Just a bit more info for people concerned about tracking: if you are using Firefox,
go here, which is the Mozilla extension site. Find
Do Not Track Plus (DNT, as donna255 mentioned, and it is made by Abine, the company I earlier suggested). Once installed, it will run in the background on its own, and all you really see is a small icon on your browser showing how many tracking attempts are originating from the site you are visiting. You can tweak it if you want, but just letting it run as is will will block the vast majority of tracking attempts. For a bit of a shock, you can check it periodically to see how many tracking attempts have been blocked since it's been installed; my last count was well over 80,000. Wheee!
For an extra layer of privacy, also install
Better Privacy from the Add-ons site. It also runs in the background, and blocks and deletes Flash cookies, which can be a more robust form of tracking cookie.
Hope that helps!
