Looking for opinions on Ambre Narguile by Hermes

I just saw a review on Hermes Ambre Narguile and this one and it looks like a very tempting buy even at the high price tag. Any opinions? Wanted to know how projection and longevity are for you. Any less expensive frags that are similar? Thanks!

The scent itself is excellent and comforting, but it comes down to whether you actually want to smell like cinnamon apple pie. Kind of like Luca Turin's comments on Tam Dao. Where he stated that it's an excellent smell, but should be used as a room spray.

Its a nice scent, i really like it. Amber, honey, incense goodness

As usual, you get high quality from Hermes but steer well clear if you are not a fan of very sweet scents.

Ah ok. I will sample this one first. I already have a few super sweet ones I like. Thanks.

Yes, this.

I agree with this. For me, I do not want to smell like cinammon apple pie!

Go to Hermes' website and request a sample. They will send you a giant sample vial for free.

I really like the scent a tremendous amount but I fear that it may smell better as a room spray than on a person. It is a very heavy cloying scent that I can see having it lose its appeal rather quickly.

I find Ambre Narguile's longevity to be close to average and projection slightly above average. It's a very transparent scent, so while it projects, it comes across as pretty light (depending on application).

Scents that could be similar - I haven't personally tried anything that gives me the same apple pie accord that I get from Ambre Narguile.

There are plenty of sweet amber scents out there, and if you're looking for a warm, sweet golden amber, I'd check out MPG Ambre Precieux.

I have it and like it a lot. Longevity and projection are fine for me.

Its a excellent gourmand amber with a touch of tobacco, just go easy with this one or it can get too heavy.
I love this scent and my girlfriend told me she's getting this for me on Valentine's day!

It is a transparent gourmand. Not cloying but heavy enough to give a warm, comforting feeling in the winter time.

I'd compare it to a lighter version of tobacco vanille's dry down without the chocolate and heavy projection.

It's pretty linear but has a beautiful opening and basically just slowly dies down. Great longevity. If you can't handle sweetness just spray behind the ears or neck. Two sprays max with this one. Awesome scent!

A hit too sickeningly sweet fork but very high quality.

Can't think of anything similar.

Agreed - prefer others (Ambre Sultan)

Thank you all for the comments. I appreciate them. I ordered a sample of this to play it safe.

This is one of my next purchases for sure...they have these in 15ml travel sizes that you can get in a 4 pack for $150ish. Need to try this and vetiver tonka.

I've never smelled it, I'll have to get a sample, but Carlos Santana has a definite cinnamon apple pie vibe. It's not so much a true gourmand and is a bit more on the spicy side. Might be a poor man's version.
Seen a review last night and thought the same thing. I wanted to smell this one along with Ambre Sultan. I'm just wondering which is better.
It's pretty sweet, but nothing like Tobacco Vanille sweet.

I'm pretty allergic to sweet scents, but I can still wear this. There's something more warm than sweet about it, and I pick up more on armagnac than apple pie, but I don't eat much pie so that might just be me missing out

I bought the 4 x 15 ml travelsize-set just to test a few out. My favorites by far are Vetiver Tonka and Ambre Narguile. For me, both are FBW, but A.N got a fairly limited window of use compared to say Vetiver Tonka.

Still - get a sample and let it sit on you. I just can't stop smelling myself with A.N on myself, and my girlfriend really likes it as well - and she's not into sweet scents either.

Longevity is fairly normal, I'd say 6ish hours, with sillage kinda low / bodyclose on me.

So far the only amber I love. I think it would be very attractive on a man, and women can wear it as well. The incense is unusually soft, the amber is very well blended, the honey is not overly sweet, and the ginger is not bothersome. Overall, yes, it smells like fresh apple pie with cinnamon, very gourmand, yet not overly feminine or sweet at all (maybe sweet in contrast to many other typical male frags, but not in general). I can only reccommend it.

I find that on my skin it is ambery tobacco with a mellow honeyed incense base. After draining a sample vial - I purchased the 4/15 ml travel set. Some may find it a cold weather scent, but I find it works all year round.

Great quality fragrance with outstanding longevity and projection. However, you have to go very easy on the trigger as this can get very cloying very quickly!

For something along the same lines I would definitely suggest Boss Bottled. An amazing fragrance on its own merits but it also has the cinnamon apple pie feel to it. One of my favourites out there and considerably cheaper than Ambre Narguile!

Longevity, sillage, and overall smell are excellent, I just can't think of an appropriate time to wear this rather than Christmas or Thanksgiving...
Not a fan of this. Thick, heavy and too syrupy sweet for my taste. 'Foody' and not something I could tolerate wearing for an extended period of time.
I like it a lot. I agree with others though, it's definitely something that you don't want to blind buy. Sometimes I can't handle it myself...
IMO, the best sweet gourmand scent I have ever experienced. A master-class fragrance!

This is everything you would want in a gourmand. Sweet, spicy, great longevity and great projection. It is very pricey but travel size bottles are affordable and worth purchasing.

I recently visted the Hermes boutique in Chicago and did just that. Two 15mls of Ambre Narguile (one for my gf), One of Vetiver Tonka, a wonderful gourmand vetiver, one of the crisp light floral Iris Ukiyoé. Barneys used to be in this same building, now it's right across the street. Ambre Narguile is sooooo delicious!

i like gourmands but i can't get excited over amber narguile. barely touched my samples. there's a sharp note in there that reminds me of acetone
post #33 of 39
Ordered a sample of this and looks very promising, I heard that its been sold out at a few boutiques?

I know what you mean at first, but it dies quickly and doesn't bother me after that.

I saw a guy sell the 15 ml for 51 bucks, brand new with the little hermes pouch, if I like the scent a I might consider getting that.

Same here, though I'm not yet completely against it (yet).
It's an excellent gourmand that smells so much like apple pie it's unbelievable. However, to my nose it is far too sweet and would be hard to wear if I did own a bottle.
I went to the website to order a sample, but where exactly do I do that? Is it under the personal consultation tab and do I ask from there?
I recently wore it when I met a friend of mine. When he had just opened the door he said "you smell good - somehow like Christmas". Dunno if I should take this as a compliment.
I really really love adding some more spice to it by layering it with Poivre Samarcande. Usually I'm not a big fan of layering.
But 4 sprays (from the travel sprayer) Poivre Samarcande + ~ 1 spray Ambre Narguilé on top of it does it for me - really so gorgeous!
