Very happy with Bond No. 9

Thread Starter
I received my first Bond No. 9 today, which is I Love New York For All. I smelled it one time and decided to buy it online, so it was somewhat a blind buy. First let me say that I am a big fan of gourmands and ILNYFA does not disappoint. I love the smell. But what I really wanted to say was that Bond No. 9 obviously puts in a lot of work. The packaging was excellent and the box and bottle look great. Also, they included 3 samples with my purchase. So far, so good with Bond No. 9.

I Love NY For All is a pretty interesting gourmand. VERY buttery/milky, yet dry at the same time. It's pretty intense! The coffee and hazelnut notes are very well done, but this stuff is thick and a bit linear for me. Definitely worth a try for those that haven't experienced it though! I would imagine it would have a lot of fans around here.

Congrats on your purchase bro! Check out New Haarlem next - but that's about the only other Bond No. 9 I can recommend!

I never like this one, I'm sorry but this was making me gag, just my opinion. Something in there, a specific note, I didn't enjoy at all.

I have a 2 mL sample of New Haarlem. I love that one as well. I am starting to acquire too many gourmands!

Like some of the frags. Don't like the way the company acts in some areas.

Probably that synthetic butter-caramel flavoring note. Smells like the super artificial syrup at some coffee shops etc. That's the one that I don't mind at first, but over the course of the day, it annoys me. Wore it twice, now it's on ebay. haha.

glad everything worked out ... enjoy !!!

Agree about the packaging and bottle

here's a question, what's "New York" about a scent designed by a Frenchman and manufactured and formulated by a Swiss chemical company?

Hey, NYC is all about being a big melting pot & accepting you no matter where you're from! That's one of the things I love about the city & why it's one of my favorite places on earth!

This is about the only bond I've come across and couldn't stand, the rest have been top notch to my nose.
The female version of ILNY has crazy projection. My wife has a sample, and it doesn't just fill the room, it fills the house. And she only sprays twice.
ILNYFA is my guilty pleasure scent. It's the only other Bond besides Harrods Swarovski Ltd Edition that I will let near my skin. Not FBW though; my small decant will last for years. It's my ideal bedtime scent, very comforting, and the only gourmand I like. Not nearly as sweet as New Haarlem. I haven't worn it in public though. It doesn't fit my personality...

I'm a big fan of Bond's fragrances as well. I like to call Bond's style of niche perfumery "designer scents on steroids". To me, they often aren't as "experimental" as many niche houses, but instead they take more mass appeal type scents and give them the best ingredients (even if many are synthetic), wonderful and reliable longevity, and gorgeous presentation.
And I tend to like this approach, as I prefer more mainstream fragrances. (Many niche perfumers often come across as really unique and different, but not necessarily what I would call appealing).

Anyway, with that said, My personal favorites from Bond are Chez Bond, Coney Island, and Fire Island. (I also enjoy New Haarlem, Little Italy, and Bleecker St. somewhat as well). I've still not sampled them all, but I too, find Bond very appealing as a niche company.

The only Bond scent I've tried is Warhol Lexington Avenue.

I thought it smelled very nice, very warm and made of high quality materials, whatever they were. It reminded me of a very expensive and lush Christmas candle.

I'm on a Bond wearing kick this week. Yesterday it was Hamptons, today it's Riverside Drive. I received samples of I Love NY For Him and I Love New York For All. I'll try those tomorrow and Tuesday and then perhaps Montauk on Wednesday.
Bond gets a lot of flack from Creed lovers, but their scents are out of this world, at least the ones that I have sampled ,At thats over half of them.

I've come around to Bond No 9 of late. I did enjoy ILNYFA - yet it was just too linear and dense for me. No breath. Of their two dozen plus scents - perhaps a half dozen are full bottle worthy for me. Not a very high percentage relative to say Profumum, Parfumerie Generale or Parfum d'Empire.
dont even bother with ILNY For Him. Spray your wrist, but dont waste a full day wearing it, or youll regret it like I did! You'll smell like youre wearing Adidas Moves or something... yikes

My take as well on this one and I like many of Bonds frags.

