Bond No 9 scents

Thread Starter
Can anyone recommend a good Bond No 9 scent? I know this is a loaded question, but I have been wanting to try this house out for awhile.

Right now I am eyeing New Haarlem, but at the same time I am kind of wanting a new spring/summer scent. Probably something not too green as GIT works well for that department. Any thoughts would be appreciated!

I have "I <3 NY 4 All" and like it a lot. Very milky coffee/hazlenut/vanilla scent...

Posting in this thread to get some answers. I've had no luck with this house other than NH.

Personally, I like Bond's fragrances, and my favorite from this house so far is Chez Bond. To me, it's a more modern and soothing take on the GIT/Cool Water theme. The "in your face" violet leaves are toned down, and the sour ambergris base is replaced with a sweeter "grape powder" type musk. Also, all the Bonds are EDP's, so they all last forever on your skin.

I also do like New Haarlem as well, but it's definitely a cold weather fragrance.

Definitely try before buying anything at their prices. I got a sample of I <3 NY for all and can't stand it. But I do have samples of Chez (nice) West Broadway (nice) and Silver Factory which is awesome. If you're at all interested in NH give it a try. For fresh scents I can also recommend Bleeker Street and Brooklyn, if you already have GIT don't bother with Chez. I found by calling them you can order 6 samples for $15, something they won't let you do on the website.

I think ILNYFA is cute and comfy but definitely not worth the asking price. It's Blue Sugar with coffee.

Harrods Swarovski Ltd Edition is the only standout, the rest being well crafted but unremarkable imo.

I just went to Saks and tried out a few Bonds last weekend. I already had done a bind buy on New Haarlem and was glad I did once I tried it. The other standouts for me were Riverside Drive, Chez Bond, and Silver Factory. Want to try those again for possible purchase.

I enjoy I Love New York For All quite a bit, but lots of people also seem to have strong negative reactions to it. My favorite from the house is Chinatown. That definitely leans feminine, though, so I'm not sure if that's something you'd be comfortable with. Brooklyn is pretty good; it's very cedary, but the top is bright and sharp with prominent grapefruit and juniper notes. New York Oud is very good, but probably not great for the summer.

Lots of people seem to like Silver Factory a lot. I don't like it at all, TBH.

Best of the line, imo:

Silver Factory
West Side
Riverside Drive
I Love NY For All
Amber oud
New Haarlem is the only one I was compelled to buy.
There are several from Bond that I like and most have been mentioned, but I will list mine anyway.

New York Oud
Harrod's Oud
New Haarlem
Silver Factory
Bleeker Street
I ♥ NY for all (after the sour milk note at the top leaves.)

Riverside Drive is the only one I've tried that smelled somewhat nice IMO, but still wouldn't buy it.
I see it doesn't get very good reviews in the directory, but Montauk might also be worth a try. The blueberry note is interesting, and I think it would make a pretty good summer scent.
They get way too much hate on the forums , they're pretty good IMO ... like too many to mention individually
post #18 of 49
I like Silver Factory, New York Amber, New Haarlem,Chez Bond. IMO compared to Creed Bond No. 9 sits better on my skin. Some Creeds go sour on my skin.
Washington Square. A dandy's blend of honey and rose with a nice herbal edge thanks to a prominent tarragon note. Oh, and it starts out with a great great great bergamot tea note, which then fades into an accord somewhat reminiscent of those chocolate covered orange sticks.
there are some nice scents from this house, but a lot of people on here think this house is over rated?
The only ones worth the money
Overrated for sure.....But I do like Silver Factory
post #23 of 49
Some of their stuff is potent on me, but the fact that crank out many fragrances at a time annoys people and the concentration of "natural" ingredients. You will find people that say Bond is overrated an Creed is overrated so it's pretty much to the consumer. It's all about if the juice is worth it to the person wearing it.
I seem to be the only one who likes "So New York".
I recommend you these;New Haarlem-A.W.Success-Wall Street-Silver Factory-NY Oud-NY Amber...But expensive frags
post #26 of 49
I have sampled many in the Bond line and haven't found one I feel to be bottle worthy. The one I have come closest to enjoying is H.O.T. Always - an in-your-face patchouli.
From what I've tried, I dig:

New Haarlem
New York Oud
Harrods Swarovski Limited Edition
Silver Factory
Chinatown
(though as L'Incadescent mentioned, it certainly does lean towards what's usually described as feminine, and it's difficult for me to wear personally)
I like Wall Street (summer favorite) and I love NY for all (sweet but not in your face, a nice chestnut&cocoa)
Great Jones
Silver Factory
Chez Bond
Eau de New York
Harrods Swarovski Limited Edition

Actually Wall Street is really sophisticated one from Bond No.9 House, just like some Creed Fragrances(e.g. GIT-Millessime Imperial). It is really difficult to find what is the character of the parfum(especially as a niche fragrance),there is no good fragrance too much for spring or summer.Well, i think wall street could use so many where and different times, whenever you want.Although it is expensive, but everyone should have this one...
I thought Andy Warhol Lexington Avenue was quite nice, surprisingly complex and possessing a pleasantly warm drydown. I'd definitely buy a bottle.
I own a few of these fragrances....Riverside Dr. is by far (according to the SA's at my wife's store) the most popular mens fragrance in the Bond line...I own it and like it as to me it is different to most of the aquatic trendy frags. being pushed now....I also own and like Success Is A Job In New York...Chinatown is a fragrance that is considered "unisex" and my wife wears it...but to me it is too fem for me....I also like Nuits de Noho but again is too fem....
Brooklyn is a good one to try, it makes a lot of people's top 10 spring lists. You have to be a huuuuuge fan of grapefruit though, because that's all I get through the composition. See sig.
New Haarlem
Washington Square

