Tom Ford's Black Orchid age range?

Hi everyone,

I was looking to purchase my first niche fragrance and happened to try Black Orchid. Do you think the fragrance would be too old for a 21 years old female to wear?

Thanks

Nope, I don't think there is such a thing as a fragrance being too old. Black Orchid is lovely and I've only got a few years on you

Black Orchid is very youthful, my girlfriend and me love the stuff, we wear it with no problems (im 24 and she 21)

Thanks, I have tested and really like the fragrance. However I find it very strong, mature and "elegant". I have asked my friend and she told me it smells like old ladies 0___o (she is 22 by the way)

lf you like it, wear it. Yours is the only opinion that should matter. Your friend is probably jealous of your maturity & elegance.

It can be worn by any age/gender - like any other fragrance.

If I hear something 'smells like old lady' that's usually a sign that I'll love it to bits

Thanks, I was thinking about getting a small bottle tomorrow. Probably a special event/late evening dinner wear (?)

@petruccijc: I do wear and want to own quite a few "male" fragrances

Edit: and I don't want to smell like old lady

Welcome to Basenotes, thebreath! What a fun road to fragrance awareness lies ahead of you. And please, hide your credit card and forget where you put it -- we are all shameless enablers here.

Personally I can't "do" TF Black Orchid -- that fresh cucumber-like and slightly synthetic note ruins the warm and fuzzy idylle for me, but listen, it is you and not me who adores it. Wear it in good health, all right?

With all due respect, I would like to smell like a handful of old ladies -- the list is too long, really! -- those with grace and class.

I don't get the impression of any age range for Black Orchid, and obviously there are some fragrances that are targeted to age ranges, but I don't think this one is. I think it's just a matter of whether or not you can wear Black Orchid. If you love it, wear it. I can't wear it, but I'd enjoy smelling it on someone else. My husband told me it smelled like a men's fragrance when I wore my sample a while back. He doesn't use the term "old lady fragrance" or "grandma fragrance", maybe because he likes those types of fragrances on me (No. 5, Fracas, Shalimar). Enjoy! Don't worry whether or not it is age appropriate.

Black Orchid is not a scent I enjoy but I am all for an individual wearing what smells wonderful on them. No age, no gender, just pure enjoyment.

Life's too short to confine your fragrances to age categories!

I have it. I enjoy it.
Perfumes are genderless and ageless.
Black Orchid is not niche though.

I've never been one to give a damn about other people's opinions to start with, but when someone starts bringing ageism into perfume, that's my clue that they have no idea what they're talking about.

I agree, I don't understand why so many people think it's ok label perfumes like that - I think it's a sign of ignorance. What's so wrong with old ladies, anyway? I think my grandmother is one of the most glamorous people I know. I hope I'm that fabulous when I get older.
