Synchronized Fridays 2012 - Page 8

Well I am picking Foustie, one your are a Scot and so is my mother's side of the family. My great grandfather was a devil in a skirt. LOL

Two I have quite a few of your wardrobe in my own. Shalimar Parfum Initial for me. Actually did have a craving for it anyway.
So I will follow by wearing one of the enormous variety of 'fumes in Donna255's
wardrobe :- Le Parfum de Therese.

This has always been a favourite of mine. It has such a good vibe and was composed
by the masterful hand of Roudnitska. I love most of his compositions in fact!
Well I've had a rummage in my samples and I thought I had it... L'artisan, Mure et Musc extreme edp for me out of Fousties wardrobe. Here we go... it's on.

A soft floral musky veil shimmering with a gentle spicy spike, almost green and citrussy too. This has elements of the musk houbigant oils in to me. Very pretty and gentle like their original skin scents. It also has a very overipe berry nuance like a blackberry bush after the rain and the tart green leaves. There are parts of Annick Goutals Charlotte here. But that gentle pretty stage was fleeting, riding rather close to the surface but remaining underneath is something really mucky.

It smells like I am out in the rain picking blackberries and it is late in the season and some are a bit too sweetly overipe, the soil has been stirred up by too many pickers and there is a clean compost heap in the distance. None of this is nasty, it's almost fresh but not quite. There is a naughty dark side to the clean sweet berries.

Quite balanced, like a set of scales yawing from nice to naughty and back again. A morning wrist sniffer. Perfect for a synch day.

I love your description of Mure et Musc ext., Mumsy!
Scent of Tomorrow, Mure Et Musc Extreme!! Mumsy, you make it sound so wonderful. Strange coincidence too. I was sniffing the YSL whateveryoucallthems, you know, the reissued ones, and one of those is a blackcurrant. Is it "Y"? No it's not, I can't remember. It is the truest blackcurrant note. Fabulous to sniff but I wasn't sure that I would want to wear it. But it did make me think about that blackcurrant note. I must confess that I neglect MeM, but no more! It is only a wee bottle. I got it for a song in L'Artisans sale.

Oh and the day that I was looking at the YSL's I bought M7 Oud Absolu. I got a bling bracelet with YSL charms as a "gift" with it!

EDIT; Ha! The YSL is "In love again". I remembered that it was in Alitykes Green Critic Thread just the other day.

Glad you reminded me of this- need to get that bottle out! I've had it for eons, had initially written it off, thought it wasn't Guerlain enough. Then last year I sampled lots of lilac fragrances, all of which were gorgeous if not super exciting. Remembered that Champs Elysees has that butterfly bush note, which is similar to lilac. In fact, I'm guessing that the same aromachemicals are responsible for both lilac and butterfly bush, does anyone know? Anyway, was really coming around to Champs Elysees; my opinion of it went up the more I thought of it as simply a pretty floral. Think we'll continue to become better friends now, it really is lovely. How Turin could call such a dainty, delicate, pretty little thing "crass" is beyond me.

Thank you for the info.....I will join in.
Currently I only have one from this list....not sharing til Friday!
Used to own VW Boudoir though...
i'll be wearing euphoria. thanks for that list bonsai
post #436 of 1213
Thanks for the informative list Looks like I have JPG Classique and Gaultier 2 + Crystal Noir to choose from in my wardrobe. I might go for Gaultier" since I haven't worn it in ages!
Boucheron Jaipur... slammed? I wonder why. I think it's lovely, so I shall wear it in defiance.

Oops just relooked and it's sapir...

but Coty Emeraude is there and I love that one...
Dedication beyond the call there Bonsai - thanks. So many panned frags and so little time!! Looks like Chanel Gardenia or Amarige for me - maybe I'll go with both, one on each wrist. Or Fig Tea by PdN - I quite like that one.

The list has been completed.

