Anyone else love the opening of Musc Ravageur?

I have noticed that a lot of people do not like the opening of this fragrance, but love the dry down. I actually LOVE the opening, I love that musky smell, it's actually my favorite part of the fragrance. Anyone else feel the same?

There is nothing I do not like about this fragrance. A great one.
I don't mind it at all. It is part of the whole Ravageur experience.
Love it from start to finish.
I love the opening more than the drydown.
Just got this about a month ago. Didnt like it at first. The more and more I wear, the better the opening becomes. I agree that it's all part of the whole experience - dont think it would be as highly revered without its beautiful, distinctive opening. True masterpiece!!

I love almost too much!

I actually bought Méharées because of that, and it is worlds apart. Gonna trade it away.

I think I am the only person that does not care for this fragrance. Maybe I need to give it another try.

Love it from opening to dry down.

It was predictable.

More in the camp "like opening, love drydown"
I hate the opening, love the drydown. Maybe with time that will change. Not a big fan of heavy musk.
I love the whole spectrum, from opening-middle-dry down. My most "fun" fragrance to wear.

Love everything about it.

Like it. Opening of Cinnamon, clove and musk. Milk chocolate drydown. It's a winner.

Wasn't wowed by the opening when I wore it, but that was a while ago, so I'll have to give it another shot sometime soon.

A fragrance with a linear version of MR's beginning would be fantastic. Anyone got any tips?

It smells like a Cinnabon store.

Definitely likable, though I'm not drawn to own it.

+1. My feelings exactly. I bought my bottle blind and when I received my package containing it, I tore it open as I was getting onto the elevator in my building. There happened to be two beautiful girls in the elevator with me and I took the bottle, sprayed it on my wrist and then asked them their opinion. They really were taken by Musc Ravageur!!!

The thing I love about this scent is that it's a confidence builder for me. Sometimes I'm getting ready to go somewhere and I look at Musc Ravageur and think "I don't know... I love this one, but I don't know if I've got what it takes to pull it off today."

But much like the way Captain Morgan ads show people drinking Captain Morgan and turning into pirates, I always feel that Musc Ravageur turns me into a stereotypical cliché of a Frenchman all the way-- and I love it. I have fun walking around like an over-the-top Pepé Le Pew. It's not my usual Modus Operandi, but I find Musc Ravageur helps me make that occasional cameo as the Danielle Steele cover model guy who is always two seconds from ripping off his shirt.

It's a relatively banal extended drydown, some civet and animalic musk would give it a lot more character (among other things). And the possibility of using quantities of real Mysore sandalwood (it's restricted) would have also given it far more complexity. Hard for gaiac wood to make up for it even though I love gaiac wood.

But yeah, I love the first thirty minutes, and I like the fragrance a lot. Oh_Hedgehog's description of MR as a "Jicky Mousse" is a great one.

Love to use it as a room spray as well (spray it on the bed mainly, smells great). It's been my girlfriend's favorite fragrance to wear for years, and I definitely like to wear it, too. It's great with a little cigarette smoke on top.

Amazing fragrance! It is my scent of the day. It is true that is a very polarizing fragrance. Some women have loved the fragrance while others have found it to be too much. I have been a huge fan of this fragrance since the first time I sampled it up until now. I usually do not like heavy musk fragrances but this one is a winner IMHO!

Yes!! I LOVE MR from top to the drydown!

Glad to see that I'm not the only one. All these fragrances are going to drive me to the poor house

I wore this for the first time in probably years. Never loved it. But today I realize it's something special, especially the opening. Truly great stuff. I've purchased a lot of bottles over the last six years, since I really got into fragrance. And it always amazes me how my tastes evolve. Many times, I've put a bottle on the shelf thinking it was just okay only to take it down at some later date and think I must have been crazy the first time or two I tried it. Same thing has happened in reverse unfortunately. It's one of the reasons I'm reluctant to sell fragrances I'm not crazy about -- give it some time and I may come around.

mmmh, I reveived a free MR sample along with my VE Sample I ordered.
I tried the MR and had to wash it away immediately. It was too sweet and to overwhelming.

Even after i washed it away i still could smell the cinnamon & vanilla on my wrist.
What else is there in MR? Did I miss something ?

IMO not what a man is supposed to smell like
post #37 of 52
I like the WHOLE thing! Great fragrance!!
At first I wasn't too crazy about the opening but now I love it, this one takes you on quite a journey, I get chocolate and vanilla I'm the drydown with a hint of musk. An absolute masterpiece...
i man should not smell like sweet vanilla and chocolate

I am also curious about this. Any ideas?

At first, in my younger introduction to niche fragrances, I hated it. Found it to be offensively bad. HOWEVER, after some time, and smelling 100's more niche scents...I am growing to love it more and more. It's a masterpiece. And like art, it often takes a measure of maturity and age to appreciate the finer things.

Musc Ravageur is one of lifes finer things.

Believe it!
Worship the beginning, but I'm very unsure about the dry down. I really don't want to smell that sweet and vanilla'ish, and this is really bothering me and what's been stopping me from getting a bottle. I might still pull the trigger, but I'm really unsure. I've yet to meet ANYONE that actually liked the sweet vanilla dry down on me :/ Especially girls seem to recoil in horror when I've wore a sample or stolen a spray from a friend. Ho-hum ...

Great frag from top to bottom, totally luv it.
Yes love it! The midnotes where the clove comes in is a little too much for me..but overall an amazing fragrance...
Initially I didn't care for the opening. Tried it about a year later, and loved every second of it.

Im not gonna lie , when i first tried this i expected the opening to be harsh because of all the talk it gets about the opening and to wait for the drydown etc... When i first sniffed it, i had to check my sample and make sure they sent me the right one. There was nothing harsh at all about the opening to me. It smelled pleasant. Maybe its just my nose, but i dont understand why people say "once you get past the opening, then youll love it"

If anyone feels this way about MR, give Mazzolari Lui a try. It's the Hulk versus MR's David Banner.
God no. Why would anyone want to smell like cat pee?

Great from start to finish, but I like the Drydown the best. Less is more with this one.
