I'm curious as to which you think is better?
Like both of them but OV way more as the citrus aspect just comes alive more on your skin in the heat and projects really well.
I much prefer Grey Vetiver.
looks like the 2 choices are a battle of equals ... one a C+ and the other a C- ... reluctantly will choose Grey Vetiver ... mediocrity rules ...
Have not tried OV but Jack likes it so I probably will too. But I am a big Grey Vetiver fan.
CREED Original Vetiver by far IMO.
Both are nice....I bought OV over GV though. I plan on adding GV soon. I decided to get Black Orchid first instead.
I prefer the Creed.

Grey Vetiver for sure.
I don't see these as having much in common. It's hard to even compare them.
TF Grey Vetiver gives me a headache, and Creed OV doesn't smell much like vetiver to me.

I'd go with Encre Noire, Sycomore, or CDG Vettiveru instead, or Guerlain Vetiver if you want to stick with a more "traditional" take on vetiver.

well... they are both modern vetiver scents. it's not like i'm comparing Drakkar Noir and Shamilar....

looks like a dead heat right now at 8-8.

Went for Original Vetiver myself. Bought both from a fellow BN'er (oh hi, Oslo_Fjord) and just found more at ease with Original Vetiver myself. Gray is something quite else in my book. A fantastic frag, just not for me at the current time (and my girlfriend by far preferes the soapy cleanliness from O.V).

I love Grey Vetiver. I can make my own OV from the water drained off the boiled potatoes, and at a fraction of the cost!
Grey Vetiver is the only vetiver that I would wear.

Hilarious. +1 for TFGV.
Got both, and like them both.
But between them I go with CREED.

TFV for me all the way!!!

Have sampled both. My nose is not highly trained, but I think in a way that is a good thing. Creed is more citrus and fresh. Could picture wearing it on a hot summer day. The Tom Ford is not musky, but to me smells more rich and manly. Probably more formal. Seems like it would make a great work scent

Same here - been wearing it today as it happens . TFGV didn't really do much for me.
I own and love both. But when reaching for a vetiver, I generally do not even consider OV. I view that as a more clean, soapy scent (one that I love). Grey Vetiver is truer to form, reminding of Guerlain Vetiver. As such, will have to abstain from a vote.
Grey Vetiver. OV starts out great but gets irritating after awhile.
Both great but i enjoyed the creed a little bit more
post #26 of 58
My vote is for OV. IMO, it's bottle worthy. It projects well too.

GV is nice, but a bit too chalky for me.

I like GV, but Creed OV is one of the few Creed frags I LOVE.
Have samples of both and plan on getting full bottles of each in the near future, if I had to chose I would probably go with OV

This is about right. They're both shooting blanks.

Grey Vetiver is very classy and clean. Even though it is very different, Sycomore is the ultimate vetiver by far.

well I'll be damned... the Tom Ford won. didn't predict that one...

EDIT: now it's 24-24!

+1 for the TFGV, but the OV don't suck.

has a poll ever been this close? amazing!

for what it's worth, i own and love both of these fragrances. I wear the CREED when i want to have that ultra-clean fresh feel. less dressy and very casual. i wear the Tom Ford when I want a little more attitude and swagger along with the traditional clean vetiver vibe. more dressed up style.

drydown on the Creed is much better.

longevity on the TF is much better.

i'll keep and continue to enjoy the heck out of both. :-)

Creed.
Weird comparison because I don't really think of OV as a vetiver scent, I just like the scent better than a majority of anything I've tried before. Which includes Grey Vetiver - however, if we're strictly talking which rendition of vetiver do I like better, it's Grey Vetiver.
I own both.
My fav is the OV.
(Oh, how I miss the 1948 Creed Vetiver............)
I find GV to be a much cleaner vetiver than Creed's offering. To me OV is a softer, more muddled scent with less of the crisp, soapy green that I appreciate in a vetiver. Tom Ford wins this one.
If you are looking for a true vetiver scent, Sycomore is the best there is. Period.

But between these two, I would choose Original Vetiver. Nothing original about it but a nice clean, soapy smell that is superb in the summer. Definitely vetiver in there but a lot more going on with bergamot & ginger in the top notes and various woody notes in the base. As with most Tom Fords, this one is powdery, cloying and something in there that just doesn't balance out well. I know many do like it as it's a take on a classic but I just can't give it the vote.
I like both, but I would have to side with Grey Vetiver, something about the top notes when first sprayed always makes me go back for more...
I am not a fan of Grey Vetiver at all, something about it irritates me thoroughly. I have not smelled Original Vetiver, but my top vetiver choices would be Sycomore and Vetiver Extraordinaire, which are both five star fragrances to me.
Like my dentist asking me, "Novocain or no novocain?"
Big Fan of GV
one of those I feel I don't have enough of
post #44 of 58
Creed OV is a fresher more casual fragrance, TFGV is more formal and serious.

Got them both - love them both!
Grey Vetiver is more traditional vetiver, and Creed is just different. I like them both quite a bit, but I will go with Tom Ford because it's more traditional and represents vetiver better.
How odd. I don't think Grey Vetiver is very traditional. It's much fresher, lighter and more modern than Creed's to me.
GV smells better in the bottle, but OV smells better on the skin. GV can be cloying if too many sprays are applied.
OV for me...It's truly a beautiful fragrance...I can smell everynote listed in the dry down. Is versatile as all get out and shines in the hot weather...TF GV not a versatile and more traditional to me...IMHO...
Original Vetiver has really taken off for me... I like it a lot more than I used to. It's moving it's way up toward Sycomore and Vetiver Tonka. I really like all of my vetiver scents a lot more than before...must be growing on me.

CREED Original Vetiver..

Tom Ford Grey Vetiver.
Has to be one of the closest polls ever... And I would have expected OV to landslide it. I like both, but prefer OV.

I agree. Not even close. I still hate most vetivers, though.

Grey Vetiver by a country mile.

One of the best spring/summer scents for men ever IMO and one of my personal favourite scents of all time.
Having got both OV and GV recently, i should say GV works better for me. OV is all soapy whereas GV is clean and crisp, how a vetiver should be.
OV. GV smells like a phoney/ nauseating aroma chemical.
