I have one too! But from what some are saying, the most recent batch would be the best. Might want to head over and try them out
post #64 of 118
someone should rank all the DH and DHI formulations in order of iris preference all the way to cocoa preference or the other way around

I guess it's safe to say any version of Dior Homme is a must own. I'm just about to pull the trigger.

Don't worry about reformulations. Just buy it and be happy!

Hey Stew, just do it they are all great!
Stew don't pull the trigger on Dior Homme ...its not something you shoot at, its something you love
post #69 of 118
If you don't mind smelling like lipstick or make-up for the first hour or so of the development then I'd say DH is a pretty safe blind buy. Some absolutely hate the lipstick/make-up notes some absolutely love it. That dark chocolate & leather dry drown is ultimate.

Vintage vs current? Well you can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear and you certainly can't polish a turd. All versions stink like cheap, nasty lavatory freshener. Horrible, synthetic rubbish. I detest it.

(For a bit of fun)
Before getting suckered with basenotes hype and wasting your hard earned on DHI, can you answer yes to any of these questions? If so, DHI may just be for you (but i doubt it)

Do you own a Pink poodle?
Do you style your hair in a mullet because you think it's cool?
Do you own any albums by Liberace?
Do you believe McDonalds is fine cuisine?
Go to Benidorm for your hols because you appreciate Spanish culture?
In private, do you like to wear a gimp mask, latex and rubber and enjoy the feeling of humiliation?

(just for a bit of fun)
How do you know DHI is not for you ?

You ask too many silly, unimportant , time-wasting questions.....
Because i was one of those suckers who blind bought it. I gave it away to a relative who i don't particularly like.

Seriously, how many threads does there have to be asking the same questions over and over and over again regarding this toxic crap? It appears there's a concerted, relentless effort to keep it on the BN front page. Almost like viral marketing.

Stereotyping at it's best.

Viral trolling on threads that don't concern you.

The opening is ok, it's the dry down that makes it worth the wait. Kinda like Bvlgari black. I'm not a huge fan of black's rubber note, but the dry down is great. DH Is better. But similar note progression. Ok top, great drydown

Ok, I have actually taken the trouble to look at my bottle. It has the black tube and the thing that you press to squirt on the top is black, BUT, the collar just underneath the squirty button is silver. Does this mean I have the first reformulation, not the second, and therefore not the "disaster", despite buying it January 2012?
i think you have the first formulation

You think this is bad? You don't even want to get mixed up with the Mugler Pure Shot reformulations.

I have a sample of the current Dior Homme edt and don't find it to be that close vintage Dior Homme Intense.... not sure why some here do to be honest. I find the current Dior Homme edt to be more or less like the vintage Dior Homme edt ( which I own).

Well, we all have different noses. I'm one of those that said the current DH smells closer to vintage DHI than the original DH, and I stand by that belief. The old DH had way more Iris to me, and the newer one has way more cocoa in the drydown. I enjoy both, however. I probably prefer the older DH by a shade, but I'm pretty satsified with the reformulation. Dior didn't destroy this scent.

Fair enough. I didn't mean to pick on you specifically, but I am glad you replied. I will sample my vial for as long as it lasts, but at the end of the day, the current edt is still a good fragrance. I still have enought of the vintage to last me. Although to be honest, I am no so stoked on it as I was before. I think it just gets kinda powdery for me. While I don't mind powdery scents, this one doesn't make me want to wear it for more than 3 hours. My mood and the weather make a difference as well.

Like you, I do prefer the older Dior Homme edt by a shade. There seems to be something different, but they are close enough ( so all the panic to get all the vintage bottles should settle down a bit, hopefully).

Great post and 100% agree. I just picked up a July 2011 bottle of DH. Iris is toned down, Cocoa is amped up. Longevity is a solid 7-9 hours and modest sillage. They did very well with the reformulations of both DH and DHI..
I also said same thing that new DH is closer to vintage DHI ...but i still dont understand the point of reformulation because older DH didnt violate any IFRA rule..anyone who wanted cocoa could always go for DHI....whats the point in DHI now when both DH and DHI have nothing but cocoa...what made original DH beautiful was its iris note...of course i would pay more for vintage DHI than vintage DH but that has to do more with market price and economic value...on scent alone, vintage DH is the best ever of all...soon i believe people will crave vintage DH more than anything else, even vintage DHI
post #89 of 118
i just tested today the last reformulation of DH. i tested it yesterday as well. Both times i got awful longevity out of it (~2 hours) and sillage is terrible. On the other hand i got Kokorico sprayed and its still going strong after 5.5 hours (too bad i dont like it though).

Maybe its a problem with the DH tester from Sephora, or the last reformulation killed it so bad? With vintage DH i get 7-8 hrs of longevity easily and with above average sillage.
Well I just ordered a bottle of DH from fragrance net. It was 20% off w/ my coupon, $5 off because it was unboxed, and I got free shipping, but I don't know if it is a reformulation or what.

Black tube/silver cap?

