My circadian clock is on the blink

Is it just me, or do others in this part of the hemisphere think that even our short winter days seem even shorter than usual this year? I sleep under a skylight , so I wake to the sun every morning and my circadian clock is totally bonkers. I don't recall it being this noticeable before.

If we were to sleep under a skylight we'd wake up baked and charred Rene lol.

Sorry no idea about your clock.

I wouldn't doubt it, but I think I have S.A.D., so my perception is likely skewed.

I don't sense anything strange happening differently this year, but that's just me.

I may be getting more sensitive to light as I "mature." I spoke to a friend yesterday who says she goes to a tanning salon a few times around the winter solstice just to get a hit of UV rays and that it makes her feel remarkably energized. I am making a more conscious effort to be out in the sunlight...at least we are past the solstice and the days are gradually getting longer.

I actually find myself waking up a tad earlier now that we've gone past the winter solstice. For a while there I was sleeping like a hibernating bear, and I had a hard time getting up in the morning. I suppose it is my imagination that the sun is rising a bit earlier now(?). The thing I like about Virginia is that even though it can get cold, we have a lot of days of sunshine, compared to New York where it seemed winter was sooo long and dreary, with one gray day after another.

I too have the feeling that winter days are getting longer, for some reason, I barely make it to wake up during daylight this time of the year

Why yes! NASA agrees with you.

NASA: Japan quake shortened Earth’s day, shifted axis

Ken_Russell, it looks like you and I are on a different circadian rhythm!

rtamara, I know what you mean all too well - I'm not a big fan of winter/snow , haven't been since I was about 12! but it's really the short days that get me. It seems that after Halloween everything is kind of downhill, the time change and all, and suddenly it's so dark! Every year I say to myself, this year I'll do something that will change my attitude towards the short days, but it's never really worked. But then it's the Holiday season, and I kind of forget about it a bit. Still, living in the somewhat far north, as I do, it's just part of life. I was hoping someone from Scandinavia etc., would pop in on this thread and give their two cents as well, but don't see anyone yet. But on the upside, it certainly is getting a bit lighter each day now, and I love looking forward to the great long days of spring - June. Hardly any night!

Renee this year in particular I noticed the daylight hours becoming less and less as December 21 loomed closer and closer. I remember saying such to my employees and family as far back as early November. I cannot explain it either.

thanks for all your replies, everybody...Aiona, your NASA post made me feel somewhat affirmed, then I read that the change is measured in mere milliseconds, which seems so tiny...IngaM, especially up in Canada, I would guess you feel it more...I lived in Alaska for about a year, waaaaaaaaaaay back when, and I remember the remarkable contrast between winter and summer. The sun would set at 10 pm in Anchorage midsummer, and I was in Point Barrow one January where the sun only rose for about 40 minutes total! I felt like I was walking on the moon for the ten days I was there.
kbe, sunset is around 4 pm these days, which just seems really wrong
Today is a brilliantly sunny day here, but diamond hard ice cold and the best I can do right now is sit near a window - not willing to step outside just yet....brrrr...
This is really the first winter that I think I am affected so markedly. Sounds like y'all know what i mean.

Renee, sweetie, I blame the Mitsouko

Ah, yes, Mike, I could see how the power of Mitsouko could nudge the earth off it's appointed axis, indeed. Adding this to the list of hypotheses.
