had read lots of reviews that this is one woman's fragrance that actually smells better on men (oh my, pardon my impunity), is it worth buying the new formulation (black bottle, gold cap) or shall i hunt down for the vintage, original version? also can anyone give me any tips where to find the vintage version (apart from ebay)? thanks.

Male friendly for sure, as all the old female tobacco fragrances.

I dont know about the vintages, but the current is pretty rich and strong.

Absolutely can! A keeper for the fellas too.
As Daniel says above, the modern is more accessible and equally as wearable as any vintage formulation.

If he can spray it, he can wear it - just like any other fragrance on the market. Enjoy!

love the comment: 'if he can spray it he can wear it'. i guess i have to care less about what people say and just go for it and enjoy, also try to be more daring and a bit less conservative.

danny, enjoy Habanita! I have a vintage EdT (stunning original Lalique bottle)

but I do not know what to make exactly of the fragrance... it is much less powerful than I would have expected, but then, I do not expect low concentrations like EdT to age particularly well. Some notes might be disintegrated now? It is different but related. Do not bother with the vintage I would say...
The extrait is worth a try (slightly greener, leathery minus the powder, sillage more redux), if you are crazy in love with the EdT. The vintage of this rarely shows up and I have not had the pleasure.

I enjoy so much this fragrance and I have meet some men who also wear it. As very weel said before, if you can spray it you can wear it, but IMO from a woman point of view it is kinda perfectly wearable (better suitable) scent for men skin.

I have some recent production bottles and no idea how smell the vintage one. Anyway it is pretty good the current one. Good sillage and longevity and also a glorious drydown.

enjoy it!!!

Yes. It is very nice also.

I also wear this. I love that cherry pipe tobacco accord. Definitely not one to over apply it is a sillage and longevity monster.

yes, of course!

Absolutely! Love it!

It can, but I don't.

It smells like something an old man would wear, in Miami, in the 60's or 70's. Total pass on this one for me.

You can intimidate a surfeit of skunks with the current EDT it is so bitingly strong. Heavy smokers might be able to handle the first few hours after application, but I'm not man (or grandmother) enough, unless I hit one ankle with a single half-tap before racing round the block.

Not in my opinion. Speaking for myself, of course. I'm sure other guys could pull it off.

You should! I just got a sample of Habanita today and I think it would be fantastic on a man. It's not as tobacco heavy or leathery as I expected it to be, though. The dry down is the most wonderful talcum powder mixed with vetiver, vanilla and a touch of tobacco. Would smell so clean and perfect on a man.

I had a long discussion with a representative from Molinard at a perfume show I attended a few years ago. According to her, Habanita is marketed as a unisex fragrance in France and just as many men wear it as women...in France.
