i know there are other types like the aromatic so perhaps list both.

If you don't know what they smell like, just go to scentedmonkey.com or a site like that and buy 100 ml of Lomani for less than $10 total.

I think Jazz is a very good starting point. In the aromatic field, one that's usually considered is Azzaro pour homme. Paco Rabanne would be another one.

As you say, the original fougere was Fougere Royale, but it doesn't exist anymore. I never had the fortune to smell it. The thing currently found in fancy stores, according to many who have smelled both, doesn't smell like the original at all.

Penhaligon has something called English fern which smells sparer, so, who knows, perhaps it's closer in ingredients to the original fougere; but to me it smells a little sharp and uninteresting.

Fougere Royale in its current form is a wonderful representative of a fougere IMO.

Tsar is a good one for modern aromatic. Skin Bracer for "fresh." Cool Water for "fresh." Green Irish Tweed, also for "fresh." Zino for "ambery." Kouros for "musky."

so jazz isn't an aromatic? just straight up fougere?

ahh yes iv smelled those great aromatic fougeres!

good call on the penhaligons. haven't tried it but i have tried trufitt and hill grafton. nice but it wasn't what i decided to buy from them. maybe i should put in an order. i feel some loyalty to them coz they sent samples all the way here. same thing with malle and miller harris...

I guess Tsar, Prada Infusion de Vetiver or Eau de Campagne would fit the bill.