I think Octavian Coifan from 1000 fragrances might be LT and TS's evil fragrance twin. LT/TS seem to hate Mona di Orio and Oliver Durbano - two perfumers that Octavian highly appreciates.

I'll either go with one of the Mona di Orio-s, Durbano-s or Kingdom, Trouble or Hiris.
I have quite a few on the list mainly the Carons.
Well, obviously, I will be wearing Caron French Can Can. It is from the Paris urns and that may make the difference. Of course, LT tried everything on paper, not developed on skin, so I was not impressed with his opinions.
Synch Friday virgin here. I can choose between Flowerbomb, Nanette Lepore, Champs-Elysee, Vent Vert and Creed Irisia. I might just pick more than 1!
I have 2 in my wardrobe and 2 samples. Thinking a first try of Mona's Carnation as a change from the chypres

Very much agree with you, kumquat. Mona di Orio's Signature line was really made to bloom on skin. If you spray them on paper or clothes you're not going to be able to appreciate them.

Thanks for pointing that out, too, Bonsai. His review of Mona's perfumes was a travesty and an embarrassment. He should be ashamed for that. I also can't believe his idiotic praise for Beyond Paradise. It just shows that we all need to make up our own minds and not be fooled when the Emperor buys new clothes.
I like Guerlain Champs Elysées just fine; the Turin/Sanchez gruesome twosome can kiss my ass, a cheek apiece.
Jujy, I'll be your twin; you got me craving Champs Elysees last week.

Well, listen, I know it's no Tommy Girl but how could I expect a lowly little Guerlain to hold up against the artistry going on at the house of Hilfiger?
Aha the list has been expanded,
Turns out I know own 3 from the list and a sample of another ( didn't actually ask for that sample though, so maybe that's the one I should try out? )

So my choices are
Bond no 9: new York fling - I really like this one, and refuse to be bowed. Ok it's not a masterpiece but I find it great when the weather is too hot for anything else. In fact it's my second bottle! Absolutely no longevity though. Diddly squat. Still don't care, I still like it. Refreshing.

Michael: Michael kors. I never really reach for this so I guess it's not a personal fav

AA : Pivoine Magnifica. I really want a peony fragrance and this is what I got. Also don't mind this in the heat - although would not want to replace this one....maybe if I could find another peony though!

Sample of Guerlain: Purple fantasy, was given this when I bought Liu. Never tried this yet - looks like Friday is the perfect time to dig this sample out.

What a cool idea, look forward to discussing with you all on Friday.

We look forward to having you! And welcome to RingER! We learn a lot on Fridays but not without also having loads of fun (we have our priorities straight!). More is definitely merrier!
See "The Friday Synch makes you think"!

Well that was interesting reading that list. I have the book and I enjoy it but I certainly don't agree that some of these are "one star" fragrances, Tabac Blond! Hermes Hiris! I know that they have given some of these fragrances one star because of reformulation, but still, there are some good fragrances in there. Anyway, dissent is always a good thing. There are a couple of modern designer ones too that I wouldn't dismiss; Dolce and Gabbana Light Blue did really well and still does, and Vivienne Westwoods Boudoir is quite interesting. What do we think gang?

Anyway, I don't have ANY of the fragrances on the list, although I wouldn't mind a few of them. BUT I do have samples of a couple. I have a beautiful Tabac Blonde Extrait, which I would not dream of insulting by wearing it on the one star day. I have a sample of Chanel Gardenia. I will have another think.

See you all tomorrow.

Bonsai - thanks for the very helpful list !
Well I have a few 1 star frags ! *LOL* Yay !
Vivienne Westwoods boudoir is very nice. Well constructed, with excellent longevity and true to its intention. I'm surprised at it being a one star.

So am I. It is really well-done fragrance with a nice warm animalic edge. Also agree with Foustie that Hiris (and even Light Blue) would deserve better. Sadly I have never tried Tabac Blond so no comments on that.

