Album, EP, or Song of the day ~ February 2012

I'm going to see The Chemical Brothers movie (in theaters - one night only) tonight, 'Don't Think' so today I'm playing all of their tracks in my iTunes on Shuffle

I'm stoked.

At one time in my life, if you asked me who my Very Favorite Artist was, I would have answered The Chemical Brothers. I have almost their entire discography, and while I've sort of been a bit disappointed with some of their latest output, it seems as if the last year they got their groove back with that soundtrack they did for 'Hanna' and that 'Black Swan' track.

I have gone to one of their concerts in Miami and although I was definitely under-the-influence at the time (cough, cough), the show was mind-bending. Electronic acts and raves have copied a lot of their lighting and video styles from TCB shows.

Some of my all-time favorite TCB tracks are the vinyl-only Sasha remixes of 'Out of Control', '(The Best Part Of) Breaking Up' from the 'Loops of Fury EP', a rare b-side from one of their early singles called 'Life Is Sweet (Delik 1)' and of course 'Chemical Beats'.

We Will Always Be by Windy & Carl [Kranky]

After being terribly disappointed by Kompakt's Pop Ambient 2012, this was a nice treat. Looking Glass is one of my favorites and the epic 18 minute outro Fainting in the Prescence of the Lord is lovely.

Mark Ronson- (Stop me) if you think you've heard this one before;
Jorge Ben- Hermes Trimegisto escreveu;
Kings of Leon- Radioactive (choir remix).

The Chemical Brothers movie was In-credible! I want to see them live soon - the visuals are perhaps the best I've ever seen. I had goosebumps many times throughout the film. I sat right up front, really close to the screen. Highly recommended.

Today it's...

Undun by The Roots

The last 4 tracks of the album are straight up classical music, woven into the end of a hip-hop album. These guys rule.

Kings & Them by Evian Christ

On the hottest, emerging record label IMO, Tri Angle. Intelligent hip-hop or indie hip-hop, whatever they want to call it. The style I like. Go Girl been on repeat since the morning. Free download off their official site if you're interested.

Perfume Genius - Hood

I heard someone say "Cabaret Pop" while describing their sound. That's all it took.

Gotta chuckle at that Perfume Genius video. If you like his stuff CC, check out the band, The Irrepressibles, their song 'In This Shirt' and the bizarre (and definitley NSFW video) gives you a taste of what the world of chamber pop has to offer. Reminds me a bit of Antony & The Johnsons, but more classical sounding. While you're at it check out The Magnetic Fields stuff - Stephen Merritt is frighteningly talented.

This evening it's this track, from one of my favorite albums last year...

She Loves Me That Way by Grouper from the 'A I A : Alien Observer' E.P.

I look forward to some future Grouper releases soon. Her music speaks to me, very much like the old back catalog of 4AD records did, resting on the very edges of goth, folk, ambient and something dark, evil...but warmly human. This track is the best one on the E.P.

I adore The Irrepressibles (thanks to hearing you post that track awhile back) and Antony & The Johnsons. I'll definitely check out The Magnetic Fields! I also recently happened upon Woodkid, which was a nice discovery.

I know what you mean...tonight in the car, on the way home from my family's house, I had 'I Won't Share You' by The Smiths in my head and I had to play it right then on my IPod. Silly, but true.

LOL. Even more silly: I trying to sing the song I woked up with in my mind; try to find the music and not finding; wake up with a detestable song in your mind- but in this case I listen to a better music to forget about that!
As you also like The Smiths, there's a good cover (IMO) Placebo made from Big Mouth Strikes Again.