Blackmilk asked my question.
I thought I finally had it all clear, but someone higher up the thread talked about the 1st reformulation of DH having a SILVER sprayer. Is he getting the sprayer confused with the collar?
As I said, my bottle, bought Jan 2012, has a black stem and black sprayer but a silver collar (the bit with Dior engraved on it), it is the very large bottle (150mls if this makes any difference). can anyone tell me categorically that this is the not the 2nd reformulation?

That is most likely the "true Demachy reformulation". I just bought a bottle that's a July 2011 batch. Black Stem/Silver collar, it's fantastic stuff..

I believe the reason for the reformulation was addressed in previous threads. To reiterate, my understanding is that the motivation for the reformulation didn't have anything to do with IFRA rules. The point was that Dior technically didn't own the original formulas, which were created by third parties for Dior. Accordingly, it developed a new set of formulas in house, which were supposed to be very close to the original formulas (or perhaps tweaked just a little). The point of the reformulation was to bring ownership of all extant Dior formulas in house to avoid any sort of royalty or related payments to anyone else. At least that's how it was explained in previous threads. If anyone has the actual scoop on this, a clarifying post would be welcomed.

Silver vs Black Collar (Jan. 2011 batch) DHI:

I get a cool/cold vibe in the opening through the middle stage of the silver collar DHI. I wore my silver collar DHI yesterday; sprayed around 6 am, intense but beautiful iris note lasted around 6 hours, then the cocoa dry down kicks in. It becomes close to the skin after around 10 hours. But, it becomes alive when my body heats up, like when I worked out last night at 9 pm (15 hours later). As for the black collar DHI -- I don't get any cool or "intense" vibe from it, and I don't find it smooth / well blended compared to the silver collar version.

I received a bottle of DHI from StrawberryNet today. According to cosmetic check, it's an April 2011 bottle. It smells amazing. The iris fades away quickly to beautiful cocoa splendor. Me likey.

Wait...seriously? I was doing a lot of research on this whole vintage/reformulated and black/silver collars davinci code shyte. I read some people say April 2011 and earlier was vintage regardless of the collar. If that's the case, then I haz vintage DHI? I will say that my DHI goes from lipstick to cocoa about as fast as a Bugatti Veyron snaps the speedometer.

Only the silver collar Dior Homme Intense is vintage.

AHHHH! Ive ordered twice from strawberrynet and it has been the May batch for me! Still love it nonetheless
post #106 of 118
Even If im not biggest fan of DHI, I do have to admit that I like more original formulation because the lipstick note does stay around screaming and pulling people's hair for so long and the cocoa is really smooth and relaxing (I do prefer the bitter cocoa of Guerlain Homme Intense though). Both versions of DHI have ridiculous longevity on my skin, 18 hours and 2 showers later the "thing" is still there !

Well , based on what many here describe the development of their silver collars compared to reformulated bottles I would say my black/black 2010 bottle is vintage and apparently these were manufactured till April 2011 and so I believe anything May 2011 and after is the official reformulated version with the "pear and musk ambrette" notes, which is just marketing BS IMO since a lot of people still detect the vanilla/cocoa but it is just not as potent and full blown as the vintage.

Sounds as if this could be for me. The old DHI, I once tested in a store, was too vanillaish for my taste. I much preferred the ordinary DH. I'll try the new DHI though.

I should do so as well. I have the stuff from autumn 2010 (first reformulation). Which formulation is the one with most iris?

original DHI has more iris...but if you want iris, go for original DH and not DHI..

Regardless of if it's original or reformulated or whatever, it smells pretty amazing. Hardly any iris and lots of cocoa awesomeness.

I've seen quite a few DHI's on eBay that are being touted as "Original Formulation" b/c they were made before September 2011 that are going for $250 or so. Some of them are even newer than my April 2011 bottle I got from StrawberryNet for $97 shipped. If anybody is interested in DHI, I'd go for the StrawberryNet bottles since they are the same thing being sold on eBay for absurd amounts of money.

actually DH vintage is still easier to find than vintage DHI..just ask the sellers if the DH has silver stem and silver collar because DH has been reformulated pretty recently..you may find a seller on basenotes..actually Scentemental is selling a vintage DH for $38 1.7 oz size..contact him immediately
post #116 of 118
Hm, shipping from US to germany will make it pretty much more expensive.
I've been to many stores here, they all have recent stuff.
I contacted an online shop which i suspected that it could have older juice, but they couldn't really help me. I guess, I'm just going for a used bottle on ebay...
I just ordered a 3.4 from Fragrancenet for $65 after the basenotes discount!
Hi, I've just bought a used (nearly full) 50 ml DH vintage (well, on the photo, which is not a marketing photo, but seems to be self-made) it got a silver stem. Prices here in germany are relatively reasonable. I paid 35 € + shipping.
I'm so curious. Now I got DH 1st reformulation, DH vintage (hopefully) and DH cologne. A Dior Homme for each occasion. More than I can ever use up
Well, maybe I should go for the intense as well. When I first tried it (vintage) I liked the original (vintage) better, more equilibrated and sophisticated. In the intense version I got too much vanilla. Maybe the new one is woth trying though.
This stuff is strong and would be a perfect clubbing scent. However in the club I visit there is always at least someone wearing DHI (or DH?) - and TDH by the way - so I don't think it will become my clubbing scent.
