A love that BN just doesn't understand?

Thread Starter
Do you have a juice you just love but BNers just don't seem to share the experience? Which is it for you?
Alfred Sung Hei. It reminds me of an improved, longer-lasting version of Aqua Velva aftershave. Haven't worn it in a while, but when I do I've had compliments from women. Looks like not too many other BNers agree with me on this. Too bad.
Well, "love" may be a bit strong, but I like a few fragrances that most BNers either have never tried or are not fans of... Micallef's Yellow Sea immediately comes to mind as one I do actually love. Bellagio for Men and Floris JF are a couple others I like.
Montale Woods and Spice. I have had samples of it, enjoy it, always get compliments when I wear it - but to say the least, not really embraced in these parts.
Purple Patchouli and Onde Mystere.

Perhaps they slipped into the shadows by other more impressive creations released at the same time or other perfumes from the same line that lured more attention.

It matters not to me though because I'll ultimately wear what I like regardless of popularity on BN,fragrantica or parfumo.

Burberry Touch;

I love this cologne; used to be my signature scent back in college days in the 90's! I got tons of compliments wearing this. (PS. How come Colors is not listed in the BN Directory?)

Geir Ness seems to get little love here

+1 on this - I may need to wear it tomorrow. It's in the directory as "Colors Uomo".

Also a big fan of 212Men (today's pick).
So far nothing I owned in my scent wardrobe that got radical "no love from Basenotes"-reaction. It however happened that the one or the other scent is occasionally or even more frequently seen as a tad too synthetic, a tad too dated, too strong, too spicy, too linear etc., but I take it rather as friendly banter, harmless teasing and-or constructive moderate criticism
post #13 of 108
It's good to hear that there are fans of Benetton Colors here on basenotes. As I thought I was a lone voice singing its praises in the wilderness.lol
post #14 of 108
Huh! I shall try Colors then!
Marks and Spencer autograph intense. BNers won't even try it!
I loved the Sisley release last year, Eau d'Ikar and everyone else seems bored by it.

Green Irish Tweed
Aqua Di Gio. Everyone hates it because it is so loved. Go figure. I live in a city of a million people and have never smelled it on anybody. I love to wear it and other people love it when I wear it and I haven't had anyone identify it. I understand the demographic. Schools, Clubbing, etc. you might find it here and in other cities you may find a lot of people wearing it. But for me, It's GREAT and that's it.

Thanks! Already added it to my "owned" list.

The fresh range of Tommy Bahama scents. The original gets a decent amount of love, but the rest are generally scoffed at; regardless, I find most to be fairly nice for summer wear.
Pretty sure that I'm the only person on all of BN that likes gs02.

Issey Miyake
Mont Blannc's Legend
Bulgari Man
TL Pour Lui

Azzaro Onyx. Its bigger brother, Pour Homme, gets all the glory.

I like too much Bvlgari Man and Mont Blanc Legend! This last one smells like new clothing!

Jo Malone's Pomegranate Noir...
Mugler Cologne, doesn't get bashed by all means but this is by far one of my favorite scents and is underappreciated I believe.
Tommy Girl. certainly not hated here, but could get more attention, especially from men.

Allure Homme gets knocked around a lot. the original, I mean. not sure why. it's not high art, but it's a solid piece of perfumery and it's a terrific everyday scent. It's Chanel, it's affordable, and it smells good. what's not to like?

Sung Homme is the other one that doesn't get enough love. I'm guilty of that, too. Smells like the perfume version of Irish Spring soap. Pretty spectacular stuff.

SPIRIT de Antonio Banderas.

Probably the only Antonio Banderas fragrance I actually love... but many people around here frown upon.
Hierbas De Ibiza .....When i spray it, i reminds me of the small alley at Ibiza town where i actually purchase the perfume.

SL De Profundis. The funny thing about this is that, I insisted to buy this fragrance regardless of how it smell just because of the color. Luckily, I also love how it smell.

I like these 2, but somehow, I seldom see review or comments ( be it negative or positive ) for those.

Onde Mystere is a nice one. I came very close to buying a bottle. :thumb up:

My twisted love is Givenchy Pi Neo.

Guerlain Homme has taken a beating here but I love it.
It really does smell like a mojito to me.

Me, too, Mike! A pleasant surprise for me rather than a disappointment.

I enjoy L'Artisan Fou d'Absinthe, Bleu de Chanel, and YSL L'Homme - these don't get a lot of love on here.

I love Costume National Scent Intense - this one flies under the radar for the most part.
Bvlgari Man, Eau d'Ikar, Guerlain Homme plus flankers, DS2 Poison edp.

