Just blind bought Muscs Koublai Khan...

I have bought another fragrance blindly.
Sold a couple of bottles earlier today, and used the 20% off
code at Parfum1 to order this bad boy for $100.

I have a bad habit of doing this. Especially when I've been
drinking, late at night, and when I have some spare PayPal
cash to spend.

Anyway...what should I expect from this bad boy?
I've read all the reviews, and it sounds great.
Great purchase. And very brave of you. If you've read the reviews, you know what to expect: the reference powerful musky-civety. But if you own Kouros, you should be set to go (mind you, it doesn't smell similar to Kouros. For one thing, it doesn't have the clean part of Kouros. It's just the musk)

I am told by someone who would know that the top is like the smell you get when you smoke crack. (I have no first hand experience of this smell, so I cannot confirm.) To me, it just smells like a wonderfully dirty musk. I love it.

Thanks for the feedback guys.
I usually roll my eyes when I see new threads like this.
I don't know, I guess it's just nice to hear some reassuring
feedback when you make a blind buy like this.
I really think I will enjoy this one, and if I don't, I'm sure
someone would be glad to take it off my hands at a discount.

My recent blind buys have been very good for the most part,
and I guess that is still a big part of the hobby for me:
the thrill of the blind buy.
Congrats on your purchase. Enjoy.
Brave one! I hope you enjoy it. Update us and let us know.
One of the best musks available. I hope you love it. It's one of my favourites.
A courageous purchase. Enjoy!
Great purchase. You should expect a terrific (close to the skin) animalic musk!
MKK is THE fragrance you should never blind buy.. Hope you enjoy it though ;-)
I think it was a brave blind buy. I wouldnt dare to do it for MKK due to the mixed reviews but I hope you enjoy it especially if you like musk!
Expect to smell like a pimp (in a good way mind you).

HAHA, I know how this works all to well. MKK is different, but it is a good scent. You will not want to wear it everyday, but when it is time to wear it you can not beat it. I am glad I have a bottle, but it only gets used abour once a month or so. Enjoy the MKK....it has a very cool name too.
I hope it works out for you.

You are brave

MKK puts the "dirty" in Dirty Harry!

As I said before... Wake up in the morning and don't brush your teeth . Lick the back of your hand and wait like 5 seconds... then sniff it... You got Muscs Koublai Khan... Seiously...
Dam you got balls :P
MKK is a great scent but not for everyone. I would recommend a sample first, but it's a brave blind buy.

Enjoy this musky scent.

What did you eat or lick last night?

Doesn't matter if you licked punani or nothing at all the night before... Morning breathe will result in the same outcome... A similar scent to MKK...
I blind bought two bottles of this years ago, one for me and one for my dad. I love it, but to honest I don't really wear as often as I should, as I'm only a 1/4 of way through it. My dad on the other hand went through his bottle in 6 months and demanded another one for Christmas. He loves it!

Where do you buy your punani? Walmart or The Home Depot?

I salute your courage, sir

Nope. Unless you ate a bouquet of flowers and licked a civet's rear the night before. MKK smells nothing at all like morning breath.
It's not too brave of a blind buy, MKK is similar to Opium and old school women's masterpiece fragrances which balance out florals with animalic.

Just wanted to give a quick update:

I received MKK about noon today, but...I got
my bottle of Divine L'homme Sage about 10 this morning as well,
and I decided to make it my SOTD.

I sprayed Muscs Koublai Khan on a piece of paper as soon as I got it,
the opening was what some might consider "challenging" but, being a fan
of Kouros, Ungaro II, and other animalic scents, I wasn't dismayed at all.
About 2 hours later, I checked the paper again, and MKK had developed
beautifully into the musky, honeyed rose scent that so many describe.
Really, really nice.

As I am typing now, I am wearing MKK as my scent before bed, and I
really like it. The only drawback I see so far, and it could be a big one
for me, is that it's very much a close to the skin scent. I am not getting
much projection at all, but I knew that going in, as many reviewers stated
that it was a close to the skin scent.

