Welcome to 2012 !!

I'm wearing Patou Que sais-je? today and find this makes a proper 2012 motto.

Best to all for a smooth start in the new year!

After a new year's jog in the park it's Un Jardin Sur le Nil for me: fresh, citrussy and full of good intentions!
Happy 2012, everybody!

Happy New Year Everyone !

Ungaro II today. Travelling back to London after 10 days away. It has been wonderful to relax a little and spend time with family and friends. Equally though, it will be nice to get back to a routine ( creature of habit that I am).

Hope everyone is well.
Welcome ExpectingRain!

Good morning everyone and Happy New Year !.

SotD is Roja Dove Danger PH (sample).

Off to see the Royal Philarmonic later today performing a special New Year programme that sounds potentially great IMO -

Mendelssohn Hebrides Overture 'Fingal’s Cave'
Grieg Peer Gynt Suite No 1
Bruch Violin Concerto No 1
Dvorak Symphony No 9 'From The New World'

Will have to decide on an appropriate SotE later.

Welcome aboard ExpectingRain
Happy New Year!
My first SotD was adrenaline, my neighbor's too cute chiwawa ran off at 8 oçlock, scared of the fire works already being fired and we have been spending a couple of hours scouring for the little git, I have been sitting on my knees looking under every car in every street, but there are so many places a little rat like that can hide!
And as it was very quiet I went out again between 10 and 11, but didn't find it.
So at two and three we went out to search for it, and while we were talking in front of the door, quarter to 4, the chiwawa came tripping along!
Finally I could go to bed....

And I had planned to go to sleep at half past 12, get up at 8, and be the first up at basenotes and start the first SotD of 2012!

Oh yes, Sotd is Balmain de Balmain, pure perfume.
Happy New Year! Here's hoping 2012 treats you all well.

Ormonde Woman for me today.

Welcome to ExpectingRain!
Good morning to the world that's a year older, wiser and kinder.

Warum, all in red and her new cat learning how to grow vegetables, good morning to you too.

Leesee, have you had a chance to read what I explained about your decant?

I had to work last night and came home late, we each got a shot a something tasty, slept like babies. Balmain de Balmain, together with FrouFrou, mine is regular modern EdT but festive anyway. No blackeyed peas here, we will have some baked salmon, pomegranates and spinakopita.
Good morning. Today is Datura Blanche- nothing at all to do with good intentions, LOL. More dreamy and indolent. But very beautiful.

Twolf, I am shocked! Shocked! No black-eyed peas? your dinner sounds wonderful though.

We will have black-eyed peas here, mixed with potatoes, kale or collard greens, onion, garlic, olive oil, salt and pepper. Sort of cook everything separately and mix at the end. This is one of those simple but magical combinations, not just luck and money all in one bowl but exceptionally good tasting.

Hello all. Vol de Nuit edt 1990s vintage.
Wow it's been a year since i saw you people! Heh heh silly right? Lol Thats what my father in law said to my wife and I as we walked in after having returned from our NYE dinner.

About 10 to 12 sprays of N'aimez Que Mois Parfum extrait. A bit too much projection.it's nice that the Caon boutique here has the extract in either dab form or spray form. I used the spray.

Starting my year off nice and easy with a sample of Idole edp by Lubin
and sharing a photo of the top of my perfume cabinet as it appears this first morning of 2012:

[IMG][/IMG]

this is an old jewelry armoire that was gifted to me recently by a childhood sweetheart who remains a good friend - I am enjoying it immensely. will post some interior pictures sometime.
The redhead is an image of a Modigliani painting that is part of the Barnes Foundation in Pennsylvania and used to hang in what I affectionately called the "floozy room"
small oil on paper by hubby, butterfly card from Frou Frou , shell from the ocean... Happy New Year, lovies! I want to get me some black eyed peas!

Happy New Year, everyone!

Warum, I loved the picture of your cat yesterday, what's his name?
Jon, thank you for the music this morning. Your concert sounds amazing, I hope you
have a wonderful time.
Welcome ExpectingRain!!!
FrouFrou, what an exasperating way to start the new year. Glad you found the little guy.

Joining Tdem1961 in vintage Shalimar Parfum for my SotD.

Why, here's that sample of Lubin Idole edp now:
Thank goddess the sun is shining today!

I am wearing First (parfum) but since the weather's hot and I'm about to exercise a bit, I will switch to something fresher later (Cristalle most likely)
Have a great year!

