and I couldn't find one I enjoyed.

I read on here that "bulletproof" has a nice coconut scent, but that wore away within a minute, leaving only a very dark, burnt tea essence.

so now I'm back on the hunt for a niche fragrance to fall in love with.

I feel so used..

I happen to like some of this line.

I enjoy Poe's Tobacco (apple with tobacco) and Ex Libris (fig with cardamom)

Niche scents can also break your heart. This is why sampling is the way to go.

For instance, I so wanted to like Sl Boxeuses. In the end, no full bottle for this one.

I get more "walk-in-humidor" with Bulletproof versus anything particularly coconut-y. Like it quite a bit.

I manage a cigar store, and I can tell you that if you get that smell in a walk in humidor you better take a flamethrower to it lol.

I actually smelled leather on the drydown.

anyway, its all good because I tried HM by Hanae Mori afterwards and loved it

There's a moment right the opening where the coconut is definitely front and center. In my experience, that fades pretty quickly, but nonetheless the coconut persists in the background throughout the drydown. If I try to imagine the fragrance once it gets into the middle without the coconut, I think I wouldn't like it. It's the coconut that makes this wearable IMO.

Well, I feel compelled to jump in here to report that my experience with the Tokyo Milk Dark series is exactly the opposite of the OP's! I have sniffed most of them on paper and find all of them potentially worthy. I have worn two of them on skin and really enjoyed both (I'll be reviewing the whole line at Fragrantica, since they are not in the bn db...):

EXCESS is a scrumptious amber patchouli. Smells wonderful and as good as if not better than many much higher-priced niche ambers to me.

LA VIE LA MORT is a pleasing and unique presentation of tuberose mingling with jasmine and cardamom. Nice.

I definitely recommend that those who favor niche-quality ingredients and eccentric note combinations check out this line.

I really like Excess, Tainted Love and Arsenic. For a decent price too.

How dare you express opposing viewpoints in my thread. I motion for a ban!!!!

In all seriousness though, I have been itching to go back and sample these again .

first off I definitely wouldnt classify tokyo milk as a niche house. I tried the bulletproof also because i was looking for a manly coconut smell, I thought it was horrible.

Because i havent found anything that = the many coconut smell I went ahead and settled for Paul Smith London. I dont really get the coconut out of it but i suppose it will do until i find the grail.
