Aramis New West vs Acqua Di Gio

What is better? Don't try to factor in price and popularity since I know Acqua Di Gio is obviously too mainstream. I just want to smell nice.

I'm not really sure what I'm looking for, but I feel like it's something of their sort. I'm going to have to go off of a blind buy for both so please try to be descriptive for reasoning!

thanks!

Acqua Di Gio

What made you choose these two as possible blind buys?

I have yet to hear anything bad about Aramis New West, but I feel like the Acqua di Gio would be more of a safe choice due to popularity.

It doesn't seem like you really care, you just want to smell nice. I think New West is the better scent, but AdG is probably the safer (yet boring) choice. AdG is available in just about every department store out there, so you should sample it first and see if you really like it.

You can never go wrong with Acqua Di Gio. I have yet to meet somebody that doesn't like it.

Gio all the way!!!

Come up north for the winter and you will meet some who can't stand this fragrance

Uh, New West.

This is basically like comparing the Sex Pistols to Creed.

Why does a former English punk band have to be compared to a former English based fragra......Ooooooh !!! I see now how you mean

On the other hand, Scott Stapp ( is that the Creed lead singers name ?) was part of the onslaught of emo driven rock music. So yes, I guess it is like comparing the Sex Pistols to Creed ( this, despite my dislike for Johnny Rotten).

Aramis New West for him is far better.

Somebody here - New West is vastly superior.

I'm not trying to hijack your thread, but you can just smell "good" for a whole lot less, if you're going for that clean/fresh appeal.

I'll plug my favorites.....all of which are pretty safe and don't contain that weird chemical ingredient I hate called "calone". To me (and many others), it goes sour and smells like laundry detergent or shampoo.

- Aqua Quorum is $15 on Ebay. It smells like Polo Sport in the beginning, and CK Eternity the rest of the way.

- Jacomo Deep Blue is around $20 on Ebay. This one smells similar to Cool Water, but better IMO.

- Aspen can also be had for around $15 on Ebay. This is another one that smells similar to Cool Water, and has a green/coniferous aspect to it.

You can get all 3 of these for the price of 1 of the others. Nice to have variety to mix things up a little.

Ok, so they are both aquatics, but they are so different I wouldn't compare them. Which one you would like best comes down to which of the notes apart from the aquatic notes in these 2 that you like best.

New West is kind of an aquatic Cartier Pasha, mint and evergreen wood notes.
AdG is aquatic Sour Melons...

I don't like Aqua di Gio at all but do like Aramis New West a lot. Plus the good memories from my trip to US's West Coast in 2004 when i bought my first New West bottle from L.A. , they make this fragrance very special one to me. (At that time, i think it was quite impossible to find in Europe.) Aqua di Gio is simply smelling worse to my nose.

Now, you know three people who dislike it...

If you want to make a firm statement - "Nobody here - but if you do notice my scent, I'm sorry" - go for Aqua di Gio.

New West may not be to everybody's liking, but it does make a statement (as do most Aramis scents) - "Man here".

Anyhow, those are my thoughts, coming from someone who'd place ADG last on any list of watery/aquatic scents

Renato

I had to get my refreshed dose of New West today, and I have to reevaluate my opinion on this one. Aramis is normally not my ideal fragrace house, but they've sure done it here! For how cheap of a fragrance this one is, they've done a superb job!

I absolutely do not like AdG and I can't pin down why, other than a few of my co-workers used to wear it to the extreme. There is a note that makes my nose cringe. New West is an interesting and pleasant scent, but I would try it before buying it.
