Non-sweet cold weather fragrances?

In the past I've owned A*Men, 1 Million and Burberry Brit. Currently I own Dior Homme.
While I don't dislike any of them (except now 1 Million), I don't feel very comfortable wearing any of them.

Despite getting many compliments, they feel out of my element. I can only describe it as wearing wearing hair gel, or green pants, or something equally unsuiting for me.

When I wear something I'm confident with, it seems I even like to get in close quarters with people just to show it.

What are some nice colder weather scents without this overbearing sweetness?
If anyone is to mention Encre Noire, I love it

Cold weather scents for discerning intellectuals who feel they want themselves to be taken more seriously than something with a gourmand or sweet side to it ?

Test these:

Tam Dao

Nasomatto Duro
Amouage Memoir man
TGQ Cavendish Black

Gucci Pour Homme 1
Tommy Bahama Original
Azzaro Visit

These are all good options if you like woody/non sweet scents.

Also, since you mentioned A*Men, I would give Ice*Men a try. It's meant to be a summer fragrance, but works well year round. It starts with an iced coffee/nutmeg opening, and dries down to a menthol/patchouli base (minus the chocolate/caramel, sweet notes from A*Men & it's flankers). It's a nice "bracing" scent that energizes in the cold weather.

Great list, DULLAH !

Although I thought The Gentlemen's Quarter had closed down for the time being, so unless one can buy Black Cavendish on Ebay?--um have you got a source?

I'd amend the Guerlian ( still my favorite vetiver, btw) to L'Occitane--more in keeping with cold weather, or brooding thoughts; but the OP already has Encre Noire and may not be interested in any vettiver.

OK, strange idea perhaps but some of the powerhouse scents that would be arguably too much in summer?

Blenheim Bouquet
Tuscany/Etruscan
Azzaro PH
Jacomo de Jacomo
Vintage Tabarome (discontinued but not hard to find)
Macassar (discontinued and good luck finding it!)
Or Black
Grey Flannel
Joseph Abdoud
Peau d'Espagne
Tabac Aurea
Cuir d'Oranger (Miller Harris)

Yes, Erik they are quite different from each other though I've no idea if you'll like any of them. Hope you can find samples. However, I do guarantee no one will say they are sweet

Check out the reviews. And never trust anyone wearing green pants.

Cheers,

Mario

Something like Dunhill for Men (1934), but you have to like that style.

Out of those I have only tried Azzaro PH, which I also love.
I'll take the fact that I very enjoy the few fragrances I recognize from these lists as an indicator that I should listen to their advice and tastes

Wonderwood by Comme des Garcons - Welcome to the wide world of woods! The interesting opening is a dank, forest tree scent, supplied by the melange of warm sandalwood, hints of zesty bergamot and anise-like, caraway seeds, earthy vetiver and creamy guaic wood. This impressive concoction is reminescent of a felled tree in a rain forest, with the attendant damp and green environs. Transitioning to the waiting middle, spicy pepper, ghosts of apple, plum and floral fruitiness from the cristalin, musky powder from the cashmeran, and savory incense enhance the woody brew. The awesome drydown with its rich cedar and enchanting agarwood tug at this lively heart, and is augmented by a charming patchouli, faintly bathing the cedar and oud in an air of mustiness, and a refreshing, dry cypress, with its hint of spiciness, exalting the pleasing, woody base. This high quality and exceptional composition has good projection, after some 4 hours becoming a skin scent, and excellent longevity.

Encre Noire
Wonderwood
Sycomore
TdH
Le Labo Patchouli 24, Vetiver 46, Rose 31
PdN New York

Those are probably the ones I've turned to most this winter. Usually I look towards woody or incense-based scents for cool weather, but I guess that's partly because the only gourmand I've got is Coromandel.

I tend to think of Blenheim Bouquet and Guerlain Vetiver as warmer weather scents, but that's just me.

Yes I agree Encre Noir is great and I do wear it in winter. Along that vetiver you'll probably like Terre D Hermes and the guys that said Fahrenheit are right. I bet you can also wear them in the summer.
