Ambroxan Crystals dilution question.

Hello!
I have a 4ml bottle of ambroxan crystals but unfortunately no scale. How much ethanol should I add in order to get a 10% mix? Thank you!

This cannot be done exactly without a scale, due to the range of packing densities of a powder in a given volume. For this reason, bakers weigh their ingredients, because volume measurements of flour and other dry ingredients are not reliable or reproducible.

Good scales are not expensive these days. I found this milligram scale for around $24, and it works extremely well. It can be calibrated if needed, and measurements are perfectly repeatable:

Accord is quite right, and the answer is really to get a scale.

However if you are not making anything for sale (and thats not likely with only 4ml of ambroxan to play with) then you could use these numbers, which are based on the assumption your 4ml bottle is one of those from PA and it is full and fairly tightly packed.

With those assumptions I think youll have about 1.5g of ambroxan. So you need 13.5g of ethanol to make 15g of a 10% solution, which is:

13.5 / 0.8 = 16.875 so roughly 17ml

However, I will just re-state - Accord was right and this isnt going to be an accurate way of doing it.