Chinatown is very nice but found it too feminine
post #35 of 49
new haarlem is one of the few niche that i would own
post #36 of 49
Riverside Drive is one of the best Bond's I've tried and it's great for summer. Bleecker Street is also another one worth sampling for summer.
Coney Island is a nice one for summer. Agree on Riverside Drive too. I own Wall Street but these others will be my next gets. Brooklyn I need to sample.
There's so many offerings from this house, I couldn't wait to sample them all. Took quite a while to do so, and I found out that....I can't stand ANY of them. EXCEPT for 'Brooklyn'. That's the only one.

I also find that while New Haarlem is a great scent, in and of itself, and also a great achievement in fragrance design, but I found it unwearable on me, sold my bottle.

I love New Haarlem, it's fantastic, and I love Little Italy-first time mentioned in this thread-pure citrus and I love it, it's like squeezing and orange peel on your skin, it's great. We own full bottles of New Haarlem and Little Italy. My wife and I also purchased the 18 bon-bon set a few weeks ago and we have been trying them all out and I can honestly say that I only dislike one (Astor Place) and there are a few that aren't for me, but I think I really like about 14 of them.

Chez Bond-Love it, I agree that it's a better, more modern, less harsh GIT wannabe.
Bleeker Street-A lot like Chez Bond but with a Blueberry Accord...I would say that if you own Bleeker you don't need Chez and vise versa.
Coney Island-I think it's awesome and very original-I really like the salty-sweet accord.
Central Park-Super Green and very original..I really like it...blends well with others also.
Eau de New York-It smells like rain in the fall to me-Rain and Fall, can't go wrong in my book.
Riverside Drive-Mossy and great.
Wallstreet-It's good but the cucumber accord gets me a little and it's not long lasting on my skin.
China Town-Really love this...for my wife, I tried it and it was too feminine for me.
Cooper Square-Smokey and different-Like it too.
Broadway Nite-It's good-definitely feminine in my book-it does something weird to my nose, it almost makes my sinuses close up. It's a weird sensation.
Fire Island-Crazy one here..it's good if you like the suntan lotion smell-It's harsh for the first hour or so and then it dries down nice...not my favorite, but I don't dislike it.
Scent of Peace-More on the feminine side, really nice but super light and not the best longevity.

Overall, I really like the house of Bond no 9. If I were to purchase another full bottle for me it would be between Chez Bond, Bleeker Street, and Coney Island. For my wife it would come down between China Town and Scent of Peace. Ok I would really choose China Town for my wife but she's not completely sold on it.

I bought 4 and traded 3.

Traded:

New Haarlem
Silver Factory
Eau de NY

Kept:

Riverside Drive

At the beginning I liked them a lot but after a while I got pushed away by synthetic smell that most of them have.
Since than I have turned to Creeds because they are only house that still has fragrances made from natural ingredients that don't make me sick.

I really don't get the whole synthetic vibe...Everyone gets upset and says that Chez Bond smells like GIT but then they say that Bond's smell synthetic. I gave Chez Bond and GIT a full days test with one on each arm to give them both a fair chance and Chez Bond won hands down to me...not only did it last longer, but it smelled fresher and more natural to me...so I don't get this whole synthetic thing, the Bond's smell good and natural to my nose...I wonder if this whole Creeds are more natural gets into people's heads to make them think they smell more natural. Granted, I am speaking from little experience, I've really only smelled GIT and Aventus of the Creeds, but they don't smell any more natural to me than the Bonds do. I do smell synthetic in a few Bond's like Astor Place and a few others, but overall they smell good and natural to me. I mean, Little Italy smells seriously like you squeezed and orange peel to get the juices to spray on you and there you have it. Ok, it's more complex than that or I wouldn't have forked over the money and just rubbed orange peels on me.

Maybe I just need to train my nose to detect the differences between Creed's "Natural" and Bond's "Unnatural" but seriously I smell absolutely nothing more natural in GIT than Chez Bond. Ok, I think I've made my point, I don't mean offense, I just don't get it.

West Broadway is worth a look.
Andy Warhol Andy Warhol was unique I thought...
I like Andy Warhol. The plum really works
post #45 of 49
If you want a spring/summer scent you may want to give these a try

Coney Island
Harrods for Him
Bleecker Street
Fire Island

Well, I think it's mainly due to the fact that they're obscenely expensive and 9/10 of their frags don't seem fully worked out. I think if they pruned their line down to "just" 15 or so scents and put the time/resources saved into reformulating and polishing those ones, they'd be an Incredible house.

The best thing said about them in the guide (in my opinion) is that a lot of their stuff is nice from a distance, but turns ugly upon closer inspection.

But as for your actual question, I really enjoy fire island. You have to be a certain kind of guy to wear it, but there aren't many fragrances I've smelled that made me smile and laugh like that. Very, very fun. Wall street is another that's kinda funky/fresh but also #1 in my wish list for them to polish further.

I think most Bond's are too expensive for what they offer, but if you can get one at a discounrer or thru a split I would recommend these:

Chez Bond
Harrod's for men
Harrod's Oud (swarovski)
H.O.T Always
Silver Factory
Nuits de Noho
NY Amber
No love for H.O.T Always?
