I asked the wife if I could smoke indoors
She said No! No! No!

So I just enjoyed an hour and fifteen with an*ARTURO FUENTE DOUBLE CHATEAU SUNGROWN cigar, Outside. I give it a 90

Out of whiskey but soon... Soon.

Cheers all!

Romeo y Julieta Numero Dos...

One thing I miss about the Tampa area is going down to Ybor for a fresh one rolled right in front of me.

Allowed myself a small glass of Chivas 18 after a long day.

Had a glass of my fave Spanish Brandy Cardenal Mendoza Carta Real last night to go with a rolled Gauloises Beige cig. I know Flor de Selva Petits Cigares would be more stylish to go with, but the mood strikes differently at the moment.

Watched the sun rise with a
Camacho Corojo Churchill natural cigar
From MikesCigars.com in Miami, Fl

A really fine and well made, medium priced stick.

Yesterday morning I had a
Flor de Oliva Churchill cigar
Which was a miraculously great smoke considering the price of $2.00 per stick
From The Tobacco Depot in Clearwater, Fl

After lunch I really enjoyed a
La Aroma de Cuba Mi Amor Magnifico dark natural
Which was superb at $7.50 ea.

This morning a
La Flor Dominicana Air Bender Chisel natural
Save you money!
not a bad smoke but the final 3rd came unwrapped
$8.30 ea.

Slightly off-topic remark: my favorite spirits, with or without tobacco (or coffee, tea, chocolate, desserts etc.) on the side, include

Among cognac: (even if they are rather mass-market, far more than exclusive, elitist cognac manufacturers, in fact, they are the "big five" of this branch) Courvoisier, Hennessy, Remy Martin, Camus, Martell
Among blended scotches: Teachers and JW Black Label
Among single malts: Ben Riach
Among non-cognac brandies: Busnel Calvados, Scharlachberg, Metaxa, Vecchiaromagna

Looking forward to trying J&B Jet scotch, Lheraud cognac, Soberano brandy

Smoked a great cigar this morning. A La Flor Dominicana Double Ligero 660 Natural. Burn your fingers on the nub because you won't want to put it down goodness! $7.25 ea. From www.seriouscigars.com

Cheers!

The wife doesn't let me smoke cigars indoors either but she will put up with the pipe.

Had a great pairing Wednesday night that may have been better than any other cigar spirit I have had.

Drink was a healthy amount of Caol Ila 12 yr Single Malt. Smoked out of my British Racing Green Peterson the tobacco was a concoction of some W.O. Larsen 1864 Blend that I had infused 2 weeks ago with a bit of Old Grandad 112 Bourbon.

Heavenly!

Mmmm Coal Ila's are great

Had some JW Green and Black with a friend - lovely.
Speaking of single malts... Three days ago I opened another one of my hoarded Glen Scotia 14 years bottles. It is one of my absolute favorites, still, after all these years! Am still into the Gauloises beige ('tabac blond') handrolled when treating myself at night.

An after dinner "large" glass of California Orange Muscat Electra wine.

Smoked an Alec Bradley Family Blend robusto today. This would be my desert island first choice.
Tonight is a top quality apple schnapps, matured in oak casks and made from Idared apples only... much in the style of premium Calvados. I might grant myself an extra sip of the Pere Magloire XO afterwards. Smoke? Still the Gauloises...

I went to a Christmas market here and was amazed to see quite some Austrian whisky (partly single malt) being offered. I bought a half-bottle for further testing of a non-single malt (surprising for me!), which was called 3/3 due to the different grain used. I am not often excited about such 'trendy innovations', but this one piqued my interest.
Again the non-smoker nature in me won over, so today I enjoyed some budget bourbon (ok, some might call it low-quality, industrial spirit, nondescript etc., but I actually like it): Western Gold Bourbon - Lidl's dirt cheap house brand - straight up
post #21 of 1180
Bit o Ardbeg Blasda to round off the evening.
Baklava for dessert,
Nivole Moscato d'Asti served chilled.