I still haven't tried this; I was underwhelmed by the Eau series and the negative feedback put this one on the back burner. I usually am in total agreement with your taste, so I will have to get some!

I really enjoyed my Prada - Amber Pour Homme, currently enjoy Premier Figuier and Lime, Basil, and Mandarin. I also enjoy smelling (I haven't ever worn it) Bvlgari Pour Homme.
I'm not saying there isn't any shared love, but I'm also not seeing any comments about three scents I just think are outstanding.
Really worth a sampling at the very least.

Tahitan Honey by Strange Invisible Perfumes - my reference ginger
Oud Luban by Aftelier Perfumes - 8 ouds blended to perfection, natural and heavenly experience
White Smoke by Anya's Garden - WOW - smoke done right, not funky ,easy to wear

Chypre Rouge
Eau Sauvage Extrême
Guerlain Homme
Dior Homme Sport
Habit Rouge Sport
Bulgari pour Homme / Extrême

Exactly! I've never smelled AdG on anyone else. I don't really wear it anymore but that's only because I've already used like 70mL of it. It's great though.. love that drydown.

I also love Givenchy Play Intense which I feel doesn't get much love here. (maybe I'm wrong)

D&G The One- one of my favorites (even though it doesn't last)

Yeah I love Fou d'Absinthe, my only complaint is I get mediocre performance on my skin. It reminds me of winters in Minnesota.
Paco Rabanne 1 Million & Black XS, Creed Original Santal, Burberry Sport, Armani ADG & Sport Code, Chez Bond, Allure Homme Sport Cologne edition, Le Male, 50 Cent Power, Serge Luten's Rousse, and Mugler's Ice*Men to name a few that aren't BN darlings.

Maybe we should start a Fd'A appreciation thread and give it some love. One of my best discoveries of last year!

Also, I love VC&A's Cologne Noire from their private collection (or whatever it's called), but good luck finding posts about it here.

I may sound monotonous to those members who know me better but Phileas doesn't get the love it deserves. I tend to believe that's just because is not so easy to find...I'll add:

Knize Sec
CDG for Stephen Jones
Versilia Platinum
Carthusia 1681
Biehl Parfumkunstwerke AL03

I tried it (I think you mean the sport version?) and also the original and liked them both. Great for the price.

3 posts mentioning Bulgari pour Homme?
I thought it was well respected here?
Azzaro Elixir.

Such a mysterious and romantic fragrances!
The reformulation of Givenchy Gentleman--which, to my nose, is really an entirely different fragrance from the original. But, I like it just as well as the original.

I also really like Bulgari Man, though the longevity on my skin is rather brief.

Also, Lanvin l'homme and Lanvin l'homme Sport. I don't believe either of these are mentioned on BN that much, and they are both great warm weather staples.
Considering how popular Dior Homme is here, I'm surprised by the lack of enthusiasm for FUBU Plush for Men, especially a few years back when 100 ml testers were around $10 !
Gucci PH II and YSL La Nuit
Many... among them, the reformulated Givenchy Gentleman. I found Sisley's Eau D'Ikar quite good. I found Hugo Boss Just Different quite different to the rest. Guerlain Homme Extrême is very good too, IMHO, albeit similar to Bvlgari Man. JPG's Le Mâle Terrible and Fleur du Mâle are among the ones I enjoy. Add to these many cheapies, like Royal Copenhagen and RC's Musk, Stetson, Brut and Menen's Skin Bracer (yes, that one).

Davidoff Cool Water - new formulation smells exactly like the one I used in 1995 - exactly like it

I just love Cool Water, no matter how much people in here keep saying it's a synthetic mess - I don't give a cr_ap, I like it, I wear it and enjoy it !
Shameful:
Paul Smith Story
L'occitane Vetyver
Cerruti 1881
Pino Silvestre
Dior Dune

Not mentioned much:
Eau du gouverneur
Joseph Abboud
Balmain BalMan
Rectoverso Man Tea&Tobacco ( a bit shameful as well but at least it's rare now :P )
Patrick

Deserves more air time:
Al Oudh
Ocean Rain
Tirrenico & the whole house
Papyrus de ciane & the whole house
Comme des garçons red series
Artek Standard
Mark Birley

That I can remember now.

+1! I love Cool Water as well. (I also like a lot of the limited edition flankers like Summer Fizz). And I personally prefer the sweetness of both Davidoff's Cool Water and Bond No. 9's Chez Bond over Creed's GIT. (GIT has too much violet & ambergris).
