Personally I would't buy this on ebay when retail stores will have it soon, why spend the extra cash.
hi i wouldnt buy it on ebay, as with the other pure editons ive bought several bottles of each, malt , havane, hot chillim paste and there fetching far far more than what i paid, you looking in the 100's for malt etc, im just supprised , as you can get "mostly anything" off ebay, nobodys put anyone, buit would be looking for a tobbaco related frangrance, but it seems its hard to find, i know this new isnt a tobbaco fragrance, its more "simple clean fresh" just hope our local store has it in, thanks

I'll have a second bottle of this tomorrow, that one likely staying sealed and in a cool dark closet. I wore it to work today, and really loved getting a whiff of it as I would walk around. I am really pleased with what Thierry Mugler was able to do, Pure Shot is really a very good cologne overall.

Pure Shot is available in Europe. I got mine, with a cute miniature.

Got my bottle on hold at The Bay will pick it up later today
post #606 of 689
does anyone know of any store that will ship to england we have to wait another month, thanks, and has anyone sampled the pure gold? thanks
post #607 of 689
Just picked up my bottle, I'm neutral about it so far. It's fresh and clean. That's all I can say tbh.
I also just picked up my bottle, I like it, its not what i expected but its certainly not as bad as what others have been saying. I voted for "i like this fragrance" its quality juice and a different take on a summer fragrance. I don't think this is a "bump" in the road for Mugler, its the best "sport inspired" fragrance i've tried in a long time.

I agree. The mint/juniper berry accord is unique and works very well IMO. I'm surprised to hear all the negs on this one.

Give it a year, it will be hailed as a God.
I haven't tried it yet. So my money would be better spent on another frag. LOL.
I think its a ridiculous release. 11 pages on this DUD ??? Im no hater, in fact I like for too many frags but this one is flat and outright boring. I would never reach for this one, getting rid of mine and not looking back.
tbh its to simple...and also light. I want to be hit in the head when I smell a A*Men Pure Scent. This is too gentle.
Very underwhelmed with this one. The mint is a non-event, the freshness is hardly discernible from umpteen other citrus-aquatics we've smelled before, and the vanilla pod absolute is a whisper. Very little in common with any A*Men release. while the dry, barky, woody aspect is a unique touch, it's lacking a complimentary shell. It's like Thierry was a fan of CDG's Sequoia and failed at fleshing it out into a fresh scent. Easy pass.

Try this one if you meet these two criterion:

1. You love CDG Sequoia
2. You like mid-to-low-designer-level, citrus-green-fresh-aquatics
post #615 of 689
The scent itself isn't bad. The longevity is crap. Muglers are supposed to last a long time. This one's the runt of the Pure family.
tried this one yesterday and I was very disappointed with smell, longevity and projection

In agreement. I felt that mugler has finally ran out of ideas for the limited editions
post #618 of 689
I tried this in Nordstrom yesterday...it's awful! And the dry down reminds me of hair gel or something like that. Glad to pass on this one.

Economic downturn, inflation, cost-cutting, maybe the fragrance house has resorted to using cheaper materials, department given tighter budget, don't have much to work with, marketing research team wants to aim the 'pure' line for the mass market which is where the money is, proto-typical consumer might show to like fresh frags. Maybe those could be the reasons.

Worldwide crisis is knocking on Mugler's door.

Those are really good possibilities, but IMO i doubt it. I don't think Mugler suddenly "ran out of ideas" so to say, but wanted to attempt at making a fresh fragrance. Nothing wrong with that. If Mugler release their leather collection in the fall then I highly doubt that they stoped making stranger fragrances with a theme. Its there reputation as being a unique designer house with stranger concepts and using ingredients other houses don't commonly use. I don't get why people are saying this is the end of unique Mugler fragrances and all that...... I like Pure shot and many don't, but just because you do not like 1 fragrance from a house doesnt mean you have to bash them, especially if your fond of most othere other releases. Your most favourite house, whether it be designer or niche has at least 1 fragrance that you do not care for.
A lot of people were hoping for a release by Mugler without the A*Men notes and now that it's available, still a lot of people hate it! I like it and I think it's a clean and fresh fragrance... I'm getting me a bottle!

I even think the dry down shares some similarities with Tom Ford's Oud wood! Am I the only one detecting this?
I sampled this today. It's not bad, not spectacular either. It's basically just a typical nice clean fragrance. It's not distinguishing or unique, but can be used quite well as a signature fragrance, especially for the office.

I think I'll pass on this one for now. I can't see this one joining the pantheon of Pure Coffee, Pure Malt, and Pure Havane; but wouldn't be surprised if this went for $200+ on ebay once it's discontinued.

Never smelled Oud Wood before but I find the drydown strikingly similar to L'Artisan's Timbuktu. It's gotta be the cardamom.

After reading your post I went and tried my Timbuktu sample and it's so true, Pure shot smells a lot like Timbuktu!!!

Anyone seen this in UK stores yet?