So, in summary, I think this was a good blind buy for me.
I don't think it's nearly as animalic or "challenging" as most people make
it out to be. I don't get any fecal notes at all. All I can detect is some
civet in the opening and heart, but then again, I don't have the most
refined nose.

As an aside, I got samples of MPG Eau des Iles, Fougere Royale, Cologne Pour le Soir
and Absolue Pour le Soir from Luckyscent. ALL OF THOSE, are full bottle worthy,
but I absolutely can't afford all of them.

And also, Divine L'homme Sage is a masterpiece. Wore it today and it is wonderful.

An intelligent fragrance and the most suave musk out there.

+1

People say Kiehl's Musk Oil is similar but Kiehl's smells like a skunk to me. MKK is a gorgeous floral musk.

What size bottle did you get for USD100? It would be a bargain if u got 100ml for $100. I can't get it for less then £130 in the UK for 100ml bottle.

I shall buy it next month.

I bought this too and wore it yesterday for the first time as a spray. (I had samples in a tiny vial i had sampled.) And I was hesitant to use much so I wore it lightly as I expected all sorts of bad things based on reviews...

Guess what? I found it not all that challenging at all! It was actually quite mild. It started out beautifully for ma as a sort of musky rose and then fell off rather quickly and became a light musky skin scent. Not nearly the projection and not nearly as challenging as reviews suggest. But, I put on only one spray (Black Aoud with extra concentration is a monster with one spray), so perhaps if I douse myself with a lot more this too will become a monster, but with a light application this thing is a beauty and nothing to be afraid of, reviewers be damned! This is a luscious scent if used judiciously. Dior's Leather Oud is much more of an animal. MKK is lovely.

Imho there is been a ri forumulation about MKK ,when it changed pack, from import to export box; more or less 3 years ago...
Now, always imho, this brave musk is less terrific, less dirty, less civet musky, than precedent version..anyway it remains a dirty brave civet musk! It dries quite clean, in his way ( not like white musk cleaness...)

Have a good scented trip with glorious MKK!

It was the 50ml size bottle. Really, that's probably just a decent deal, not too great.
A little bit off the regular price, but not much.

on me this is one of the most elegant scents i have ever approached (nothing skanky or scary) a masterwork that grows on you. one of the greatest scents in production today.

Funny I'm testing the wax sample on skin and my mind went.. 69 position
No homeless for me, just 69 and yeah, bottom 69 vibe, with style nonetheless lol Interesting..
Glad you enjoy it though, guess it's a lucky blind buy for you

What would you guys think of a woman wearing MKK?

Lovely on a woman. It generally projects clean and a little floral (depending on your skin).

The "dirty" aspects only present with the nose right on the skin which is probably the way it should be.
Whew...good cos I went mad and blind bought too. Never found a Lutens I didn't adore so I took a punt. I don't mind "dirty' or 'skanky'. I do mind 'pink', 'fruity' and 'feminine'.
it was okay imo, just cant see a situation to wear it so ill pass on a bottle

I have the same problem!

Seriously though, the great thing about being part of this community is that if it turns out you don't like it, there is almost assuredly someone willing to swap or buy it from you. I haven't personally tested MKK but it has quite a cult following on here, and, is on my long "to try" list.

Congratulations...and LOL to the 69 comment. Expect to fall in love with how you smell. :O
post #48 of 52
I'm anosmic to the sweet aspect of MKK, which I can only assume is real Ambrette seed. I had the opportunity to try pure Ambrette and it smelled identical to me with the bottle opened and closed. It's ruined a few frags for me, but I really, really wanted to love MKK.

If you get a bottle of Absolue Pour le Soir, I'll take a little split off of that to help with the cost.

I agree - I own this scent, too, and really have no reservations about wearing it pretty much anywhere. It's not fecal or crotchy, it's just musky and it's even mild and stays quite close to the skin (which is not what you would expect from the way it's described in many of the more hysterical reviews and comments here and elsewhere). Talking about MKK, I always feel like quoting Alfarom's review: "If you smell like this after sex, I'm Koublai Khan!"

Very, very ballsy. enjoy.