Hello, 2012. I meet you wearing Guerlain Djedi (ZHEH-dee): minerals, sweet earth and smoke-charred roots, one of the most expensive fragrance experiences available, put in my hands by lifetime friend and BNer Brielle. (I should write to her. It's on the list.) Djedi takes me quickly to a comfort place which I otherwise access a little more slowly via Creed Aubepine Acacia.

Thank you for the e-concert, Jon.
Leesee, speak Buffy-ease often, please; it's inventively useful.
FrouFrou, I love your animal-caring heart.
Larimar, my beverage adviser, the half-marathon event ran out of the true champagne, so daughter and husband brought home bottles of Fre de-alcoholed champagne, which is okay. Am suffering no ill after-effects.
Warum, your kitty looks a lot like ours, which may indicate a big eater.
Welcome, ExpectingRain.
Hugs to all.
. . . . .
Update: Wonderful art and scenes, rtamara. Maybe they especially speak to me because I have the pleasure of really knowing you. Kisses, dear one.

Pierre Balmain-
Miss Balmain

Hot, rushing leather and galbanum;
a swirl of satin and she's gone.
Who was that stunning blond over there by the fire?

The heart pounds as the furs are too warm.
Everyone wants a cocktail.
The cats snuggle on the sofa and enjoy
the amusing conversation.

A leather-floral-woody chypre with green top notes,
heart notes of jasmine, lily of the valley, rose de France, jonquil and narcissus
base notes of musk, patchouli, vetiver, amber and oak moss.

Good Evening,

A visual feast again today. How I love these SotD threads!

Jon - hope you enjoyed the music. Sounds like a wonderful concert.
rtamara41 - beatiful pictures. Modigliani is a particular favourite of mine.
kumquat - my knees are all a jelly tonight.

Now that I'm once again installed in my London flat, I'm kicking back in some l'heure bleue
(parfum).

Take care, all.

Happy New Year!!!

I ended 2011 wearing Stephen Jones and will begin 2012 wearing......Stephen Jones!

Aw…FrouFrou, I’m glad the little guy came back home. My dog hates fireworks, too. She jumps up on the bed with us and trembles.

We had our black eyed peas. I made a pecan pie, too, that is sooooo sweet it would curl your teeth.

Rtamara, I love your perfume cabinet! Your hubby is talented, that looks like a lovely painting. And I love Modigliani, too. That is something I’d like to do in 2012, work on a perfume cabinet. But I want to paint or decoupage mine into a perfume shrine…though that will probably wind up looking very tacky.

Warum, you do indeed have an adorable cat with a sweet face.

I’m wearing Jo Malone Vanilla & Anise from early this morning.

Wishing everyone all good things in 2012.

Oh, goodness, yes. There's only one thing to compare -- sunflower pie. A native-plant botanist friend published a cookbook using plants you can collect from the wild (native and non) and those original to the U.S. Using sunflower seeds with a pecan pie-like recipe produces a teeth-curling pie even denser and fattier than the pecan version, plus the surfaces and spaces between all the sunflower seeds allows for more sugary filling.

So, you're starting off the year eating sugar? Good for you!
Happy New (perfumed) Year to one and all!!

I have started 2012 with Nirmala by Molinard.
I applied it at 10.00 a.m. (got up late) and I can still
smell it now at 20.15. That's good longevity in my book.
lilybelle, I made a macadamia nut pie for our family dinner yesterday. It has that same sweetness and I actually use the very same pecan pie recipe. It is really sweet, even for my notorious sweet tooth!

Loving your lyrical homage, kumquat!

thanks for the nice comments on the photos, I was feeling particularly cozy this morning, and was hoping to get that across to you all...

I want to join in to welcome Expecting Rain - your name makes me want to have you sample Quand Vient La Pluie (when the rain comes!) Do you enjoy the house of Guerlain?

Mike, I quite like the Idole - and reapplied midmorning to my initially timid dabs - I am getting incense and rum- it reminds me a bit of Arabie but no where near as sweet, the bottle is elegant, have you seen it?

lilybelle, I am enjoying the perfume cabinet, it has helped me to consolidate all my fragrances, bottles, samples and decants, in an orderly way, away from sunlight, and gives them a place of honor. thank you for your nice comment about the painting. it has a lot of movement and energy that does not translate in the photo.

Quarry and lilybelle - I see a pecan pie in my future....thank you for the inspiration

Evangeline: Geaux Saints! Oui!

