They both are good, however your age may play a big part on your choice. New Harlem if you are younger MR if you are older. IMO

+1 MR if you live in a nursing home.

I assume you have tried both. If not, do so first.

I think New Haarlem is one of the better of the Bond line. I like Musc Ravageur very much and used to own it. Somehow I tired of it as I got to the end of the bottle. Perhaps it lost its freshness? Not sure. I probably should revisit it.

While MR is nice, imo it doesn't have the "wow that you smell good" factor. I never ever gotten a compliment wearing MR. The 3rd time I wore New Haarlem, I got a compliment. I think composition wise, MR is superior but I think New Haarlem smells better.

If a blind buy, New Haarlem I would say is safer, but it is very sweet. MR is very (ahem) animalic.

spend your money on a real fragrance
Musc Ravageur from the options, but i prefer Shalimar over it
post #13 of 39
I own and enjoy MR, but if I had to make the choice now as opposed to three years ago, I'd choose New Haarlem.

Having sampled both within the past couple of days, I much prefer (& intend to purchase) New Haarlem.

I tested only once New Haarlem, but I found it has little lasting power, and little Sillage,
Is it true?

Get both

Very different high quality frags IMHO.

If this question was anything else or New Haarlem, I'd vote anything else.

I think that New Haarlem is easier to wear.

New Haarlem

If you are 60+ years old then at least try MR

Absolutely not true

Both great, but Musc Ravageur hands down

New Haarlem is a great fragrance if you're a hyper-active six year old and allthough I find the smell of clove totally abhorrant MR is winning me over.

Musc Ravageur

MR by a mile.

Neither.

MR smells like baby powder for too long. I've tried to like it having seen so many raving reviews but the lavender/talcum powder smell was just too much. Then there's the clove which can put some off.

New Haarlem is good-- smells like maple syrup pancakes and coffee-- but I just couldn't figure out when/why I'd wear this. Then you look at the price tag (if it were a designer, I might buy it). It's just pleasant, nothing more for me and I didn't find it very wearable.

MR smells good in the late dry down. NH smells good the whole time
post #32 of 39
I've got both of these on my wish list, but if I bought them today I'd be buying blind. Nevertheless, I'm much more curious about MR than New Haarlem...so I'd buy Musc Ravageur.

MR by far!
MR by far! NH is a scrubber to me I can't stand it on my skin.
+1 MR, expensive though
MR, easily.
Musc Ravageur, Just going easy with the application.
Much easier to motivate a full bottle of MR than NH. It's simply more special in my opinion.

Sidenote: Both are created by the same artist, Maurice Roucel.
