I picked other for Dior Leather Oud and Incense Oud by Kilian. Montale's Black Aoud is nice, but more for the bright clear rose over inky tar.

I've been wanting to try out more of the By Kilian oud range, Mona di Orio's Oud, and some concentrated oud oils, so I'm sure there's more great stuff out there somewhere.

Dior leather oud
Oud 27

neither on the list!

UPS just dropped off the Bond No 9 Harrods Oud and i have to say, New York Oud is so much better. Why is there so much hype around this? Youtube?... Because its so unavailable?...

Because a lot of people like it better. Harrods is unique while New York follows the oud, saffron, rose pattern that is common. I don't watch Youtube reviews. Lucky you like New York Oud better as it can be found cheaper.

Maybe I should give it more than 3 seconds before I decide how much I like it.....
Epic Man for me. MdO Oud too is a great composition but I found the oud note to be somewhat subtle and not quite what I wanted for an oud based scent.
hmm, looks like the Ford and Dior are getting the most love. Gotta get my nose on that Dior Leather Oud

out of curiosity guys, any thoughts on Byredo's Accord Oud?

Fahrenheit Absolute: one of the best in my opinion.

Don't you know it best D?

Creed Royal Oud getting the most votes? It's gotta be because of Creed, and not because of Oud :-)

As much as I don't think much of Tom Ford line, his Oud Wood is reasonably done and might be the closest to actual Oud from the ones listed.

One day I'm going to buy the Oriscent sample pack.

For now I'd nominate any of Agaraura's mukhallats. I previously have only bought samples of his oils, but 2 of his newest ones were compelling enough to buy, Oud Chypre and Layali.
My favorite of the ones I have tried is Dark Oud though I also like Tom Ford Oud Wood. For me, M7 stands apart from Ouds and everything else. It is devastatingly its own thing.

Roja Dove OUD? value for money at the price tag 1000 USD for 100 ml.
How about its longivity?
ya know... I'd smelled the Ford one countless times on paper and wasn't too impressed but actually gave it a proper wearing today and darn it if it isn't actually quite a solid frag! who knew? (ok, well many of you, but it's new to me)
I forget Al Oudh - very herbal, complex.

I cannot believe the poll results. Creed oud shows up in maybe 2-3 post out of all, and still comes in second place? Fishy, if you ask me.

My vote goes to Memo Shams, an underrated gem.

I find the longevity is quite poor - 4 hours tops.
As an aside - take care to avoid getting this in contact with your clothing as it stains terribly. I speak from bitter experience.

I agree. Very suspicious. It's those Creed reps again! And the bottle in question doesnt even smell of oud!
Another; Mona di Orio's Oud. Just stunning.
Al Oudh L Artisan Parfumeur for me. Great work of Bertrand Duchaufour!
I love Mona di Orio's Oud and I think it's a masterpiece but if it has to be a scent only for men I would pick Amouage Epic man and it deserves it's crown. There are other perfect oil based scents like AgarAura's mukhalats, but I think Epic man fits better in the idea of a men scent and would be suitable for more occasions. It has all aspects I would like to find in a man fragrance and it's a refined mixture between the East and the West.

Finally, I bought Oudh Al-Khaloud from Amouage...
And this is totally ruined all my previous experience.
This is awesome, and all names mentioned in this thread have nothing about real oud.
imo Mona's Oud is in the top 3
Anything from Oricent/Ensar oud

Many Amouage Attar's

I get a little more than 5 hours out of HSLE on my skin. I blind bought it, but it's a little dirty for my nose - very similar to Dior IMO. Bond No. 9 NY Oud is very different - it does not have a dirty vibe - probably the best Oud I have smelled - but the Oud purists would probably scoff. By favorites would be:

Bond No. 9 NY Oud
The Different Company - Oud Shamash
Heeley Agarwoud
Brückner Aoud 1

I am also suprised to hear Creed getting such love -- I have never tried that one yet... I am considering a blind buy, but oud is such a love/hate thing for me, I am not sure if this has that "dirty/barnyard/etc" vibe, or if it is smoother.

I would not blind buy Royal Oud if I were you. I've sampled it and it's just too woodsy for me. IMO, it's okay, but definitely not one of my favorite Creeds.

Thanks! I think may hold off and order a sample first then...

My favorites are Montale's Black Aoud and Dior's Leather Oud.
Leather Oud.
It is really a matter of personal preference isn't it? I think all these are about equally interesting and prefer one over the other at different times of the year.