A glass of Havana Club 15 year on the rocks with a twist of lime.
An almost entirely off-topic recommendation to the Basenotes bons vivants: just discovered that Lindt Excellence dark chocolate with 85% cocoa is the ideal companion of upscale tobacco, but mainly of fine spirits (both belnded and single malt whiskies, brandy, cognac etc.) and of desert wines
post #28 of 1180
A glass of Ipsus Pantelleria Passito desert wine

Couple o'days ago...
EL DORARO 12 y.o. Guyana rum with Cuban Partagas D. No.4 (good robusto).
The drink was quite deep and sweet one (in a Serge Lutens sort of style, you know... in between Chergui and Chene), the smoke itself was well, a Cuban smoke (power woody-animalic), but the couple of them was quite unusual
...say, like woody chypre (out of smoke) with noticeable sweetness (from drink) with character of SL Fumerie Turque.

It's been a nice relax after work.
Regards, Odor.
(well, what a fun it is, trying to describe drinks and smokes through fragrances! )

Yestarday, at the meeting with long-time-not-seen University friends,
MOSCATEL de SETUBAL DOC (Portugal fortified Muscat wine) Colheita 2004 - wonderful mature dessert wine with just perfect balance between fruity-sweetness and woody-bitterness. It's like Serge Lutens would release imaginary Eau-de-... for some of his powerful orientals like Arabie and Chergui. It's very pleasant, it has character but never overpowers the senses, that feature makes this perticular Moscatel fit quite broad variety of unknown tastes.

Nobody was allowed to smoke inside, so I got out for a little walk with some beautiful Costa-Rican corona stogie with maduro wrapper. After first 1/3 the smoke got into a strange dialog with frosty air (-15C), like "drinking smoke with ice"

Regards, Odor.

Wow, Odor, sounds fantastic (apart from the -15 C )!

Graham's Six Grapes Reserve Port - quite full-bodied Port, but not as hearty as LBV.
The only two fragrances that come to my mind concerning Port wines, are Ungaro III and Shiseido Basala. Probably not exactly in the smell itself, but more in solid and sort of syrupy character.
Perfectly blended itself into a tasty smoke of Carlos Torano Exodus 1959 50 Anniversary belicoso.

Regards, Odor.

Feb 23 is a sort of "men's day" in Russia, officially named "Motherland Defender's Day" (celebrated nationwide, everyone has a day off this day). So, on Feb 22 all male colleagues took greetings from lady colleagues at the office and attended small vodka party arranged in there as well.

That way, on Feb 23 itself, attending local cigar club, I couldn't drink anything hard and switched to wine.
It was Protos Roble (Ribera del Duero, Spain) - Tempranillo, 2008 - a wine of character with peppery and leathery undertones.
The smoke of Oliva "V" Churchill Extra made it a festive celebration (though I liked Double Robusto a bit more).

Regards, Odor.

A friend of mine invited me to a rum tasting party.
There was about 5 of the variety: Demerara (El Dorado 12 yo), Martinique (La Mauny VSOP), Cuba (Legendario Elixir de Cuba and Anejo) and one another he intentionally kept secret.
After first step of tasting cigars were allowed... long and pleasant tasting night was nicely spiced with two Cubanas: Hoyo De Monterrey Double Corona and Ramon Allones Gigante.

Regards, Odor.

Had a fresh Bell's Hopslam....this year is AMAZING.

Finishing the evening smoking a pipe with a tin I just picked up Peterson's University Flake.
Smoking my Bjarne Freehand with Peterson University flake using a new pipe loading method for flake tobacco I found on youtube </pipenerd>

Accompanied by a Caol Ila 12 yr single malt. The smoky flavors of the scotch go well with the Latakia in the blend.

Wife thinks it is stinky though.....she likes my more aromatic smokes

A weird combo of Cuban Ramon Allones Gigante (animalic leathery and woods) and Chateau de Beaulon 5 year Ruby Pineau des Charentes (a fine aperitif/dessert wine with a character of ripe fruits and berries) yesterday.
The day before that it was Cuban Vegas Robaina Unicos with some dry oloroso Sherry. Good pair.

Regards, Odor.

5 Vegas Miami Torpedo (turned out to be a kind of bland-peppery smoke) with a deep and hearty Sangiovese red wine from Chile. Not wanting to spoil myself a night, I just had to have another smoke. A small but tasty Flor Real Robusto from Costa Rica was glad to be of help.

Regards, Odor.
