will satisfy my obsession! As a side note, almost purchased Jubilation XXV until I read about the longevity issues on here; this forum is so useful!

I love gold man, but it's so damn expensive! I finally bought the bullet on Epic about a month ago, but will have to wait before I buy another biggie like that!

We all have different opinions about Gold. Some may not like it, some find other similar frags to be better, and some are fans. As someone already said, after reading all the opinions, the only one that matters is yours!

Nooo! -Unless you want to smell like an 80 year old rich woman.

I liked it enough to make me buy a bottle (I was also on a buying craze at that point of time - when I had more than enough), but I now feel that I could have spent elsewhere instead. I was even gifted a 2nd bottle (yeah.. I know...). I wish I could tell you which decision is best, but when it comes to buying, you only find out after it. But don't feel out of place, most of us go through similar dilemmas quite regularly. I can relate to you.

If I had a great deal more cash than I have I'd probably have bought it myself. It's nice. I like the skank in there. You might consider - as above - Mouchoir de Monsieur, or even Jicky or perhaps Muscs Kublai Khan - or at a push maybe Bal a Versailles. All mucho cheaper.

Though it's worth saying that the idea that there's a frag that'll somehow do it - fill the frag-hole, be the one, end the search for the holy frag, whatever - is just that: an idea. Taking your foot off the pedal for a little while won't kill you (I say this to myself as well - though there's little evidence I'm listening...).