Milky is a great way of describing it. It smells like Milk Toffee to me, almost to the dot.

Great fragrance.

I did enjoy a few Bonds but not this one, holy molly :P

I will say this - Bond knows how to make a fun bottle.

I suppose I'm a Creed lover, although I don't like at least a third of its colognes and detest its batch variations.

I'll give kudos to Bond for great bottles and, more importantly, for parfum concentrations that last all day and smell the same from batch to batch. My only concern with Bond is that there aren't many of its scents that I find unique and good enough to justify the price, but that's the case with lots of houses. So far New Haarlem is the only clear winner I've smelled, though with so many offerings my Bond sampling has really just begun. I do get confused by the names, though -- I've smelled Riverside Drive and West Side, for example, but I'll be damned if I can remember which is which right now.

If you looking for unique try these and let me know if you still feel the same.

Gramercy Park
Central Park
Chinatown
Harolds. Just to name a few.

Do any of you buy Bonds from an online discounter? If so, which one have you used?
I generally like the Bond lineup, but ILNYFA really turned me off. I gave my sample one full wearing before pitching it out, as there was some awful note in there (can't recall what it was, but I have come across it before while cooking) that turned my stomach.

I got my New Haarlem at fragrancenet. Most of the 3.4 oz come out to be a little over $140.

I feel the same way. When I am sampling these on the cards at Saks I really like many of them. It's finding the stand out that's hard. I could be happy with about 10 of them.
Maybe it is just me or my nose...I don't know. But most of the Bond scents I try on a card are just OK, most do not stand out for me. But, when I spray on myself I find that the smell changes and I like quite a few of them. I have three in my collection now.

Also, it seems pretty safe to buy Bond's on eBay as well. I've yet to here of anyone faking Bonds (the bottles would be extremely hard to fake, plus the demand isn't really there either). Also, since they are edp strength & do use some synthetics, they seem to hold up pretty well over time. So old batches aren't as big of a worry either.

I've bought a couple from eBay myself & had no problems. A lot of the eBay sales are from the online discounters, but from time to time, you'll find some personal sellers that have slightly used bottles that go pretty low (often in the $80-90 range for 50ml & $100-120 for the 100ml). The deals also vary depending on which scents you're hunting too. (I've bought 50ml bottles of Coney Island and Little Italy on eBay for around $80 each).

It appears they no longer carry Bond, a damn shame since IIRC they had the lowest prices on most of them.

I think this is a very astute analysis of Bond's market placement and fragrance design, Brian. We have opposite taste; I dislike more mainstream fragrances. Therefore, almost all of Bond's frags are unwearable to me. But I can definitely appreciate the quality and technique of their compositions, and agree completely that the line on the whole is like perfected designer frags on steroids. Harrods Oud is the one exception: a totally original, unique, non-mainstream composition.

May I ask you a question? You indicate you "dislike more mainstream fragrances," and therefore "almost all of Bond's frags are unwearable to me." Could you expand on this a bit? I am simple, and wear what smells good; sometimes that means a mainstream scent, sometimes not. But you seem to have a specific idea here, and I wanted to know what it is about mainstream fragrances you dislike. To keep it to the topic of the thread, it intrigues me that you find all Bonds unwearable but Harrods Oud, and was wondering why. I may not like many of the Bonds I've tried, but few are really unwearable. That implies they really turn my nose sour.

Interesting question. Nothing too compicated for me either; I also choose intuitively, as you have implied is your method. Mainstream frags usually just don't smell good to me -- cheap, or overly synthetic, or boring. There are rare exceptions of course. My tastes simply run counter to what most people like, it turns out. (E.g. Chez Bond is definitely my least favorite Bond.) I'm quirky and off the scale in a lot of other ways so it doesn't surprise me.

Oh I reserve terms like "dislike" "hate" or "vile" for something that "turns my nose sour." "Unwearable" for me covers a wider array of opinions. In this case, the Bond line is just very not my style, as much as I might respect many of the compositions. They're unrepresentative of my vibe, you might say.