Wow, sunflower seed pie. That sounds intriguing. Macadamia nut pie. I'm getting ideas here. I imagine pinoli would be good, too. I once made a walnut maple pie similar to pecan pie. That was very good. Yes, starting the new year off on a sugar overdose, but I'm not planning to continue. It's just a holiday wrap up and then back on the wagon, starting tomorrow with my 10:00 gym appointment with the trainer. I'm having a cup of peppermint tea now to cut through the sugar.

rtamara, I made the pecan pie with a can of Steen's Cane Syrup that I brought back with me from Louisiana last month. I'd forgotten about the liquid limitations for carry-on luggage, but after scolding me the security lady let me keep it, shaking her head at me.

SotA is Annick Goutal Musc Nomade. This was a very nice discovery for me in 2011. I don't know the actual release date.

Happy New Year

I was in Glamour Moschino all the day ....
i sprayed Carolina Herrera 212 before a while and this will be my bed time scent ....within 20 minutes the first day of new Year will be over ..

My SOTD is Guerlain Vetiver (vintage).

Another Welcome for ExpectingRain
Jon Mendelssohn Hebrides Overture 'Fingals Cave' is one of my favorite pieces of music

Went to bed at 3 am and up at 11:30 am, so I got my full sleep quota, unlike dear heart Frou Frou..What a great neighbor you are to go play "chase the chihuahua" for half the night. Glad the little git showed up safe and sound.

Lolita Lempicka Fleur de Corail is my choice today. It's a warm sunny clear day in CA. We've had heavy fog for a few days which has burned off to a lovely start of a new year.

I have a confession- I do not ever recall eating black eyed peas in my lifetime. Must rectify. Robin in FL 's description sounds delish!
Enjoy what is left of the weekend, all! I am already getting uptight about returning to work tomorrow after 10 glorious days off.....I know, I know, I'm lucky I have a job etc....
Welcome to BN, ExpectingRain!

Quarry, I am glad you appreciated the Buffy-speak. I'll try to remember to oblige when possible.

Twolf, I just read your explanation on the old thread. To paraphrase what you said, I have to agree -- what a wonderful example of how BN spreads the love. This is a great place to be!

I ended up wearing Reminiscence Arabesque last night, which I can still smell it as I type this. It is a tenacious little devil, so I guess it qualifies as today's scent as well.

I will be eating some beans and greens today along with chipotle-spiced vegan sausages and baked yams. I hope everyone is doing well, dining well, and enjoying themselves.

Happy New Year, and take care, all.

Happy 2012, Fragrant Friends! I am wearing my scent locket with Nahema from last night. What a great way to enjoy scent for a long time. What an uninterrupted experience. What a joy of a fragrance.

Welcome, ExpectingRain and PrincessCaro!

What a nice thing to say about the 2012, Wolfie. I love your thoughtfulness. Always did, always will.
New cat loves the vegetables! (just kidding). The book on vegetables was a present to Mr.W, a BIG gardener.

Robin, Rob, Robby. For Robin Hood, for Rob Roy...
Quarry, this cat doesn't seem to love food the way his pal, our older kitty Yascha, does. He leaves his canned food after eating a little, but he's a runner, a chaser and a very playful bandit. Hence the name.

Thanks! He is a sweetie. And our kitty needed a companion after having lost his little friend in April of 2011. Now they are chasing each other around the house and meowing loudly

I loved it too, and your samples card too! Did you make any New year resolutions concerning samples? Last year I got a CD/DVD cabinet which I use as a perfume cabinet and I am loving it.

A relatively generic and tedious amber. Not bad if you don't know any better, but that could be said about hundreds of them.

Oh, what a great start to the New Year this thread has been!

I ate black eyed peas cooked with a leftover ham bone from Christmas dinner. And cornbread (a southern tradition). Yum.

And it all tasted great with Chanel Coromandel, to start off the new year with an old favorite.

Happy New Year to all my BNers. A lovely group to share the new year with.

Hedonist, I have just re-read your post: 10-12 spays of Caron in a perfume concentration? Wow, now I guess you are not going to take a bath until 2013, you are all set smelling nice and not dandy. Good, excellent choice though. Does Mrs.H. like it at all? Get some for her while you can, I heard (well, never mind what I have heard).....

A warm welcome to Expecting Rain.

I had a headache today, so no perfume for me. I think I just don't want to go back to work tomorrow. I hear you knit at nite...we are even sharing similar weather. After several days of fog, today it was gorgeous and warm. It was 70 degrees around 11:00am.