I am personally glad that I never read the guide, although I do appreciate that it is supposedly humorous.
I have a decant of Chanel Gardenia that Mimi Gardenia sent me a while back. Maybe I'll wear that. It doesn't smell like gardenia, but it's very pretty and it's the kind of thing I enjoy lately. I actually agree with many of their opinions, though not all. I love Champs Elysees and Vera Wang Princess. If I had either of those I'd wear it.

Sorry couldn't resist a little mucking about, but seriously, i am really looking forward to joining in and thanks PerfumedLady for a nice inclusive welcome.

It is great to pick up so many ideas here, and try new things and add even more to try to the list.

I enjoyed VW Boudoir but there was something in the top that felt slightly sharp or sour on me but nothing enough to stop me finishing the bottle. Didn't replace it though. fickle and moved on to the next new thing!

See you all tomorrow.

Thanks for the list bonsai! I wore Hiris last year, and I suppose I could start a tradition of annually flipping off L and S about a favorite of mine. Or, I have samples of about 4 - 5 of these that I have never tried. Always exciting to blind wear a fragrance to work - especially if it is a lowly 1 star

I'll think further tonight and decide in the morning!

Oh Fleurine you simply must pick up the cheaper paperback version and give it a read (or in NYC perhaps the public library has it?). It is FUN! And inspires some great posts here, too.

I can't find my book now. But , what was the Giorgio quote? I always hated that one anyway. My MIL wore a ton of it and it was awful. Turin's comment was pretty funny, I think.
I have Eau de Shalimar and Secret Obsession. I guess I'll be choosing from those two.
I have picked my synching poison, so to speak: Going with Dior Midnight Poison and will wear it all day and roll around in it, revel in it, bow to it, worship it, lick my arm, and shake my hips.

This may scare the neighbors.

I do not care and hope they smell me.

Uh-oh.
I don't know what to wear!!
I think that between samples and bottles I have 30-40 options!
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG GGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well as I said mine is a Caron, I have to say I have all those mentioned apart from Miss Rocaille(I don't like it. One of the very few Caron's I don't!).

Okay mine are older versions of those listed but I do still feel outrage on their behalf.

I'm in Orio today - Luca deserves a kick in the butt for giving it only one star.
Fig Tea by PdN. And I quote (Tania): "Fruit nightmare. When I smelled Fig Tea years ago at New London Pharmacy in New York, I staggered away spitting curses".

Well, it's not that bad, but certainly more grapefruit pepper than fig tea, with a plasticky note lurking in the base. Reminiscent of Eau des Merveilles, but not as good. Have a feeling it won't stick around long, so may dig out my vintage Amarige for later - that will be fun!
Purple Fantasy: Guerlain

from a sample (thankfully). This is not for me.
Very sour out that vial onto skin and slightly unpleasant to me because of it, not dissimilar to the opening of Black Violet - But I love that one - that's like sour and sweetened by the violet at the same time, whereas this one was just sour and offputting to me and I don't get violets or anything 'purple' in fact.

After a short time though it's warmed into an apricot, but it's not going to redeem it for me.

I am with the 1-star on this and I am not neing a star-snob because going by the list very kindly transcribed by bonsai and comparing to my wardrobe past and present 'I have no taste!'
I'm covered in reformulated Diorling, but I'm going for Boudoir because I will need some smut after this. I may even layer it on one arm.

(Very nice layered)
Ooops I think I subconciously forgot this synch on purpose - I already dowsed myself with Ciuri Ciuri by Gianni Campangna (which is by the way breathtakingly beautiful!). My only options for this synch were: Miel de Bois SL, or Méchant Loup L'Artisan. Both are samples I do not care for much...I will consider wearing one of them in the next few days (after all - part of the fun for me is to revisit stuff I had already checked off as uninteresting). But for today I will enjoy my Sicilian flowers!

lol, I actually really like Midnight Poison, but I am out of synch today because I have been seduced by Fracas and she won't let go yet. Nice little vignette, KarmaLee
