"smellythoughts" my amateur reviews...

Hi!
Literally just set this up today.
I've never blogged before, I hate social networking, so this is really for myself, I like to write and share my opinions, and I love talking about perfume of course.
I haven't got a trained nose and I don't want to come across like I really know what I'm talking about :') but, i'm learning!!
What do you think so far?
Do I have potential?

smellythoughts

I know I know it's so basic so far, and far from being original. I hope to consistently work on it to explore things and try and get my own opinions on things across to myself. I sample so so much and I don't want to forget my thoughts on things.

Very nicely done.

Your blog looks very polished and should do quite well. I appreciated the review of the two Tauer fragrances as I have been considering both of them as future purchases. I will definitely refer to it again. Good luck with it!

Thanks so much for the kind words guys really appreciate that!
I'll be updating it most weekdays, it's crazy how many views you lose by not updating. Got lots more interesting things to put on there so lookin forward to that. It's helping me greatly with note identification and such
In regards to the Tauer's, yes they're both amazing to me, underrated too. I can't wait to own one.

Thank you!
I'll add a link to my signature when I've at least doubled my content ( hopefully by the end of the week if I work hard and my nose can handle it :P ), thanks for the idea!

The blog is finally starting to bulk out and with a hugeeee batch of samples on it's way to me it's gonna get more and more interesting.
Feeling rather chuffed with myself, even with my less than 40 view a day average Lol

mumsy: probably the sweetest lady on basenotes. Thank you Fran <3

Thankfully I have a ton of new samples - my work has become desperately unfrequent recently! My views have slowly fell to the pits of hell haha, I'm sure it's just me refreshing the page :')

First ever video

Should I not waste my time with YouTube and stick solely to the blog?

Great, video, you should definitely keep going!

I like the fact that it was fast and to the point. Many reviewers seem to go around and around repeating things or adding irrelevant material. I think that the more concise and quick, the better. Here you talked about several frags and said the main point about each of them. My favorite reviewer is indeed Katie Puckrik, who was a professional presenter after all and so she knows her lesson about rhythm and speed.

I personally prefer shorter videos, who has the time of paying attention for 10 minutes? Rather break in pieces, or better, try to condense even more, eliminating all repetitions and nonnecessary words, and speaking fast (there is a reason why news anchors speak fast). this of course may require scripting (again, news anchors ... ), which is time consuming, but well worth it.

Cheers cacio.
Yeh I pretty much did it without any cutting which was a bad idea - I'm no pro with video editing so though I'd rather have a long first video than one with bad, choppy editing.
I'll be sure to brush up the time on any next ones or if I re-record this.

I reckon treating it like an essay would be useful. Take a transcript and draw a line through any unnecessary words unrelated to the actual perfume and see what is left. When we were designing things as graphic designers, we used to have a saying called 'Kiss' = keep it simple stupid. Apply that to everything and everyone and you cannot go wrong.

That sounds like a clever way of doing things mumsy thanks for the pointer.
I may give one or two more videos a go, if they don't work out then so be it Your help is always appreciated thank you.
