I only have 3 actual vetivers:

Although, I do like the vetiver note in Gucci Nobile as well.

I've been quite irritated myself with the horrendously slow response times tonight.

It's not too sweet. It's quite luxurious. But it stands apart from the vetiver--like in a different space altogether. I don't mind it when notes don't blend; it can actually be quite exciting. I'm just not sure I see the point yet in Turtle Vetiver Front. More wearings definitely in order!

(For reference, it would not be unlike layering a straightforward high quality greener vetiver like Etro or Sel with Santal 33).

I think Sycomore is fantastic. But I think it's also almost entirely vetiveryl acetate. I adore this ingredient, but I would be really bummed not to have a great, natural, green vetiver to turn to as well. And heck, probably a drier rooty vetiver as well. You must have at least three

Really need to try this sycomore stuff I hear about all the time.

Brian, I need too smell Sycomore again but I vaguely remember it being based on (whether natural or synthetic) Indian Ocean vetiver. Indian Ocean vetiver tends to be more intense, dank and earthier than Haitian vetiver which is grassier, sharper and more astringent in nature. Two obvious Haitian vetiver based perfumes are Vetiver Extraordinaire & Dior's Vetiver.
1) Mona di Orio Vetyver
2) Encre Noir
3) Sycomore
4) Vet. Extraordinare
5) French Lover
I tend not to like vetiver as a stand alone note. Or rather, I like the smell, but find it ultimately a bit unidimensional and boring to wear the truly vetiver prominent scents out there (and just for reference, I don't think Vetiver Extraordinaire would qualify as such as a scent).

My faves right now:

Chopard Noble Vetiver
Lubin Bluff
Amouage Memoir Man
Harrods Oud
Couer de Vetiver Sacre

Noble Vetiver is pretty tame and soft. It kind of calls to mind Bvlgari Man but is greener and has a more noticeable vetiver note. Has bits of the Dreamer in it, too, with a clary sage/tobacco combo shared between both scents. It's pretty subtle but extremely extremely wearable. The cardamom in it is fairly noticeable, too, and I'd say for a long time it's more prominent than the vetiver itself.
I've only tried three vetiver frags so far. Here's how I would rank them:

1. Original Vetiver
2. Grey Vetiver
3. Sycomore
WOW! All these contributions, and nobody has mentioned the vetivers I rate the highest!

After many years of exploration, I hereby declare -- from 'on high' -- the 5 best vetivers are:

Mazzolari Vetiver

Givenchy Vetyver

Carven Vetiver

Tauer Vetiver Dance

Hermessence Vetiver Tonka

You are most welcome.

I just received Dior Vetiver and it's jumped to the top of my vetiver list. I really
love it. So out of what I own here's my order...

Dior vetiver - love the very faint citrus and how the coffee rounds out the sharpness of the vetiver. I can't stop sniffing myself
Original vetiver - very nice clean vetiver
Hermes vetiver tonka - wish I liked this better but it's kind of just average to me, it's nice but doesn't stand out to me, also maybe I'm just slightly anosmic to it but it's very very light on my skin.

Well...those are the only vetivers I have so far, next is sycomore.
The vetivers I own and wear:
Guerlain Vetiver
Encre Noir
Hermessence Vetiver Tonka
Mugler Cologne

I'd love to purchase Frederic Malle Vetiver Extraordinaire
and would love to sample Sycomore.