MFK Oud, Harrod's Ltd. Edition Oud (careful to not get Harrods for Men), Dior Leather Oud, Killian Pure Oud, M7 (original), M7 new one is ok, NY Oud, Agarwoud, Black Oud, Al Oud. All these are very nice but have varying degrees of florals or leather and you must decide what style you prefer.

As far as oud oils and mukhallats are concerned I don't think they are really in the same category of stuff at all. I don't personally think they are worth the extra money for what you get - that said I own a several dozen varieties from Oriscent, Agar Aura and a few other houses and I enjoy them but I don't think most Basenoters would consider them as winners in "Best Oud" fragrance for men category. Oils just work differently than perfumes.

Best oud in my opinion is Oud 27 by Le Labo.
Best synthetic agarwood fragrance you mean.
I'm confused... are we voting for the best fragrance that actually smells like oud or the fragrance that shamelessly uses the word oud in the name without actually smelling anything like oud? Creed Royal Oud smells nice, but If you think that is the best use of oud out there you haven't smelled real oud.
the above poster is right. there is a big difference between a great fragrance that has oud as one of its notes and an oud-based fragrance judged solely by the quality of the oud.
Yeap. Dior Leather Oud shoud definitely be on the list. It is one of very few oud scents that I truly enjoy.
Dior Leather Oud.
And, relative to Oud 27, I cannot stand by idly when a recommednation is being made. This scent is atrocious, see my impressions ↓↓↓:

Oud 27 by Le Labo - One is initially overwhelmed by a animalic tango. A foul and sour oud partnered with an earthy, floral saffron give life to a miasmic melange of stale urine, foetid smoke, raw leather and slimy sweetness. For a time, this vomitous blend rankles, and is spewn to the rehabilitating middle. Atlas cedar, with its balsamic and evergreen woodiness, coupled with a refreshing incense suffocate the putrid piss and stenchy fumes, as well as rehabilitate the saffron with creamy and honey aspects and the oud with a bright and fresh aura. The awaiting base with its complementary guaiacwood imparts its pleasing smokiness and candied smoothness, aided by a mildly peppery and herbaceous patchouli. A prosaic drydown ensues. This edgy composition lacks projection and longevity.

Dior leather oud and Montale Oud Cuir d'Arabie
post #106 of 140
I still say my fav scent with oud (agarwood) is the Habit Rouge eau de parfum.
Where are my true Oudh lovers? Just about everything I have seen listed contains chemical indol scent, not true oudh.
While I have some of these listed such as Creed Royal Oud M7 and Tom Ford Oud Wood. They are but a pale shadow of true Oudh.

Almost all from the once lively and vibrant oud social group are now either gone from Basenotes or became lurkers. That's why the majority of oud related threads here have very little with oud and simply rhyme off the same list of entirely synthetic pseudo-ouds instead. The real stuff, at least the wild sourced oud, is either extinct or so extravagantly expensive it may as well be. Sadly, the wild oud extinction and the rules of economics won't make the real stuff any more accessible so the synthetis which for the most part smell absolutely nothing like the real stuff is all the majority of frag lovers have left.
I'd say something like Oud Cuir d'Arabie by Montale or something along the lines of Xerjoff Zafar. BTW Memoir man doesn't have oud in it (does it?).

Sad but true!!! If you own oudh, hold on to it as it will be difficult if not impossible to find in the future. I guard my "stash"!!!!

oud al khaloud is very nice, but actually overpriced imo.
glad you like it.

for oud based fragrances leather oud and l'artisan's al oudh make the top for me.

I agree. Actually I find Aggar Aura or Ensar oud much better then Amouage's two oudh offerings. That is not to say I dislike Amouage attar's because I love them all and own 16 different versions of them. Some contain the oudh note some do not.
I despise Ajmal Oudh offerings as they are linear/flat. Maybe they need another 4-20 years to age. IDK.

My favorites are Amber Oud By Killian and Jubilation XXV by Amouage.
My 'other' vote stands for Oud 27, although this seems to be a minority opinion. I also like Al Oudh.
Dior Leather Oud for me.

Mona's Oud - but it has no gender..
Dior Leather Oud if u want it to be "male"

also, leather oud is bad-ass, but too damn barnyard after 2 hours - mix with ISM...perfection!

I also voted for the Armani, but that is from a very limited oud experience. This thread will help me explore.
