Mint as a fragrance note

Thread Starter
Are there any fragrances (EDT strength) out there which feature mint but don't smell of toothpaste (ex. Le Male)? I really enjoy Aqua Velva and Skin Bracer aftershaves, but have yet to find a longer-lasting counterpart.

Cartier Roadster has a mint vibe going on IMO.

I think it actually is EdP, but Heeley's Menthe Fraiche is my reference mint (and it definitely does not smell like toothpaste... more like fresh spearmint tea). Great stuff and very natural smelling.

+1 on the Heeley. You could also check out Lush Dirty which is inexpensive, distinctive and incredibly long lasting.

It's hard to say any fragrance with mint doesn't "smell like toothpaste" because so many people associate the scent of mint to toothpaste and other oral hygiene products. That said, some of the better mint fragrances out there are;

Frederic Malle Geranium Pour Monsieur
YSL Live Jazz
Lacoste Booster
Heeley Menthe Fraiche
Creed Green Valley

Further votes for Cartier Roadster and YSL Live Jazz

Roadster by Cartier ... a fresh, non-toothpasty mint, really a dark, subdued mint, which duets with a fresh, green fougere ... excellent quality and versatility ... very good sillage and longevity ...

According to Reviews Green Valley by Creed has it.

Geranium pour Monsieur.

Maitre Parfumeur et Gantier's Centaure features mint without it reminding me of toothpaste. Overall it strikes me as fitting in with the "barbershop" fougeres.

YSL Live Jazz, Creed Green Valley, & Creed Selection Verte are all really nice for mint. (Green Valley is discontinued & hard to find though, & S Verte is expensive since it only comes in flacons, or the very few & far between testers). I may bite the bullet though and order a flacon of Selection Verte soon. I've tested it & really love it. It's ashamed that it's not one of Creed's normal scents that's available in smaller sizes.

Roadster by Cartier!

When it comes to mint, IMO, there's Menthe Fraiche, then there's everything else.

Another vote for YSL Live Jazz.

I'll also backup Menthe Fraiche. Doesn't smell like Toothpaste - my initial reaction was "Mint Flowers!"

I own and love Geranium pour Monsieur, but IMO it does start off with a bit of a toothpaste vibe. It's worth it though, stellar fragrance.

Love, love, love Heeley Menthe Fraiche

It might just be my nose but I get a very nice minty note from Dior Bois d'Argent.

You'll never get a consensus on 'the toothpaste thing', but as far as scents that evoke real, fresh, vegetal mint leaves to me I'm voting Geranium Pour Monsieur, Selection Verte along with Herba Fresca & (to a lesser extent, it evolves) Cartier Roadster, both composed by Mathilde Laurent.

Cartier Pasha (a smooth & elegant barbershop smell with nice mint mixed around)
Versace Eau Fraiche (woody, fruity, minty, very appreciated by ladies)
Armani Code Sport (a very good taken of original Code)
Kenneth Cole Black (an incensy-dark mint, woody-aromatic)

-1 to Geranium PM. I like it but it's toothpaste-y. along with Guerlain Herba Fresca.
