Anyone know of a cologne that pairs well with the scent of clove cigarettes?

I tend to indulge in a Djarum whenever I'm in the mood to and so now I'd like to find a cologne that would subtly remind any particular woman sitting next to me in class or at a bar of cloves. In my mind, I'd want the main scent to be mellow, with hints of vanilla as you pull away from me. Do you guys know anything like that?
Your thoughts are much appreciated!

The "cloviest" fragrance I've worn so far is Dunhill Edition.
However, I've heard that Musc Ravegeur has a lot of clove/vanilla
in it as well.

Welcome, Eros!

When I think of cloves, I first think of Poivre by Caron. This has a very strong clove/carnation scent.

As for cloves and vanilla, you can also try Caron Bellodgia, which is a clove/carnation vanilla.

Poive is a parfum and very strong, yet can be worn by a man. The EDT version is called Coup de Fouet and also suitable for men.

Djarum Blacks?

I have smoked all kinds of kreteks, also the original (stronger) stuff from Indonesia. When I sampled Tom Ford's Tobacco Vanille the first thing that came to mind was kreteks.

I used to smoke the Blacks, but then somehow their flavor became nauseating to me. I switched to the Bali Hai flavor since then and it's been amazing, the effect is so much better too it seems.

Thanks so much for the quick replies everyone. I'll definitely be browsing my mall and the internet for these names!

EAU LENTE - Huge topnotes of clove with a very nice resinous base. Highly recommended.
Opium Pour Homme EdP.

I would also recommend Serge Lutens Vitriol d'Oiellet. This is also a clove and carnation scent.

Noir Epices (Editions de Parfum Frederic Malle) reminds me of Java.

+1 Eau Lente (Diptyque) this is a beautiful piece of work.

Idole (Lubin) might be worth a shot.

Hi Eros,
when Patchouli 24 by Le Labo dries down, can offer mysterious softness of vanilla and cloves, based on intriguing smoke ..
Also I remember kretek by Ava Lux, I think this can be perfect!

No vanilla, but Lowe 7 is a very clove (the spice) intensive scent. It also has a supporting baked apple note that is just barely sweet and actually supports the scent nicely, mixing with cedar to also support the clove. I have not smelled a clove cigarette in at least 20 years, so I am not sure if I am on the right track here or not.

In any case, 7 was not to my taste (due to clove spice not being a favorite note of mine), but to a clove lover I think it is definitely worth a sniff.

The cloviest of all is Floris Malmaison. Sadly discontinued. If you want strong cloves, you should search for carnation scents such as Etro Dianthus and CdG Carnation. In many of the scents recommended so far I don't detect cloves (maybe I'm spoiled/ruined by my carnation addiction).

gs02 smells nothing like clove cigarettes, but it would complement the smell perfectly. Sometimes I smoke while wearing it for the sole purpose of enjoying the mingling vapors.

Puredistance M is redolent of clove cigarettes, but I know that's not what you're asking.

.. posts makes me think to "Gabriela, clove and cinnamon", Jorge Amado and Garofano by Villoresi, an other strong scent clove, with his creamy after peppery late ..thta's all, a nice free association!

Clove is present too in Cacharel pour Homme, Esprit du Tigre by Heeley, both particular with their initial freshness, but no vanilla..

Sultan Man Black

I too enjoy partaking in clove cigarettes smoking when in the Borneo geographic location.

Just the other day i was telling alfarom how Poivre by Caron smelled like Id slipped into a vat of clove oil in zanzibar that was freshly processed.

Also Esprit du Tigre by Heeley but that has plenty of camphor.

Caravelle Epices will augment the whole clove thing. Ignoring the vanilla restriction, I think 1270 would complement the spice of the kreteks.

I used to smoke cloves years ago, particularly Djarum Cherry and Black. I second the suggestions of Coup de Fouet and Jaipur Homme and would also lean toward Ghost Man or John Varvatos if you're a younger guy. Something like these with a controlled, sweet vanilla could work wonders with dry clove smoke, plus Ghost Man has a very light note in that direction already. Also, have you tried Halston Catalyst for Men? It's basically clove, artemisia, and sandalwood and smells very warm.

+1 Dunhill Edition.

For a light take, I second Diptyque, Eau Lente as mentioned by sparkle and reasonable, but their Eau as well.

I would try something that smells of cherries, although what that would be I do not know. Perhaps Bogart Pour Homme.

Jacomo de Jacomo may be another inexpensive option.

Good call on Malmaison, Bonsai!

You can't detect any cloves in Poivre?! Wow!

Most carnation scents use eugenol and isoeugenol for the carnation/clove accord--both on the baddie list for IFRA. That is most likely why Malmaison is discontinued and Caron's Coup de Fouet is on the chopping block.

(It is reputed that write Oscar Wilde wore Malmaison.)

This set of reviews from the archives all point to cloves as a main note of Poivre.

L'Artisan's Oeillet Sauvage (sadly discontinued)

+1 CDG Carnation (Lighter version: Tabac Original EDC)
It seems that the suggestions made here mostly name scents that would combine WITH the cloviness (clove, vanilla) instead of playing off of it. I have found that the notes of Xeryus Rouge make an intoxicating combination and recommend it wholeheartedly for this purpose.

Smells like cloves:
TF Tobacco Vanille
Malle Musc Ravageur

Compliments clove cigs:
Penhaligon's Sartorial
YSL Rive Gauche PH

I used to smoke clove cigarettes, when I smoked (many years ago).

Try L' Eau bu Diptyque and/or Comme des Garcons EdP (original) by Comme des Garcons.
Byredo Seven Veils is basically carnation (cloves) and vanilla. I tested yesterday Grossmith Phul-Nana, it has a nice clovey accord.
Oeillet Sauvage is indeed a great carnation and vanilla scent. I'm still trying to score bottle...

Roger & Gallet Oeillet Bleu (Blue Carnation) is a great one as well. Also discontinued.

I didn't mean that I couldn't detect cloves in any of the previously mentioned scents, just not in most of them. Poivre qualifies, indeed.

Coup de Fouet is beautiful. I have recently discovered it just to find out that it's not sold anymore. Grrrrr...

Didn't know about the Malmaison - Oscar Wilde association, thank you.

Kouros, sorta.
Kretek by Ava Luxe - truly mimics the smell of clove cigarettes, and has good projection and longevity ...
I absolutely adore the smell of cloves, and I was on a clove cigarette fragrance hunt for a while. I'd highly suggest Jacomo de Jacomo --You can get it dirt cheap on Ebay. Also, This clove cigarette Artisan oil from Etsy is AWESOME. http://www.etsy.com/listing/90486702...atural-perfume

Maybe Caron's L'Anarchiste?

Very good recommendations!

Also look out for carnations scents, as the properties of this accord possesses an olfactory profile similar to clove (e.g. Garofano by Santa Maria Novella).

Frapin 1697 a sweet vanilla spice clove cigarette that has not been lit yet . Its a little too boozy at first but the dry down is gorgeous. I get a Sherlock Homes vibe from it .....tons of character. Its classy and sexy.

Whooooooooooooaaaaaaaaa, old thread. Let me add Tabac Blonde!

Maybe also Tabac Original (1959) by Maurer&Wirtz, simply because it's a more or less "leathery clove"-based fragrance, apart from the more obvious scented similarity to unburnt, unsmoked tobacco
