I blind bought Giorgio for Men by Beverly Hills 1.7 oz today for $12.99....Initial Review

Alright, I was at lunch today and decided to stop by Marshall to see what fragrance they have in.... I saw a small bottle of Giorgio for Men for $12.99... I wanted to buy this one for the past few days... so I decided to blind buy it... I checked Perfumania already to see if i can sample it, but they did not carry it... so I just went ahead and bought it... here's my initial review on Giorgio for Men....

To me Giorgio for Men smells like Aramis and Kouros hooked up and mated and had a baby... this baby is then pampered with carnation and powder.... this one is a real 80's fragrance... the opening is WOW!!!! super strong... just kind of burnt my nose hair... i think it's from the oakmoss??? the scent is your typical 80's powerhouse fragrance... strong, bold and loud... if you don't like fragrance like Aramis, Kouros, Polo green, Horizon etc... then you will not like this fragrance... i only sprayed one spray on my hand and it radiated like crazy all day at work... so i went and washed it off 2 times with soap and still it is still on my skin... I will do a full wear of Giorgio for Men soon, but for today it was too loud to wear at work... When you smell this fragrance it will place you back in time... feels like it's the 80's all over again... I was only a kid in the 80's, so I don't know what it was like, but it sure smells like what my uncle when he was wearing fragrance back in the days of Miami Vice, McGuyver, Modanna, and Larry Bird...

The price is about right.

The vintage one soon loses that overwhelming quality, unlike the new one, which just goes on and on. Skin chemistry may play a factor, so don't worry if someone doesn't agree with your assessment.

I don't get that overwhelming quality with either of them, vintage or re-issue (although they are both indeed quite strong). Could certainly be skin chemistry playing a role though...

Been thinking about blind buying this, but I already have Aramis. I hear the tobacco note is pretty good in it, is it anything like Havana's?

No tobacco note in this one.

This one is a bitter fragrance... And very dry... With some floral... I still need a full wear to grade this one...

Agree with Bigsly, no tobacco in Giorgio to my nose, and it is nothing like Havana (which I also love)... sorry.

It's more like Givenchy's Gentleman.

Hmm, interesting... Maybe it really *is* a skin chemistry thing here. I get neither of those with Giorgio. The "dry" comment in particular puzzles me as I get a lot of patchouli and moss in it with a hint of honey mixed in for good measure. I certainly am not saying Giorgio is a "sweet" fragrance, but I if were classifying it, I would say it falls a hair more on that side of the fence than dry (let alone "very dry")... Very interesting experience indeed. I look forward to reading your final results!

He may mean sharp rather than bitter.

awesome scent either way ...

I get a sharp shrill acidly very dated men's scent from Giorgio Beverly Hills a scent I would mind being totally revamped

I just looked at the box for my new version and it says Extraordinary.

Does it say that on the bottom of your re-release bottle? I don't have the box for my new version so I can't check my own for comparison. On the bottle itself my re-release (bought last year) does not have that on the bottom of the bottle, but my vintage bottle from the early 90s does. Just wondering if there are even two versions of the newer EA release...? Oh yeah, I should mention both my bottles are the 118ml bottles, for reference.

The new one has a label that says EA Fragrances but the word Extraordinary isn't there, just on the box.

Got it. So there was no change. It is just the box that says "Extraordinary" on the new, while the bottom of the bottle itself says it on the old. Thanks for checking.

Oh lol, I just noticed I read this entire thread wrong. I was thinking of RED, that's the one I was considering blind buying.

Georgio on the other hand, wow. I bought this stuff and returned it. Don't get me wrong, it smells great from a distance. But up close, it was a nightmare, as it smelled like burning plastic. Huge projection on this one too, but I think the fragrance is a bit unbalanced.
