I must bump this.
Interlude Man is precisely what you are looking for.
I have been no fan of Amouage's recent craze of smoke in their fragrances. Epic smelled like Sex Panther by Odion and a burning drum of crude petroleum. Memoir smelled like someone dumped a very full ashtray on top of fresh basil leaves. And Honour man smelled like "Chanel Allure Edition Blanche Poivre Extrême Et Cigarette"
Interlude man, on the other hand.....smells like a massive suede box of stickless Japanese Shoyeido/Baeido incense, sitting in a home where Oud chips smoldered the night before, after a delicious Italian dinner and spiced baklava for dessert.
Interlude Man's incense smoke is not parched or ashy, but rich, smooth, and creamy, almost warm and humid. The leather is not plasticky like Pure Leather, it is soft and rich suede. And I was worried the oregano or allspice would bring too much chaos, but Interlude is smooth and powerful.
A very unexpected winner from Amouage.
I still like Ciel Man and Jubilaton XXV more, but Interlude is 3rd, and Arcus is #4. Everything I liked in Opus #4 seems to be in interlude, but the fruits are toned down, and the cumin removed. Plus a huge massive dose of a Japanese frankincense/myrrh incense. Good stuff.
