New Fragrance: YSL Opium Vapeurs de Parfum

From fragrantica.com:

Yves Saint Laurent launches a new version of the Opium perfume in April 2012. The fragrance is called Opium Vapeurs de Parfum or "fragrant fumes," representing a balance of sensual and luminous, warm oriental notes and the freshness of the Mediterranean. Opium becomes gentle, caressing and light, while retanining its distinctive oriental and spicy character.

The composition embodies the contrast of white flowers and resins. It starts with freshness of mandarin and pink pepper. Orange blossom and Sambac jasmine in the heart lead to the base of incense, nutmeg, amber, vanilla and light woods.

Top notes: mandarin, pink pepper
Heart: jasmine, orange blossom
Base: amber, woody notes, nutmeg, incense

Available as 50, 75 and 125 ml Eau de Toilette Legere.

I am not expecting much, after the Belle d'Opium release and Opium reformulation fiascos......

Ya, I mean, why all the Opium flankers? Why not just give this one another name entirely? Reminds me of all the redos in movies/tv shows. Lacks innovation. I do like the notes though and ya, I think the pink bottle is pretty, so if I see this around I will probably pick it up to sniff. I am interested to see how the nutmeg is for a basenote in this.

I'm always interested in the YSL line, since I seem to be in sync with what they do. Will be looking for this, and hopeful that it isn't a complete waste. Thanks for the info.

As usual , it's about money and making lots of it.

Anyhow, it looks very interesting - when I saw the name Vapeurs de Parfum - I thought it was going to be a replacement for the parfum extrait.
The new Opium EDP still really packs a punch and I quite like it - amazingly. Yes, it's not the same as the older version but I feel it's still quite good.

Thanks for the report. This is good to know. There's hope for humanity yet.

Oh for heaven's sake....another one. Just when I thought I had finally finished with my Opium collection. Maybe this new one is YSL's way of saying "sorry...our bad" for Belle d'Opium

It's heavier on the carnation which is a note I like a lot. So that may account for my liking it. Also , if you don't *analyse* the new Opium too much - yes, it still smells like Opium should.

There's a term in corporate parlance, "carve and spin". Used in situations where a company standing deep in doo doo restructures and salvages by manipulating subsidiaries. Opium has been carved and is spinning.

I thought some of the 'old' Opium flankers were enjoyable. Wish I could remember the one I liked best. Something de Chine. Gonna look it up
