Head's Up for All: My Yahoo Email Account was Hacked

Moderator Stu advised me to let everyone know that my yahoo email was hacked. No, I have not been to Scotland! I hope this causes no distress for any of you. I trade and sell to many here, so this was the best way to serve notice. I have changed my password. My email is the same.

My Yahoo email account was hacked this week, too. Though I rarely use it anymore, it is the account associated with my BN profile--so, I changed the password anyway.

How could you tell if it was hacked?

In my case, Yahoo emailed me & said the security of my account had been "compromised" and they advised me to change my password.

I had the same thing happen a few months ago, but I was expecting them to contact me. A few days earlier, I had gotten about 80 return messages saying the email I had sent (which I of course hadn't!) couldn't be delivered.

Same here I guess... When I tried to log in it took ages to get into the box. I saw the post here and changed the password. After that everything worked fine.

"For those of you out there, if you think one of your friends or family members sent you an email to try out a product, whether it is free or not. To be SURE, you should email that friend/family member or CALL them to verify that IN FACT they did send you an invitation to try that particular product. If they didn't, then it means that your email was hacked."
**Your email was not necessarily hacked, but your email address was simply being used to solicit businesses of that product--watch out, it is too much trouble to try to figure out WHO in that group did it. But just to protect yourself, ALWAYS verified first before trying or buying anything, EVEN if it is FREE!***
There are various way to send emails to recipients without actually being logged in that person's email. That is the truth.
So be careful. . .

Doesn't appear I've been hacked, but just changed my password to be safe. Thanks for the heads up.

I had that happen to my hotmail account. It turned out to be a Chinese guy who was really open and honest about who he was and how much fun he was having with my account! He made it impossible to use, and I had to switch to other accounts.

My antivirus software didn't want to let me into basenotes due to possible malware/trojan activity going on. No idea where it could be stashed but you should probably not open anything except perhaps private messages here for a while and let the lovely advertisements go untouched.

No reason to get paranoid, but... I don't like this:

I don't think you're being paranoid at all! I feel for you!
Go and change ALL your passwords NOW!!!
Seriously, I had major problems on another board recently, whereby people were hacking into other peoples profiles and changing their profile pics and probably much worse! All in the name of mischief making. I changed all my passwords asap as I felt very vulnerable.
I hope it al gets sorted for you!
Its not nice when you don't feel safe.

Just to add, I highly recommend mSecure password management software. It will generate and store secure passwords. It's available for Mac, PC, Android, and iOS. The software syncs between mobile devices and computers and is, itself password protected.