If this had the name Hugo Boss "Big" Shot on the front of it people would be talking about how Hugo Boss released another boring and generic fragrance and another turd would emerge from Hugo's butt. Thierry Mugler on the other hand we expect interesting, unique, and quality (longevity and projection) especially releasing it in the Pure line. This fragrance should insult anyone that had supported the Pure line because it's not unique or exciting, fades to almost nothing before you get your first cup of coffee in the morning, projects like a mouse's fart, and smells like an Axe body spray. It's an absolute disgrace of a release and goes to show how out of touch Thierry Mugler is with it's customer base and how anyone will buy something if it's in a limited amount even if was made by scraping off dog crap from the bottom of a shoe and putting it into a bottle with a brown star on it. This is as close as it gets.
Personally I wouldn't spend much money on any Mugler. I like A*Men but I'm not going to let Mugler rape me for his flankers.
I like it, but it lasts about 2 hours on my skin.

rofl!!! somebody's pissed at Thierry
I tried it at Nordstrom recently. I didn't think much of it.
I got it for collection purposes and I'm pretty disappointed...I'll probably never really use it. Unfortunate release.
I think this one is meant to douse yourself with, like 6 sprays. Think more of scented water than fuming cologne. It really strays from traditional "sport". I bet it gets popular when people see it like a mugler cologne where you put it on everywhere than a traditional 3 spritz headache sport frag. I was wrong once long ago though so don't listen to me.
You ever used A*Men shampoo/bodywash? Doesnt really smell like A*Men, just smells thin, generic and sporty. Well that's kinda what this smells like. Weeeak.

You can dislike Taste of Fragrance, but at least it had a huge set of balls.

I agree with both of those statements.

Finally tried Pure Shot, I won't say its a bad fragrance, but it has this bizzare almost "dirty" note, ie. Le Male Terrible, 212 sexy, which I didn't like.

My friend really liked it and said he would pick it up.

This^

How they can release this crap, and not re-release Pure Malt is beyond me.
The people at Mugler need to stop their cocaine habits.

I agree with this, thus why I picked it up. Plus got it cheap. Also only wore it once and got 3 compliments but I needed to spray like 7 times so smell this thing because its so light. lol

Yeah, there is the signature a*men base in there, which contrasts with the clean mint/juniper berry topnotes.

It is the best "sport" frag I've tried.

It IS unique and interesting. The "clean" smell everyone is getting is a sort of fougere effect from the mint and juniper. What other frag does this and has this blend of notes?

I can't understand all the negativity surrounding this. IMO, it is as good as any of the other a*men flankers. I think all the bullshit surrounding Thierry Mugler and the A*Men flankers are really distorting how this frag is being perceived. I have no problem with people not liking something but to say this is is not unique is flat out wrong. If you think it's not unique, please tell me which other frags I can get that are so similar. I know there's got to be lots of stuff with mint, juniper berry and patchouli, lol...
My least favorite of the recent A*Men offerings. Pure Shot reminds me of Mugler Cologne and Gendarme. If you
like those fragrances, Pure Shot may work for you. I don't like it.
So I am pretty neutral about this fragrance after several wearings. I find it weak, poorly blended, and poor longevity. I wore it to work yesterday as I work at a hospital and find it pretty inoffensive. Interestingly I got a few compliments on it.
Gave it a full wearing for the first time, 4 sprays, 8 hours longevity, 3 compliments.

In a nutshell, it sucks. I agree !
I had all but forgotten about this one until I saw it in Nordstrom recently. Despite the fact that I tend to like fresh/sporty scents more than the average BNer, I found this one a bit unpleasant. A mild thumbs down from me, and an easy pass for something with an $85 price tag, as there are many decent fresh scents out there for fairly cheap.
To me, the biggest let down was that it wasn't unique at all, nor did it feel like a fragrance Mugler would release. It sticks out like a sore thumb when compared to the rest of the Pure flankers.

The dry-down also does resemble Tide laundry detergent.

Dude...I *totally* get that BO smell from it. What is that!? Is it Cumin?
You're right it does go away, but it really is bad..
It's like dirty laundry combined with gym clothes mixed with Tide laundry detergent...and that's basically the entire fragrance...
I also get a slight BO vibe during the opening. If I wasn't collecting the entire A*Men line, I wouldn't have bought this one.

For summer, I really like this. Bought a bottle the other day. Fresh and easy going.
In case anyone cares, I recently saw A*Men Taste of Fragrance on Fragrancenet for about $40 cheaper (if you count discount codes & cash back) compared to the price it's listed on the Mugler website. Too bad though, it has since sold out from Fragrancenet.

Furthermore, early last year, I remember Pure Malt ending up on Fragrancenet & easily available. Basically, my point is, if you really want a Mugler frag like Pure Shot, but don't want to pay the outrageous price, just wait about 6 months and you'd be able to get it from Fragrancenet for a really good deal.

I like it and so does quite a few others in here.

Your opinion != the one true fact.

I tried Pure Shot today. Top notes are one of worst that I ever smelled (and smell really really drugstore cheap) but after like half hour it is easy to wear decent summer scent. It reminds me of something that I smelled before but I dont know what. It is indeed worst of Pure line, but not as bad as I expected after reading this topic. I like it (its maybe 3 out of 5 stars for me) but probably wont buy it (btw its being sold for 46 euros online here).

Edit:

Ok this smells like when Avon - Full Speed (R.P.M in some states) meets some parts of Timbuktu
post #658 of 689
I agree the top notes are just...odd. My wife, who generally likes the crowd-pleaser scents best was absolutely disgusted by this one.

I wear it to work and get good compliments on it. Its clean and reminds me of laundry detergent or something. I like it, but would have been cool with a 20ml decant and used the other money other other scents.
