Layering Black Aoud and Dark Aoud

Hi everyone,

I know... you probably think I'm nuts, or are just scratching your head... WHY? Right? LOL.

I've been sampling the Montale line and although I like almost every Aoud that I've sampled, there always seems to be a little something missing for me. My favorites so far are Dark Aoud (that has a gorgeous, crypt-like Sandalwood note) and Black Aoud (that has a powerful, gothic, dirty Dark Rose note).. So....

This morning, on a whim, I decided to (carefully) layer them. The results are absolutely spectacular. The combination is precisely what I have been looking for these past few months. The creaminess and dryness of the sandalwood with the deep, dark gorgeous rose and the strong backbone of aoud. Fabulous! They blend perfectly. I was and am totally surprised. Cannot wait for the dry down.

If the dry down is as amazing as the opening, then am happy to keep layering these, but does anyone know of of a fragrance that has something close to this combination of notes: sandalwood, dark rose, and aoud? I would love to get my hands on it if such a thing exists. Will Czech and Speake No. 88 get me close?

Thanks in advance,
Ben

Although I don't layer, I can understand your enthusiasm with this combo as I think both fragrances by themselves are great.

Fragrantica's search engine returns more than 40 hits for "sandalwood, rose, agarwood (Aoud)". Consider Dark Rose, if you like Czech and Speake's work. It's marketed to women, but that only matters if you let it.

This sounds like a good combination to me! I have never layered fragrances. I love Black Aoud but it is mostly about rose for me. Dark Aoud is so dry. I bet these are good together so I will try this.

How did you layer and which portions please?

One spray of black aoud first, and then a spray of dark aoud directly over it. I sprayed it right in the center of my chest. It is a marvelous combination.

I layered Dark Aoud and Anais Anais and it came out really good, no joke. Kind of lifted it out of the darkness a bit.

I layer anything to test - and I only own two Montales, black and dark Oud.
And this mix is awesome on my skin too. Lasts 12+ hours, great projection too.
Very nice cosy powerful mix - 9.5/10

I feel the dark aoud gives the gorgeous dry oud scent while the black aoud increases the sillage with the medicinal oud and beautiful rose mix. Of course the longevity is great. What im getting is a sweet oud with a light creamy rose during the drydown.

Def worth a try!!
