Arquiste Parfumeur ramblings

Finally, a new company that is offering us some good perfume. I've only sampled Anima Dulcis and Aleksandr. The two samples available at theperfumedcourt, otherwise only at Barney's, and soon to be available at The Arquiste website.

The two noses are Yann Vasnier and Rodrigo Flores-Roux. Some scents together and some solo. These two seem to be a match made in heaven. These two scent have excellent materials, fantastic longevity, and really offer some creative parfumery.

I don't think the masses will understand this company. Arquiste is making perfumes for perfumistas. The price is $165.00 for 55 ml. I like it because the quality is line with By Kilian, but I don't have to pay an extra $60.00 for fancy packaging.

Basenoters can rejoice, we have a new company offering real perfume. Get some samples and enjoy.

Anima Dulcis was one of the best releases of 2011 IMO.

anima seems a good possibility . . . . how intense is the chili note(s) ?

the chili is a very subdued supporting role

Anima Dulcis is an absolutely beautiful scent, but I think I would have preferred a bit less baroque floral sweetness (lily? honeysuckle? tuberose? something)... it gets a bit cloying after a while. Otherwise this would have been an instant buy for me when I sampled it. The cocoa/cinnamon/vanilla/chili combination is sublime, and a waxy candle/smoke accord in the background brings it to life.

I don't recall swooning over any of the other fragrances in the line, but I do recall them all impressing me as quality compositions. I love the theme behind the line.

Funny to see this thread - I just posted a positive comment on the Female Forum.

My favorite of the line right now is Fleur de Louis, a non-sweet, unisex woody floral. As someone who prefers no heavy emphasis on amber, patchouli, musk, vanilla (I like these notes, but they need to be blended subtly into the main composition for me), this was such a lovely find! FdL is on the soft side, but nuanced; it has a strong character that does not veer into desperate or histrionic mode as so many scents can.

For a more typically masculine scent, Aleksandr smelled wonderful.

I hope people give this line a chance; there is something fresh and unique about these compositions...they're worth sampling.

Count me as a fan if this new house. I own a full bottle of Anima Dulcis and plan on getting at least Aleksandr. AD is my scent of the evening; talk about a comfort scent! The concepts surrounding each (exact moments in time) are intriguing, but it's the juice that counts. They've matched their intriguing concepts with equally-intriguing scents. Very exciting!

Unfortunately I'm quite disappointed with Anima Dulcis. It goes on as a kind of uninteresting cocoa note with cumin, and while I typically love cumin fragrances it does not pair well at all with sweet cocoa/vanilla in my opinion. It's actually the first time in quite a while that I've fought the urge to scrub it off, pretty much nauseating

Alexandre is like a slightly less coherent Clive Christian C for men (my alltime fav leather scent) with an almost kind of watery/melon background.

Fleur de Louis honestly just smells like a really bland jasmine meets a bar of Dove soap. I find it quite forgettable and uninteresting.


Infanta en flor seems mostly magnolia and orange flower water. It's probably the one I like most of the four but that's not saying much. I wish I liked these more but they smell rather unfinished to me.

I only own Fleur De Louis so far. It's so floral, I think it's more suitable for Estee Lauder or Liz Claiborne lines who appeal more towards mature women.

The others, especially Anima Dulcis and L'Etrog, are on my wishlist.

Aleksandr didn't blow me away with the first whiff. When I wore it for the day, it kept surprising with whiffs all day. I think it's the best fir balsam scent out there. Aleksandr will haunt you, and keep you coming back for more.

I am going to get a bottle of Anima Dulcis and Aleksandr as soon as a shop that ships worldwide stocks it.

L'Etrog is a fairly good sleeper as well.
